Someone PLEASE make a game where you have to pvp is when you have to protect something, not to show off. Have a pve game where there are none elitists being disturbed by your gear because you didn't put as much time in heroics as them. Make it realistically; your age: your character appearance. No use of item shop or pet mall or something similiar. This is not fair and people have to chunk out money every now and then for the latest and greatest things. I'm okay that we pay per month for the developers to survive. Please make crafting classes. I do not want to waste my time leveling up to max as pve/pvp char only to later turn into a crafter with limited crafting.
Make what ever the freaking lore you want just make everyone be able to encounter everything about it. Why oh why only the elites are able to have this privilege?
Down with the pre-released sandbox games and put more effort into doing it great and massive. It can not be labeled massive in mmorpg if it's buggy and little to do.
Make crafters neutral. Why steal my time and stuff? No one can kill a crafter because they are good for them.
Equal content for crafting as in pve and pvp. You CAN do it. There is pve, pvp and crafting. But only pve and pvp have large content in games.
I want to dress however I want. Put invisible items like orbs or something that enhances your stats. It's ridiciolous that I have adidas pants and be smarter.
I want to build houses, large collaborated fortress building, lots and lots of building. I want to create the content. Lore can be however it can be, just not put in some buildings that apparently npcs have built before you even started playing the game.
I have so much more to say but I'll leave it at this to not make a long post.

Your game will be GUILD WARS 2 bud !
I could play a game where skills are show off and not gear but then again I am tired of being in a made up world. I want the world to live and breath. Not to be put there by 4 or 5 Bobbies when thousands of builder bobs can actually make the world seem real. Then if I get tired of building and crafting, I can pick another content such as pve or pvp.

Though, I expect every nay-sayer and GW2 hater on this site will jump in and say otherwise (or worse), I agree 1000% with Zzad. If you haven't already, OP, research this title and I bet you'll like what you see. As is stands, I don't know of any current MMO's that don't cater to some elite crowd or another (That's not to say there isn't one, I just don't know about it). There's a lot of speculation as to when GW2 will release, as the game is still in cloed alpha testing and there has been no announcement of a closed/open beta.
*Edit- I forgot to say, but GW2 probably WON'T have any kind of house or fortress building (just a personal home instance, and guild halls, sometime after release). You may want to have a look at ArcheAge (also not yet released), though I think there may be a lot of open-world pvp.
Character progression does not have to involve combat at all , just FYI.
Just because most new mmorpg's are 99% about combat does not mean that this consitute mmorpg.
Actually theorethically it would be possible to create mmorpg without combat at all , wthout problem.
I like combat and it is important element but it mmorpg does not equate combat.
Character progression should be made by many diffrent ways and for many diffrent reasons, not ust having highest gear score and be elitist prick because of it.
If you are looking for a world that lives & breathes...the i am right! Guild Wars 2 will be your game!
No traditional questing...instead they have built up a dinamic world with dinamic chain events. The game world changes depending on ppl choices & event´s outcomes.
I trully recommend you to get informed about that game.
Looks exactly what you are looking for
Public Questing
GW2 looks amazing, it sure seems to bring a sign of relief for many Hardcore gamers.
You don't want elitist? So you need a dumbed down game that requires no thought process to succeed?
Some of your ideas seem to conflict:
What would the point of PVE or Crafting be if there isn't better stuff? If there is better stuff, there's "elitism".
You want PVP to be about "protecting something" then you suggest Crafters are neutral, taking away one of the most important game elements to protect.
Definitely agree we could stand to see better crafting-centric games (although I don't really care for PVP in such games; I think it's great that ATITD didn't have PVP, or combat, at all.)
As for "PVPing 24/7", I've never played a game where PVP was both rare and good. Rare usually means world PVP, which is poor entertainment for a variety of reasons.
As for Crafting Classes, it seems like your main complaint is requiring high-level combat skills to craft, but Crafting Classes doesn't solve that problem and introduces other problems (now you have to log onto an alt to craft.) If you want to solve the Combat Level problem, you (a) make crafting a player-skill-based activity and (b) leave it as a separate progression track (as it is in every game out there) so you have your Combat Level and your Crafting Level/Skill.
Vanity Gear already address your "dress how I want" concern in a lot of games, but there's something innately compelling about getting an item from the boss you just killed and having it be an equippable, visible part of your character which improves your capabilities.

Are elitist games now and the future? Yes. Most every new MMO that comes out is catering to the younger players that are playing games such as WoW, RuneScape, etc.
Will we ever see a good make-your-own-live-your-own mmo from now to ten years in the future? In ten years? I hope so. There are games in development that I would love to see on the market. The only problem is low budgets and sub-par development teams.
Is crafting underrated content? IMO, crafting content is always underrated, the only games with great crafting systems were made 10-20 years ago, so are probably shut down by now.
Do you believe you get anything out of pvping 24/7? I personally don't but some people play MMOs solely for PvP.
Is it fair that people are segregated by the pve hierarchy content we are seeing now? No.
What would you pay for a game that is equal to all kinds of people if it would take a lot of money to make? Thats hard to say because I would have to take a lot of other things into account to come up with a price.
Lastly, what is your age and gender? 20, Male.
Guild Wars 2 won't be his game,I love Guild wars 2 and it will do amazing stuff for the mmo market but Guilds Wars 2 is not what he is looking for He is looking for a Ryzom or SWG even both mix to together.Guild Wars 2 is reinvention of themepark ideas.
He is look for game where animals migrate,Where you can build your own house,Where players push the politics of the game.Guild Wars 2 will be a great game but not what he looking for Guild wars 2 is the answer to alot of thing but not this.If The TS can get over how the game looks then Ryzom could interesting for him to try for a little.Ryzom has the best living world in any mmo today.
I love your rant! I have had similar frustrations. It's interesting that many players don't understand the gripe with "Addidas Pants of Elightenment." Or the thrity percent of the game content designed for endgame users. I am subscribed to both EQ2 and LotRO and may never see portions of their latest expansions. My girlfriend and her daughter will never experience what little of it that I have.
It's a shame that the outdated and silly leveling-mechanic trivializes and isolates huge portions of a game world and its population. It works well for the small, regular Pen-and-Paper group, but it's almost worthless for a persistent, massive world. The successful endgamers don't see this, but then the game's designed for them
Are elitist games now and the future? Seems so, the rest of us are some non-revenue-generating niche.
Will we ever see a good make-your-own-live-your-own mmo from now to ten years in the future? May, would hope so, but it would be so small scale not to be noticed by most, which might be good for it.
Is crafting underrated content? Seems so, though I have heard of some small niche games in which crafting is all.
Do you believe you get anything out of pvping 24/7? I do not. Killing is too easy and too meaningless in a digital world. Games that center on "killing is fun" cater to a crowd that is morally challenged.
Is it fair that people are segregated by the pve hierarchy content we are seeing now? Fair? There will always be hierarchies, no matter how perfect a system one tries to design. There will always be people who legally or illegally exploit whatever system is developed. I think it's sad that the popular designs of MMOs take this to such a ridiculous extreme. I think it's sad that greed and power reinforced in out entertainment.
What would you pay for a game that is equal to all kinds of people if it would take a lot of money to make? As much as I am paying now: 30-50 bucks a month.
Lastly, what is your age and gender? 43 and male.
Thanks again for the rant and the poll.

GW2 is not everyone's game and based on what the OP mentioned he's looking for something more sandboxy than GW2.
Has GW2 become this website's Dr Pepper? "GW2 , solves all your problems"
