I haven't played that many but in some of the Asian games group grinding seems fairly common.
One I play called Shaiya has grouping for XP grind. People on trade or area chat call out LFP. It sort of surprised me first time I saw it. I haven't seen open world pickup groups since WoW vanilla.
Ken Fisher - Semi retired old fart Network Administrator, now working in Network Security. I don't Forum PVP. If you feel I've attacked you, it was probably by accident. When I don't understand, I ask. Such is not intended as criticism.
Um FFXI! How can nobody suggest that? This game is group only period. You can't do squat solo past lvl 8-10. Group only content from 10-99!
Was about to, along with Lineage II (level 30+ is tarting to give nice party are's and 60+ you can really have fun with parties in the Tower of Insulence). And lets not forget about the LARGE host of F2P Korean grinders out there...
i never played FFXI or Lineage 2 but they sure been through a lot which makes me wonder if it's a good time to start playing them now.
same deal with Vanguard -- i really like the game but it feels under-populated and it kinda ruins the whole grouping experience. i'd actually go back to Anarchy Online if it didn't feel so empty
really wish there was a more current game with this kind of gameplay.. one that isn't free2play and has enough people in it.
FFXI is still very populated but mostly at end game. You can still find party's at the lower lvls but maybe not quite as often as you could back in the day. Once you get to the 20+ range you can find party's pretty quick though and the xp has been really increased.
One week of playing a few hours a night you could hit lvl 30 with no problem.
few years ago i used to play anarchy online and i really miss grouping with people just to kill stuff for XP.
can anyone recommend any *current* games that have something like that?
FFXIV, lvl 25+
{hides from the thrown tomatoes}
i was actually thinking about FFXIV since it does appear to be heavily group-oriented. but so far i'm only hearing bad things about it.
From everything I hear now is the game is getting good and you really don't see anymore negativity. Also hear they have a patch coming early next week that players are excited about (havn't checked to see what it contains).
You have FFXI but not really sure what to think about this game anymore I played it for around 6 years but left due to the direction of the game.
Yeah FFXI is very much an "Old School" MMORPG. If you grew up playing EQ then you would probably understand FFXI but if not, FFXIV would be the modern group focused game.
I've got a few lvl 20's+ on FFXIV, I do believe the game is getting better but I will be abandoning ship come SWTOR and GW2. FFXIV is sorta boring. Not much depth to the game except grinding and a few weird quests’.
FFXIV has come a long way since Sept of '10 but the MMO community has come accustomed to a new culture. After reading the developer letters I'm afraid XIV is still going a different way than most other MMO's.

current MMOs designed for more than 1 player? Sorry, can't think of any.

We might see this in GW2 I think, I hope.

no a bad idea; i'll try to get a buddy invite. i also see there's a big new patch coming soon or something, sounds nice.
Old everquest. It was meant to be played in groups. But nowadays people usually just solo with a merc to lvl 50-70 and start grouping from there.
Maybe Vanguard. Although there's not enough players in vanguard to constantly group.
All other mmos are usually single player quest grinding.
