EverQuest II: Station Exchange First Step

DanaDana Member Posts: 2,415

The first steps into the realm of company endorsed sale of game items for real world money was taken today as SOE announced that registration is now open for their upcoming Station Exchange program.

Station Exchange Registration Begins!

Beginning Saturday July 2 nd 2005, players can submit a request for their characters to be transferred to an Exchange-enabled server. When Station Exchange officially launches, flagged characters will be transferred to an Exchange-enabled server. Station Exchange is currently scheduled to officially launch mid-July.

Players can elect to move their characters at no additional cost from now until 14 days after the official launch of Station Exchange. After that period, players who wish to transfer their characters to an Exchange-enabled server must use the standard Character Transfer Service and pay any applicable fees. Once Station Exchange launches, players may create new characters on the Station Exchange server at no additional subscription cost.

At the time of the official launch, there will be two Station Exchange servers, The Bazaar and Shadowhaven. Characters on Guk, Unrest, Kithicor, Butcherblock, Lucan Dlere, Everfrost, Oggok, Lavastorm, Permafrost, Oasis, Innothule, and Steamfont have the option to move to The Bazaar. Characters from Najena, Blackburrow, Antonia Bayle, Nektulos, Highkeep, Toxxulia, Neriak, Grobb, Befallen, Crushbone, Mistmoore and Faydark can elect to move to Shadowhaven.

Starting today, any character that types the "/movelog add" command will be added to the list of characters to be moved to the Exchange-enabled servers.

Guild leaders who choose to take advantage of this offer will be able to move their guild name, level, and status to the new server. If you would like to move your guild to the new server or wish to be moved along with your guild, please be aware of the following details:

  • If a guild member elects to switch servers but the guild leader is not moving the guild, the character will be unguilded following the transfer since the guild does not exist on the new server.
  • If the guild leader decides to move the guild but an individual member decides not to go, the member will not be in a guild following the guild's move since the guild now exists on a different server.
  • We recommend that the guild leader be the first to register to move the guild by using the "/movelog add" command. Once the members have been informed that the guild is moving, all members who wish to move with their guild should issue the "/movelog add" command.
  • In order for guild membership and status to carry over to the new server, members need to be moved at the same time their guild does. If a guild leader chooses to move a guild, guild members who fail to issue the "/movelog add" command before their guild is transferred to the new server will be deguilded. If that guild member elects to move to the new server during a later phase, previous guild membership and standing will not be restored. Since we may offer multiple opportunities to transfer servers, guild leaders and members should coordinate their moves so that everyone chooses the movelog option within the same window for their server.
  • The guild's level and status will be dependent upon patrons moving along with the guild. If patrons choose not to move, it will be as if they quit the guild, so the guild's level and status will be adjusted accordingly.

Nah, there will be plenty of non-server exchange servers for them to ruin. image

I just can't help but wonder.  Knowing what a bunch of overwhelming money whores SOE is.  How long it will take before the design and rarity of items will be decided on by how much they will sell for on the exchange, and how much more profit SOE stands to make from those sales.

They stand to make quite a bit I would imagine. $10 per auction if you sell a character and $1 to sell anything else + a % of the final take if you are a seller.

Truth be told I would rather they get the money then the IGE's of the world but thats just my opinion

The recent article in CGW stated that companies like IGE make as much as 100 times the money on rare items and accounts with high level characters as they do selling credits/gold/isk

I may be old fashioned but I just think its so wrong.

The main reason I quit EQII was because of this.

I know it goes on but so does murder, robbery, and other crimes, but that is no reason to give it an aura of respectability.

I will never play another SOE game again.

What is wrong with earning your items by playing the game.

    Oh well :(

To me, SOE was never a game company. They have always been about money and the profit of someone else's work. To put things into perspective, Sony Online has never once created their own game:

Everquest was Verant's work before SOE bought up the rest of the company, and so Everquest and Everquest 2 was -never- SOE's idea or creation (Planetside applies as well). Star Wars Galaxies is a licensed game in which the world was already created for them, and we all know how well they handled this game (sarcasm noted). They have acquired The Matrix Online which was created and completed by Monolith - SOE has taken the reigns and fired all but 25 employees of that project (way to go SOE). And now, for some God awful reason, DC Comics has asked SOE to create a Super Hero MMO based off of the DC world (which will most likely be horrible as well).

SOE was never for the gamers, and they never will be with John Smedley around. Some may say "Aw, you're just a disgruntled SWG player." Truth is, I only played SWG as the 14 day trial. I'm angry at every SOE game I have foolishly plopped money down on.

Until SOE creates and completes a game they have fabricated on their own and does it with the same passion displayed by other game development companies, I will never spend another dime on any of Sony Online's products. Station Exchange is a joke, and an insult to their customers. I cannot wait until John Smedley resigns. That will be the day I think SOE can turn things around.

Agreed , SOE is about the lies and not about the players. It's scary what they do with out care or concern for their customers . What I find fun is all the hair brained marketing schemes like /pizza ( has any lazy fat b*stard bought a Pizza like that on EQII , come on now , raise you flabby hand) and this quest for the Evercrackwhore, which is really a quest when you think about it , when are you going to find a hottie who looks like a perfect EQ female who really plays and is willing to model for it.

And now SOE is now become what they have fought over the past 6 years, an on-line auctionhouse for their own game which , in my eyes cheapens the effort and gameplay of their product knowing that anyone can duplicate hours of gaming with a credit card. This is sadimage.

    Smedley sells souls to simpletons.

Other games are already releasing Universal login.  Meaning you have the same set of characters regardless of what server you play on, which really helps when your server is full...  It's not that difficult of a feature to implement and I don't see why SOE couldnt have managed to do this.
