EVE Online: Cold War Edition Deployment

DanaDana Member Posts: 2,415

Word out of Iceland is that the Cold War Edition of EVE Online is being introduced into the game. The update is free, but also rather large, meaning non-trivial downtime.

EVE Online: Cold War Edition Deployment

The next exciting content update for EVE Online is being deployed today, 05 July, starting at 0500 GMT. This massive update, over 7 months in the making, will include such features as new capital ships, outposts, skills, modules, tech and much more.

Due to the size of this update, the normal downtime will be extended to 12 hours. The My EVE pages and official forums will have intermittent availability. Check the My EVE log-in page, this page and the Message of the Day for news and updates during the times the My EVE news page and forums are unavailable.

You can read the original release here.

I've been wanting to log on and try this new patch out, but the "My Account" page is down. Therefore, I can't reactivate my account and see how it's doing. Kinf of bummed out but I know CCP doesn't disappoint.

image I had no problems downloading, or installing... been playing it - no problems..

The game is huge already, and just got even bigger.

But them I'm biased - I've been playing daily for over a year now. image

Great Game but this patch seems to have a few more bugs to iron out than previous ones. It seems like there are things that slipped through that systematic testing should have picked up.

The missile combat system is a definate improvment and agent mission acceptance and mission bonuses being paid at the station that you talk to the agent to complete the mission in are good changes also.

    Keep it coming, CCP

We are pleased to announce that the Cold War Edition deployment seems to have gone smoothly in most ways. Of course, a patch of this size will bring a flood of questions from the playerbase, although we have certainly seen worse. Minor (and not so minor) issues were reported and have, in most cases, already been fixed.

That said, we are still backed up and our answering times have unfortunately suffered because of that. Our email incident queue now numbers around 1300 seperate cases, which will have to be processed and answered according to policy. Average answering time is just under three days, but we are hopeful that it will not rise any higher and with a little luck, we hope to be back to normal within days. Answering times for ingame petitions are still within our standard time of one hour.

The most common problems reported after the patch are visual/UI bugs, most of which can be fixed by deleting the contents of the 'cache' folder, located in the EVE directory on your hard drive. Remember to save your 'Settings' folder, if you want to save the bookmark folders you have set up. You must be logged out of the game for this to work.

I want to ask those of you waiting for a reply from support to not file multiple emails or petitions about the same subject. We will answer everyone and having to do it twice will only increase the waiting period for everyone. Thank you for your patience and understanding

Well so far, not bad. Graphics are somehow sharper, which I didn't think they could get better but they did.

    Two problems so far.

One, the "selling" doesn't work so far at the station I'm in.....don't know if that is just a local shard or the patch. Two, the "bounceback" (when you get too close or into an object) is too extreme, throwing my ships 30km or more from stations.

This was tempting enough to get me to reactivate my account.  After six months my secure containers were still floating were I left them :-)

I'm most interested in the RP potential of the changes in Empire politics.  Outposts sound good too.

I played EVE myself, and this "deployment" has caught my attention, and I have started to play again myself. I forgot how this strays away from the average MMORPG in that it has time based skill system instead of you having to do such and such to level up and gain skills. I think that is what makes this game unique, and I hope to be playing this in the future. For all that aren't fimiliar with this game, you might want to try out the free trial that mmorpg.com offers, i belive that it is located somewhere around here, and you can get yourself started with a 14 day testing of the game to see if it meets your taste.
