Bring back henchman and Heroes...

Lord.BachusLord.Bachus Member RarePosts: 9,686

I hope that sometime in the future they will bring back hencman and heroes, that could live in your personal Quarters...

Not to help you in PvE, because that is certainly kind of lame with all the dynamic content.....  But to summon them in WvWvW PvP to guard the places and Castles your realm or your guild holds in WvWvW instead of nameless NPC guards.... When you leave a castle behind to move on to conquer the next one, it will be much more fun to let it be guarded by your Henchmen and Heroes then by nameless NPC's...

People that once played DAoC will know what i mean.

To prevent over usage of this mechanisme, you could have a maximum number of summons/day ... but it would be fun to trait and gear these characters just like a player would.....

And maybe even a mini game that involves these NPC friends...

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

First of all they will not be nameless.

Second, how would this be different than normal NPC guards? Everyone would have these heroes and they would get old really fast, even if you got to equip them. But why would you want to spend alot of money on something that you cant even control?

Guilds will be able to own keeps/castles in WvW and I'm sure there will be some things that you can customize there.

Anet won't, and they shouldn't. Henchmen weren't the best idea for PvE, but they would be a really terrible for any form of PvP. Just a really, really terrible idea.

What else is she good for?

Actually they were. For GW1 they make perfect sense. Without them the game would not be playable because of its design. Unless you have a specific build for a specific area, the game can not be done with just one character. Since Gw1 is more ofa dungeon crawler, Heroes and henchmen wre great.

For GW2 they probably wont be needed since it's an actual MMO this time. I personally like the idea of designing my own companion to have it fight with me or even just act as a follower, pack mule, of passive buff. I doubt they'll do this though as people would over react and freak out about it and misunderstand it as people tend to do in masses.

Good lord no. That was actually one of the things I really disliked about GW1.

Of course they were necessary because of the game design. I consider it poor design. Obviously my opinion. but this is one of the few things I really, really disliked about GW1.

But it doesn't matter. They've already said they won't have stuff like this. So it isn't an issue.

Are you wanting the old henchmen/heroes we had?

    'Cause...they is dead!

Heroes were originally in the design concept for GW2, they were similar to the companions in TOR. They were removed because they didn't work with the game. So no henchman or heroes in GW2, they tried and failed.

Do you guys want to bother reading the OP before posting? Seriously.

The thread title was just to get your attention. All he's asking for is the ability to customize the guards that spawn in WvWvW.

What makes you think the guards won't be nameless? They haven't said anything about guards in WvWvW.

They would be different from normal guards because you could pick their skills, traits, and equipment.

No! Don't want them, don't need them. I agree with others, it was the thing I hated most about GW1 and it's the thing that has made getting back into GW1 for HOM incredibly difficult.

Your character is supposed to be the hero, not the shift supervisor for a group of heroes and henchmen.

Even with all the game's innovations and features, if it had been based around running an NPC squad I would have to pass on the game, that's how much I hate the feature.

    Guards in WvWvW ... sure.

    Henchmen... Hell no.

    End of.

Currently waiting for the MMO industry to put out something good.

Customizing guards would be kool, bringing back heros & henchmen, not so much.

They could even tie this feature into the guild system (ie unlocking guild perks gives you more options to customize your guild's guards that will help defend areas in WvWvW). Not entirely unlike with WAR, when your guild was incharge of a keep, they could upgrade it at will (except hopefulyl with a lot more customization).

I would be all for a feature like that.

I agree.  I hate micromanagement, it's why I hate RTS games and don't play them.  I don't need that shit in my RPGs.  And as good as Baldur's Gate was....I STILL hated micromanaging a team of gimped "heroes."  For ME....that just doesn't fly in an RPG or for CERTAIN in an MMO.

No not at all.. We need less PvE in our PvP.

I agree that they shouldn't be in the game. In guild wars 1 they were perfect and worked. but in this new design they wouldn't be good. No need.

I agree I like the idea of customizable guards that your guild can unlock more than the idea of bring back heroes and henches for each player.

There is only one balanced way that would work: If you made a class that could use them as pets.

For the personal storyline it works fine though. I expect them to have something a little like that for the solopart of the game. But for the open game they don't make sense any more. The dynamic events scale so adding NPCs that helps the player makes little sense.

They could possibly add them to the dungeons as well but I prefer if they don't. Dungeon play is the one place where group dynamics are truly important.

But a pet class with a human (charr, asura, sylvay or norn)pet you lock up in the story works. You just a similar balance to the ranger with her pet.
