1.6 and 1.7 Theorycrafting

So here is what I know about 1.6 so far:

1. Ember sle - New Continent directly to the right of Sanctum out in the ocean. The size is roughly as big as Stillmoor and IPP combined. Videos are on youtube under Ember Isle..3 of them easy to find

2. New 10man called "Rise of the Phoenix". The achievements are already in the game. This is confirmed to be on par with difficulty with Hammerknell. Gamescon video

3. New Tier 2 Rift raids. Open world raids that are supposed to be upgrades

4. Some new type of Rift mechanics? The assumption here is Rift invasions that never despawn like way back in Beta. Gamescon vid they basicaly come out and say Rifts will have a much heavier impact.

So my theorycrafting on when it will release. Now with this new article http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/10/04/trion-worlds-treks-to-nycc-with-a-trio-of-games/ they say "The panel takes places on Friday, October 14th, from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m.". My best guess is Patch 1.6 will hit the PTR 1-2 weeks after that Gamescon.

Not if they stick to the trend it stays on ptr for 3-4 weeks then goes live, so this puts 1.6 early-mid November. Now knowing the date of ToR I and their hints at Gamescon that 1.7 will involve Planetouched Wilds another new zone with more mystery stuff and maybe another 20man raid I guessimate 1.7 will be early/mid December.

    Just wondering...

If RIFT just released a brand new content patch last week, why are you already looking the next two patches ahead, and what does that say about the content that's in this current patch that it's not worth talking about after less than one week?

It's like someone at a restaurant who just had their meal placed in front of them saying "Man, I can't wait to come back here in six months. I'm guessing everything I heard about that spring menu is going to taste good!"

I mean, isn't this current patch hefty enough after just one week to have enough to keep players busy, or do you have to start 'theorycrafting' months and months ahead to the future for something good?

The scary thing is that all of the theorycrafting you do doesn't even once mention real expansion regarding mmos with new races or level caps.. just.. patches and one new zone? That's as bad as only two starting zones at launch imo. How long before one new zone is released do players Level 50 eat that up? One month? Then what.. look towards patch 1.8 after the first week?

My guess is they will keep throwing light content patches every two or three months that can be completed in a month's time forever. There won't be any new expansions, races, and the like until after SWTOR launches. It doesn't make sense for Trion to shoot their wad early, then have people bolt for a new game.

They'll have to try and sneak in their "big" patch somewhere after when SWTOR launches (Dec 22) and before GW2, TSW (April 2012) and any other new mmos announce release dates. Definitely on the TSW thing as six month subs now will expire around April 2012.

New game release ALWAYS trumps patch content release unless it's WoW doing the patch.
