The first FF was made in 1988 and since then, things have changed. eg. The gamecube FF crystal chronichles
sucks and now they are going over the top with their games.

If you don't like the newer games you can just play the old ones, or none at all. You don't need to complain just 'cause you don't like them. Simply not playing them would do just fine. Personally I love FF, especially XI! I like the later ones, even if they can be kind of over the top, so is real life. If you really don't like the new ones, then !good news!, they aren't making any more FF games, so rest easy.

I started playing since FF7. This is my opinion on how it's gone:
FF7 good
FF8 sucks
FF9 good
FF10 sucks
FFXI good
FF CC undecided since I havent played
FFXII is probably going to suck, I have seen screenshots and it looks horrible.
Good god,it's the Star Trek movie rule inverted--the odd numbers are good and the even numbers suck!

hmm well peoples opinions do vary.
ff vii - very good, this was the first one i ever played, and it quickly got me addicted to ff.
ff viii - also good, imo, i really liked it, the graphics were better, than ff vii, and i liked the plot.
ff ix - didnt like, so much that i gave the game away.
ff x - again, better graphics, and a good plot, i liked this one, i wont say how many times it took me to
achieve the jecht shot, but, i had a lot of fun with this one.
ff x-2 - weird, not horribly bad, but, definitely not as good..
ff xi - disappointing, i got it for the pc (bundle included chains of promethia and rise of zilart) was
lacking in graphical complexity, and sound, though the background music wasnt too bad.
gameplay is not too bad, the gameworld itself is lacking in graphical complexity, more colour
would have been better, though i suspect that this is because the ps2 can't really handle
graphics as well as a pc.
everyones opinion of games will differ to a greater or lesser degree, and its impossible for game designers to please everyone, it may sound as though im slating ffxi but the truth is, despite it being not as great as i had hoped, its still not a bad game. a graphical overhaul wouldnt go amiss though
Here's MY VIEW, which differs from all these idiotic "Cloud ownz0rs" fans. Many FF7 fans seem to have not played the "classics".
Final Fantasy I - Unbalanced, frickin' hard (orignal version, not these new PSOne and GBA versions), too hard to enjoy the game, felt like a MMORPG without other players due to the leveling grind.
Final Fnatasy 2-3 - Never played! =P
Final Fantasy 4 - First game I played that raped my mind, story was very good, characters developed, however compared to the later games this one has a pretty bad combat/job system.
Final Fantasy 5 - Because FF1 is not known very well for it's job system, Final Fantasy 5 often comes in mind. It's job system was very good along with the game itself of course.
Final Fantasy 6 - BEST FINAL FANTASY EVERY MADE!!!!! Personally, I didn't like the Esper system cause I never had to summon Espers but the story was so mind boggling. Kefka makes every other villian look like a bunch of little insects, he was turly insane and had such a defining personality.
Final Fantasy 7 - I hated it, horrible, I only played it because I wanted to see what the hype was about (plus a character named Vincent was in it and that's my real name). The materia system allowed for abusive game play (Counter system). The fact that Cloud screws around with both Aerith and Tifa really messed the atmosphere for me. Most importantly, I couldn't see why everyone liked Sephiroth which made me hate the game more!
Final Fantasy 8 - The Final Fantasy I liked second best. I never understood why most people hate it, I guess they don't like good stories and prefer cool character with swords the size of their body that have hair used as an impaling weapon and some tall guy with a long skinny katana. Squall + Rinoa = heart breaking =P
Final Fantasy 9 - I liked this one as well, not sure why, it's been too long. I just know the song Melodies of Life sucked because the singer was horrible.
Final Fantasy 10 and X-2 - 10 was very good, but the sphere grid was easily abused, I got 255 on all stats (except ACC beacuse LUK was better) and killed the last boss in one hit (or was it two). X-2 wasn't that good, but hey, 3 hot girls in a game that can you spend hours staring at...why not? =P
Final Fantasy 11 - I don't believe this should be classified as a Final Fantasy seeing how it's a MMORPG, but it sure as hell made me lose my life!
I love FF so really if you don't like it you can always not say something and play something else....its always an idea.
hmm i don't know the numbers and i don't completely remeber which number went with which game so i will start with 7.
Other FFs........Have played i like not being forced to a class just love it
FF7......great charecters.... hated game
FF8......nice kind of going back with not forces upon one class for a character but other then that it was ok
FF9.......loved the classic 4 person style fight and to sum it all up in a name Vivi
FF10.....very good made back in 2001 and still looks better then some new games nice addiction to FF to me
FF10x2.....Different approach in battle system so gave credit but the rental disc was messed up so
FF11......stopped playing becuase of needing to pay and long lvling but loved it for everything else
FF12.......Can't wait
FF4 - great, memorable characters and world, the story got a little convoluted.
FF5 - great, loved the story, world, and characters and the class system is just cute
FF6 - it was "ok," a little convoluted in some areas and characters were very shallow, still a good play.
FF7 - great, best FF game to date, loved the characters and world, couldnt get enough of it, wish they used this world as the basis for the FF mmorpg.
FF8 - ok, didnt draw me in as much as seven, but was up there in game quality.
FF9 - horrible, seemed to be a attempt to make a old school FF game gone terribly wrong
FF10 - horrible, characters were annoying and weak, and so was the story
FF 11 - Horrible, felt like Everquest 1 and ½ Anime style. Nothing final fantasy about the game.
FF 12 - Looking Good, Im a fan of the Kingdom Hearts games, and this looks like its incorporating some of the action elements of KH combined with deeper levels of combat.
I think going straight for mass commercial appeal with games is going to be a staple of big name games like Final Fantasy. This isnt going to appeal most of the time to the average gamer, but game companies react to cash, not old school rpg player ideology. I think there is a perfect middle of the road between the commercial and the classic, and I think FF7 did the best job of that of any in the series. The attitude of just dont play any games because you suxxor is really arrogant though, and I think you need try and get a better attitude.
P.S.
To darkchu,
The reason people didnt like FF8 generally is because the story was on the level of a chick flick or 90210 with guns and swords. Good game, but played way to much to Japanese soap fans.
I don't feel like mentioning FF games before 7.... they were good though (the first one was hard)
FF7 - Long story but I loved it. My first final fantasy
FF Tacticts: I LOVED IT, I LOVED IT, I LOVED IT. IT'S LIKE CHESS TO THE 5TH LEVEL. My sis losted the disk again though. The storyline =Execlent, Gameplay = Exelent, blah blah blah = execlent. People who like to use their head will love a game like it. BTW, I didn't beat it yet
FF8 - only played the demo but it was pretty cool
FF9 - never played but....ehhh I didn't like how it looked, but I really don't judge much by graphics. If my friend has it I will borrow it
FF10 - Great, it wen't good as the first FF for PS2. I though it was too easy though (or is it that I had so much fun fighting the the last boss just became easy to me). But I did had some FF7 features in mind.
FF10-2: . . . . it's cool, but they really watered down some features you would expect to be in there. Things like Riding Chocobo, blitzball, etc. I didn't beat it yet cuz i borrowed it.
FF 11: never played it....then need a trial version

The way I see it is, If you played through the entire game, It wasn't a bad game. It obviously kept your attention long enough to finish it. With that said, I don't think there was a truely "bad" FF just that some where better than others.
FFVII- I dont think it was the gameplay that made this game great, but the Storyline and the Character Development. Throughout the game u become more and more attached to the characters and and their personalities. The storyline itself was very in-depth and it really draws you in. The graphics were not all great, but they r remaking it for PS3 anyway. So anyone who didnt like it for that reason can just wait till the PS3 release. All-in-All, one of the Best FF games.
FFVIII- Considered by most to be the worst FF game. I really dont know why, because in my opinion the game had a great story, good characters you could relate to, and more realistic graphics. I think the thing that threw most ppl off was the fact that it was a more modern-based type fantasy. I think that it was a great game simply for the tradgic love story.
FFIX- Also considered one of the lower-end FF games. FFIX didnt have as great a storyline as most of the other FF games, but I thought it was still a great game. FFIX was more comedy based and that coinsides with the cartoonish graphics. I guess you could say the game was more entertaining that in-depth. I consider FFIX the final fantasy for light-moderate rpg gamers. The one thing this game did get right on the dot tho, was Tetra Master. In my opinion, this side game is second only to blitzball.
FFX- The first FF game with voice overs!!!!!! It felt nice not to have to read all the way through the game for once. FFX was kinda like a mix between all the previously metioned FF games. It had the great storyline and character development of VII, The tradgic love story of VIII (to get the tears rolling), and had its comedy moments (mostly brought on by Waka). All-in-All, good game with a great, unexpected twist. (to some)
FFX2- Though it wasn't a bad game, it should have been called "Sidequest: The Game." The whole game was like a coalition of sidequest. Other than that, it retained the good story of the previous game and...three girls running around saving the world...You gotta love it.
FFXI- I think it is a good MMORPG. The classes still need a little balancing, they need to make it ezier to solo (cause it takes to long to find parties....decent ones that is), and some PvP action would be nice. But the game is still in its early stages, so there is still hope. Nevertheless its a great game.
FFXII- Last but not least, is the upcomming FFXII game. So far the graphics in the game are amazing! They definitly outshine the graphics of the previous games. The storyline seems to be pretty deep, The new battle system will be greatly welcomed, and it is based off of the FFTactics games(which where both good), so there is no doubt in my mind that this will be a great game.
I've played FF 1-5 and they were all good games for their time (one was hard tho). The only one I havent played is FFVI. I hear alot of ppl saying that it was better than VII, so untill I play it I have no opinion on it. Cant wait to play it tho!
Well thats my personal opinion, feel free to deny everything I just said.
A sign of the Wave comes.
Riding the Wave is: Skeith, the Shadow of Death,
to drown all that stands.
Mirage of Deceit, Innis,
Betray all with the flawed image,
and did aid the Wave.
And by the Power of Magus,
a drop from the Wave doth reach the heavens,
and creates a new Wave.
