CCP Zulu has posted the latest EVE Online developer blog outlining the Winter 2011 Expansion and the "refocusing" of the game in the coming months. A second letter from CCP Hellmar is specifically addressed to those who are "disenchanted" with EVE and with CCP.
In the post starts off with a bang: "As we said we are planning something unparalleled. A significant part of that plan is the immediate refocusing of all the EVE development teams on EVE’s core gameplay: spaceships."
In addition to that announcement, Zulu listed the systems and features that the team will be spending or has already spent significant time "refocusing":
Hybrid weapons balancing
Factional warfare
Assault ships
Capital ship balancing
New T2 modules
Starbase logistics management
New EWAR-Drones
T2 Rigs manufacturing
Ship spinning
New font
More captains quarters
Time dilation
No specific timeframe has been announced as to when the Winter 2011 update will go int effect. Zulu did indicate, however, that these changes would "be on Tranquility well before Christmas."

The second letter on the site is from CCP Hellmar and contains a heartfelt apology to the EVE Online community:
The estrangement from CCP that many of you have been feeling of late is my fault, and for that I am truly sorry. There are many contributing factors, but in the end it is I who must shoulder the responsibility for much of what has happened. In short, my zeal for pushing EVE to her true potential made me lose sight of doing the simple things right. I was impatient when I should have been cautious, defiant when I should have been conciliatory and arrogant when I should have been humble.

Let's hope it works.
Words are always tough to believe. I do not play EvE anymore, but I understand the devotion of those who do, and the events that took place over the past few months really were a blow to the community.
Hopefully Hellmar remain true to what he says and has learned a lesson, and CCP will stick to creating a great sandbox came for its community without attemptint to ring it dry by upping what is in the cash shop.
My Guild Wars 2 Vids
I unsubbed few months ago due to bots in my area and overall CCP behavior
It's funny to see how kind and responsive they got all of sudden.
Even new fonts? 5-6 years of crying about the fonts and suddenly they got them ready?
Guess they lost a bit too many subscriptions.
Oh well, gonna see how things go after this ''emergency'' expansion hits, but they will need to do much more than that to convince me to come back.
I'm that bitter.
wat they doing to assault ships
I love how much of blatant lie that picture is.
No way a couple of frigates and destroyers would do anything useful to a, what is that a battleship?
Their idea of "balance" and combat roles is a joke.
BS or die, cap ship or don't play territorial control game.
You obviously don't play Eve.
I belive its a Rorqual. And like previously stated you lack knowledge in Eve.
GG
Yes what they don't show is the drones about ready to one shot the frigates and two shot the destroyers.
Or what, those ships are just tackling and the BS that has the DPS to break that larger ships tank is off the screen?
LOL at EvE
I did play, a lot, for a few months - what a joke.
Oh it's a Capital industrial, again, destroyers+frigs would take like 10 years to dps down it's 90,000+ shield/armor/hull
F*** humility. What have you people done to CCP?
[Mod Edit]
If it was those 4 ships, I'd agree. Just poop out some drones and the dessies are dead meat right away. And then it's just 2 frigs, and I'd hope a ship of that size could regen as fast as they could DPS, at least long enough for the drones to kill the frigs.
Anyways, I got an email from CCP a couple weeks ago telling me that my accounts had been reactivated for 5 days so I could try out the "new, less egotistical Eve Online" (My words, not theirs).
I didn't bother. Until Hellmar goes away (Which is what I wrote about in the "why are you leaving" box) I won't consider another CCP game.
Double edit post? Weird.
What are you actually trying to say? Most EVE players participating in pvp will tell you that ship balance with regards to ship tiers/sizes is fine, maybe with the exemption of the highest (supercapital) tier, which is incidentally being adressed this winter and yay for that. (Sorry thread for feeding the troll, can't help it, someone is wrong on the internet you know.)
The letter is best news in two painful years, CCP might finally be listening to their playerbase again. Good things are hopefully to come.
Exactly.
So I was wrong in my orignal post how?
All I want to be in a sci-fi space-based MMORPG is a small freighter pilot / combat ship but unfortunatley a game does not exist that knows a thing about balance.
They dangle just as many carrots to make sure everyone wants to keep paying to play to "upgrade" to the next linear progression step.
Yeah no, I'll believe that when I see it in something more meaningful than written words. They'd have to get rid of everyone that was in support of that cash shop move to make even half of what that letter was intended to convey actually mean anything.
They have already had a taste of the monacle, some shallow words aren't going to make that craving go away.
Assault Ships have 3 Bonuses whist being a T2 Ship, other T2 Ships have 4 Bonuses.
If I were to guess they are adding a forth bonus as well as maybe rebalancing their main bonus.

3 assault frigates or interceptors will easily kill a single battleship without taking a hit.
Web the drones and closely orbit the battleship with an AB instead of MWD. Take down the webbed drones with a few volleys and then grind away on the helpless battleship that can't hit you with it's big guns.
Anyways, all the announced changes, balancing and features aon't do anything to make the whole 0.0-thingy better. They need to adress sovereignity, moonminerals, true-sec, jumpfreighters and jumpbridges aswell to make it impossible for a very few large alliances to control all of the available space. And make outposts destructible... there's way too many of them these days.
I am loving all the talk of Battleship/Capital Ship or go home. It is very cute. Shield Battlecruiser Fleets have excellent Feild Control, Alpha and Strike Mobility as do HAC's and are used as fleet units as often as Battleships. Frigs are excellent Tacklers, and the perfect ships for deep space gurilla warfare. Stealth Bomber Frigate Gangs are hugely feared by 0.0 pilots. Cruisers like Vegabond, SFI, Cynibal, Loki, Tengu and Curse often take up most of the Hunter Killer roles in EVE slipping from system to system in Ambush Tactics sometimes with cloaked scouts.
If you were to write a PvP hand book about EVE Online it would be novel sized and Battleships/Capitals would take up 2-3 Chapters at most.
A "few months" in EVE is not "a lot".
Oh and you can be a small freighter pilot in EVE if that is what you want, except it seems that what you want is to be able to be a small freighter pilot who can go toe to toe with capital ships...
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
Was that "humble apology" a cut and paste job from the T20 scandal "humble apology"? If not then maybe his monocole needs a new lens?
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

Indeed. I loved Hellmar's championing of the fact that they sold like 50 of them in 48 hours. Well, every 2.5 months or so they lose 1 of those from my subs being cancelled. And any possible cash shop purchases I MAY have wanted to make. Also, I warn friends about it, so they lose that possible income as well... And I doubt they're still selling them at 1 an hour rate any longer.
"I did play, a lot, for a few months", now that was funny.
Oh well, I won't be putting EVE back on my hard drive unless (as was mentioned by twodayslate) everyone at CCP who was in support of that recent fiasco gets the boot. Until then, I'll just leave that monacle I stuck up their arses right where I left it.
"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
Never toe to toe, just want to be able to slip by and/or make a run for it. Do some actual smuggling etc.
But no, instead locked/scrambled/pod-killed.
Gate camps 24/7 preventing people from getting into Null Sec? Community shooting itself in the foot much?
Why stay in a Frigate or other small, fun ship when a larger ship can just deploy 5+ drones that have more armor, shield, hull as well as speed and dps then you'll ever have?
Hey, I could tackle and fast-orbit (sit and spin) and do nothing to anyone ever but be a nuisance!
Fun...
I want a game where a squadron of smaller ships is a threat any large ship should fear and thus the larger ships have to have escorts, not god-like Drones.
Drones ruined EvE for me, completely.
I was all like.. YAY I finally got into a cruiser! Hurray! Let's finish this epic story arc.... oh wait, I need drones to fight these drones because I can't hit anything? WTF? Quit #1
Then a tried to come back, played for a bit longer (2nd time subbing for a few months) got into a battle cruiser - wanted to play with friends in null sec but I couldn't afford to replace my Bcruiser if I lost it (and they all said to never fly anything worth any money towards a gate camp) and then they told me "just buy PLESK" it was either that or grind missions...
OK so how about just try doing cheap frigates and tackling? 3 tries to get into null sec all pod killed... ok friend with a Jump drive ship/freighter could get me into null sec "safely."
3 weeks on "roams" with.... 1 pvp fight, MWD + scrams, fast orbit, drone's 1 shot me and dude jumped away my friends in BS/BCS/logistics said "that's EvE"
Quit and deinstalled.
WHAT. A. JOKE.
That right up there is a difference between flying in a Frigate and sucking in a Frigate and nothing else what-so-ever.
What is there a fine art to using a MWD to get close enough to turn on your scramblers?
Or a fine art to setting your orbit distance to 100m and turning on your afterburners?
Is there a fine art to approaching at a 30 degree angle or whatever to offset the transverse?
It's not rocket science lol, it's simply bad game design that pretty much forces you to either get into a Battleship or bigger to compete or have to 100% be stuck in a very specific role that is boring as sin?
Oh wait, I guess I could try scouting again.... READING LOCAL CHAT omg so complex. DIRECTIONAL SCANNING omg so complex.
Or hey, dropping random warp-to points in a system.... SO COMPLEX THIS GAME IS FOR GENIUS ONLY
Bumping people out of cloak... zomg what amazing game design CCP!
"One massive open galaxy" yeah right more like thousands of instanced systems with only a handful of ways in or out that are camped to death and a community that actively prevents new players from enjoying THEIR game.
FUN!
So..........
No more developement on Incarna..............?
