Dawn of the Rogues (Patch 1.5)

Master10KMaster10K Member Posts: 3,065

I find it funny how after every patch, a new Class is OP. I still remember back when Pyromancers were considered OP, because they could easily two-shot players and more recently Warriors, with their insane burst damage and 50% healing debuff that procs after a crit (not that hard to achieve). Yet Trion still hasn't learnt their lesson and in fact they provide the Rogue with an even better healing debuff. Rift PvP'er Taugrim, explains it well.

From patches 1.1 - 1.5, it's pretty that Rift PvP is all about FOTM builds and for a long as Rogues remain OP I'll be enjoying playing mine. But I would like to know what are your thoughts on Rift's PvP and how do you feel about these skill-less procs in your PvP (within MMOs in-general)?

Nothing really new, although TW is pretty obvious about it- just look at the history of so-called OP classes:

Warriors were decried as OP since beta, then on release it was rogues that were OP if you recall all the crying regarding saboteurs as well as bards being too powerful due to heals affecting too many targets and flamespear warriors were nerfed,

    • 1.1 iirc was the rise of the Pyromancer

    • 1.2 slight nerf with GoS for Pyros but still PvP gods and clerics steadily become more and more important

    • 1.3 Warrior gods rose from the dead with parachamp builds among others, healing clerics still gods

    • 1.4 Warriors quickly nerfed but still OP only with riftblade combos, ohai casty DPS clerics- time to shine along with your healing brothers

    • 1.5 Rogue time!

It's been rotating OP buffing and classbreaking nerfs since the game was in beta as far as PvP goes.

Why don't Trion make all Classes OP and it will be balanced. Though what they did with Rogues is excellent, they made it so classes was easier to mix and so players don't use 1-2 build for PvP only and BTW Rift is not a PvP game. The most balanced PvP mmorpg will be Guild Wars 2 and it will be much more fun.

Pretty sure it's you who hasn't learnt their lesson. Trion has said from the start that they don't intend for pvp to be balanced.

LFD tools are great for cramming people into content, but quality > quantity.
I am, usually on the sandbox .. more "hardcore" side of things, but I also do just want to have fun. So lighten up already :)

I have played a rogue main since launch, highest I ever got an alt was my warrior to 29.  I would agree that a few things may be considered "OP" when looked at by themselves, or in 1v1 situations.  In group PvP however, there are always counters to any class mechanics.

For those that say "omg, rogues OP, need nerf, DAWN OF ROGUES!!!"  Yeah... please, be quiet.  There are still plenty of very good players from all other 3 callings that still do extremely well.  Only reason people are getting all up in arms about rogues is cause every FoTM re-roller pulled out his crap geared Rogue in expectations that they are absolute faceroll (and they are always the super low gear MM you see standing in the back with 4k hp).

You know what I say?  Fine.  Those MM (even the well geared ones) are super squishy and still get wrecked.  Only rogue builds that are giving people issues are NB and SIN builds.... NB ones specifically, just cause they are all elemental and tend to sub RS for gap closers (anyone starting to remember 1.4 warrior builds?  yeaaah.....).

Rogue calling mechanics still feel "off".  Not in damage, but rather the base mechanics of many of the abilities and souls.

Coming months maybe, Trion always lets the OP role or calling have some fun before they wack it with the bat.

I think RIFT pvp is pretty lackluster.

It all looks good on paper (many soul combos, etc) but usually doesn't end up that way. It's really not like GW1 where if someone was ripping your build down, you could go make a counter build by swapping in skills to counter. In RIFT, there are only going to be 2 or so builds for rogue, two or so builds for warrior, two or so builds for cleric, etc that anyone is ever going to be playing.

Because of that it's always going to be FOTM builds and the pvp will suffer. Looking at what GW2 is doing as far as PvP is exactly what I mean; there will be instant counterbuilds to fight FOTM nerfs/buffs.

Think of RIFT like that Butterfly effect. If you change just ONE skill on one class, that affects how that skill effects any other build using that class in terms of effectiveness. If they nerf Chloro, any build using a Chloro soul is affected, not just Chloro. When they make two or more of these changes, and then buff another class you have exponential problems.

If this was a three faction game, that wouldn't matter as much but it's just two. I have a feeling that when games like Planetside2, ArcheAge, TSW, Prime: BFD and Firefall come out, RIFT is going to experience a huge shockwave more than when SWTOR comes out. PvPers are not getting what they need in this game and it may be because they hired the guy from Warhammer Online who screwed up their pvp balance with FOTM in the same way.
