EVE Online: Captain's Quarters Now Offers Custom Video Playlists

MikeBMikeB Community ManagerAdministrator RarePosts: 6,555

CCP Games just released a new dev blog outlining how players can add their own custom videos to the giant flatscreen available in their Captain's Quarters.

image

First, players have to convert their desired videos into the .BIK file format. Once that's done it's as simple as dropping the videos into the game cache's CQScreenVideos folder (create if it doesn't exist), and voila! You're done.

This feature was actually discovered by the intrepid EVE Online community a few weeks back, and it looks like the new dev blog was put together in order to give players official instructions on how to do this since the cat's out of the bag anyways and they don't want people accidentally messing up their games.

What do you plan on watching in your Captain's Quarters? Share your thoughts in the comments below. Oh, and keep it clean now!

So let me get this straight. I can watch my avatar, watching a video? Why the F Would I want to do that and pay for that priviledge? What a joke. Incarna has been a joke from day one. A technical beta that adds nothing to the game.

    Interesting...

As for the replies so far, would this require any extra developer time at all ? I mean this was probably there when they released the captains quarters, it just seems people discovered they could do this and CCP is telling them how..

The replies also show the idea of RP and immersion is lost on many today. I love the mod for FO:NV that allows you to do this.

Be far more interesting if they put some kind of ingame related stuff like Amarr Certified News network, maybe some commercials based on ingame stuff.

Make a video of you watching your avatar watching you, watching your avatar, watching you watch your avatar.

Maybe this is how the EVE gate first spawned?

    [Mod Edit]

Customization is the key to loving your gaming experience even further.  And a functionality such as this is such a miniscule amount of code and effort on the developers side that its almost non existant.

Incarna is a really impressive thing, if you can't see that... then you need to just get away from EVE all together. You don't get it.

Great idea. It's really not that different from playing your own music in the EVE Jukebox.

I think this is call scrapping the barrel for ideas.

It's disappointing as Eve is a good game but they are just muddying the water now.

Seems like a good idea if your stuck in station during war

Have to love all the critical comments, sad they can't see farther then the tip of their nose.  There is a lot more to eve than the pew pew pew and if that is all you want from the game fine, but you are missing the other 90% of it.

You could record a battle sequence and put it on your screen.

What they need to do is, make the stations more interactive, add common areas the player charater can go into IE bars, hotels stuff like that. What is the use of a charater when you cant talk to people using it,

Or you could just minimize and watch a dvd or browse the next .... or does that sound like crazy talk?
