Any decent wired, laser, USB mouse with 1600+ DPI should be able to get mouse pointer and button functionality so close to perfect that one being better than another is mainly about what feels comfortable to you. That is purely opinion. I like this mouse:
Links for those that want to reference/compare them.
I'm partial to the RAT-7 solely because I like gadgets that have gadgets to them. If the RAT-7 didn't have all the modifiable trappings, I'd go with a Sensei.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein "Graphics are often supplied by Engines that (some) MMORPG's are built in" - Spuffyre
Also depends on the size of your hands, Steelseries mice are generally small and lightweight. I have the Xai that only gets used as a spare because it's too small (sorta need to claw it instead of being able to rest your hand on it), side by side it looks to be about the same size as the sensei.
I love the Rat 7 and, though I've not seen that particular Steelseries, the others just felt cheap to me. But I don't really know if my subjective impression holds up to the test of time.
I CAN say I've had the Rat 7 since they came out (pre ordered lol) and it is the best. I have bigish hands and it takes my nerd rages. It is also the most comfortable mouse, despite what it looks like. You can adjust the size and weight.
The buttons feel really tight but aren't hard to press.
Side scroll bar to circle strafe ftw.
on the fly dpi toggle ftHEADSHOT.
I mean, people come over, even non-gamers, and just touch this mouse and want to get one. A graphic designer friend used it and got one immediately and loves it with the side scroll bar.

I think you guys/gals pretty much sold me on the Rat-7 at this point. I have viewed it and held it at my local best buy and really liked it. At first the aesthetics really pushed me away, but it feels great on my hands and seems to work very nicely.
It's curious that you're not giving any consideration to the Logitech G500. It's generally a lot cheaper than the Rat7, has a better sensor, and is at least as comfortable.

I have a Xai as well and I stopped using it for the same reason - it works well, but it feels lightweight and fragile, and the mouse clicks take little effort (which to me feels flimsy). I feel like I'm palming a mouse made out of an eggshell.
But it works well enough - it didn't break, it tracks well, it performs well, I just don't like the way it feels.
That may or may not apply to the Sensei, but the moral of the story being put your hands on one before you make any decision.

It's not so much that I did not consider this mouse for any particular reason, but more on the lines that no one really recommended it so I didn't really look into it. It looks like quite a nice mouse and I will highly consider it. Do you know if it has a sniper button such as the sensitivity reducer inside the sensei and the button along side the rat7?
The laser would take a second to reset if you lifted the mouse up even slightly, resulting in a dead mouse for 1-2 seconds..
Plus, i didnt like its button layout and that some buttons were reserved for specific functions, leaving you with less buttons than you thought you had.I also agree that it is pretty clunky.
I sent it back, got a Razer Naga and love it.Cant say anything on the Steelseries though.
I have the older version of the naga and love it. The buttons on the side help out a lot in MMO's once you can get yourself used to using them, but once you do its like second nature. I dont think I even use my home row numbers anymore. The new Naga is called the Naga Epic, it can be used as wired or wireless, comes with a cool looking charging stand, interchangable side plates for people with different sized hands (would LOVE this feature on the naga I have now), and it changes colors. It has 5600 dpi but you will likely never set it up that high. I think the highest I've tried is about 2500-3000 and that feels good for me in most games but you cange change the key binds so that it will change your sensitivity on the fly (I believe).
Other that, I love it and its so far been one of my favorite products from razer (and I own 3).

You asked about two particular mice so the answers you got were related to them.
Right now i'm using the g700 and it's the best one ive ever had. It has all the buttons and fuctions i'd ever need at the right places for my fingers and feels just perfect in my hand. Just like the Steelseries and Razer mice have always felt flimsy in my hands, i havent tried the naga but i have tried a few. The logitech is weighty, comfortable and as i said everything is in the right place.
A friend of mine got the RAT 7. It is an extremely cool piece of hardware. If you have very large or otherwise atypical hands, the RAT is a blessing because every aspect of the mouse's size, shape, and weight can be customized to fit you. Just don't lose any of the pieces. I personally like the logitech G series mice better than razer mice. Razer mice feel way to light for me. I actually pack on all the weights the G500 comes with. If you like to play FPS and games such as DOTA, LoL and HON. Thats the reason to buy RAT 7.

First let me say that any decent gaming mouse that fiits your hands well and has the proper wieght will do fine. I play fps games every day and have gone through many mice. Laser, optical, etc... My recomendation would be the logitech mx518 although I admit higher end mice will have better tracking. It's just that once you get used to a decent gaming mouse you will realize that any of them will perform to your needs. It is just a matter of practicing with one mouse all the time.
I'm still using the mx518. I admit I haven't used any other mice from logitech, but I simply love the design of the mx518. This one looks similar, but the shape appears a little different. I'm only going by the photos since I haven't tested this mouse out myself.
For the most part, once I get used to a particular mouse I won't want to use a different one. Any decent gaming mouse that doesn't have buttons that get in the way or other physical flaws should do just fine. With the mx518 I had acquired another laser mouse that had better specs, but I couldn't play the same with it because I was so used to the logitech. So, I find, once you get used to a certain mouse you won't want to use anything else.

Razer Naga *hides*

The RAT is so ugly and feels so clunky in my hands, and my hands are pretty normal.
The R.A.T. Saitek makes some really good input devices.

Third vote for the Razer Naga. It's the best mouse ever.
What do you guys/gals like so much about the naga?

Edit: And by older version, I mean this one : http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/pd/productID.169418900/parentCategoryID.35208800/categoryId.54536600
The new one is this one:

After I used it enough to get used to the buttons, I find myself using it for everything, non-gaming and gaming alike.
You can program the keys easily to do whatever you need. It's quite nice.
Indeed. It's great for hiding porn at the click of a button.

Which would you suggest for games like Skyrim?

RAT 9 is a much better mouse and higher DPI.
