Rift: Family Values

In the latest edition of Chronicles of One Telaran, MMORPG.com's Paul Crilley continues the story of Caedryn the Dwarf as he journeys through Telara. In Family Values, Caedryn is zapped into the future, a future that's not very nice. Read more!

Welcome back to the Chronicles of One Telaran, the third in my series of leveling/lore/exploratory/whatever-else-I-think-of articles based on Trion Worlds MMORPG, RIFT. Last week I sped through the remaining quests in the starting area and was subsequently sucked through a portal into the main game world. It seems some twenty years have passed since I (yes, I, Caedryn the dwarf), destroyed the body of Aedraxis, Avatar of Regulos, banishing him back through the Ward and becoming the hero of the hour. But instead of allowing Caedryn to enjoy his new-found fame, I find my-self skipping into the future where things are not at all groovy.

I'll point out that the current Defiants can't make thier own ascended. All thier ascended are from the future were they did figure it out right before Regulos conquers everything.

And those Defiant ascended. Well the path to making them was rather... think morally gray in a nazi doctor way and you'll get close to what they had to do to make thier own ascended.

Good work.  I've personally always felt the story as to why the Guardians and Defiant are at war a bit "thin" premise wise.  Given the Rift-situation they could have easily made 3 or more factions, to be honest the one thing that would be most interesting is to let players start to make characters who fight on the side of Regulos and such :p

    Exactly Zoe,

That was my hope as well when Rift was announced: that we could be a part of each of the rift-factions (earth, fire, nature, etc).  Especially since they announced they would be taking over towns.  Sure, they take over towns during a rift-event, but only as a forward battle-station, and if you decide not to act on it you will 'lose' the event after a period of time and everything will be peachy again.  That really disappointed me.
