And tell me if you think that this kind of combat mechanisme could work in an MMO?

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

yes it can work. Mortal Online has shown that, as it is currently the closest thing to an Oblivion mmo. however it takes a very good and experienced company to make it work well and nobody is currently interested in spending the money required to make an mmo like that.

That was my first reaction to the sentence too. It's just a really bad example though and doesn't really give sway to whether it would work or not.

I pre-ordered and played the MO beta, but it was god-awful atrocious to work and play with. Is anyone still playing and is it worth a second look?

Exactly.  He just unwittingly argued against his own point.

wile it is "better" tahtn it was at laucnh it still not even close to finished or polished. there a few people still playing, but definately not many. if you are curious just do the free trial and make up your own mind.

just to be clear, by no means did i imply taht MO is a good example of an "Oblivion style" mmo. on the contrary it's probably the best example of how NOT to do it, but it still shows that it is possible to make an open world, fps, aim based, mmo.

Yes it can work, no MO is a bad example. I think the best one to make a MMO like this is Bethesda, and Bethesda only. And if they really start making one and do it in the quality of Morrowind, Oblivion or Skyrim, I'll drop every MMO I play and hop in it immediately!

Off the record... Seeing this movie I figured to screw the MMOs I play now and get the Elder Scrolls out again ;-)

I think it would make for an excellent MMO.  However, Elder Scrolls games spend a lot of time on making NPC interactions interesting and dynamic, and I don't that that would be as necessary in a MMO.

It could work. It doesn't mean it's gonna be popular.

But like people said, if you're interested in that kind of stuff, try Mortal Online, even if the game isn't a "huge success". I'm not sure if I can even say that it's a success, period.

Or you might be that kind of people who only want an MMO with a "brand". Skyrim is a popular name, maybe it will attract more people, who know.

bethesda has some of the worse game/world design i've ever seen. if they made a skyrim MMO, it would be as big of a disaster as the old republic is going to be.

might be worthwhile if they let obsidian work on it though LOL. literally every expansion bethesda outsources ends up being significantly higher quality than their original product

I dunno about TES 1st person mechanics for an MMORPG, but the game world of Skyrim is miniscule considering the franchise it's from.  Skyrim, like Oblivion and Morrowind, all of which belong to "The Elder Scrolls" series of RPGs, take place in mere provinces of the TES franchise.

TES games take place in "Tamriel."  The mid-late 1990s game by Bethesda, "Daggerfall," implemented the entire Tamriel continent, but done in the days before Bethesda became more successful, and done with the limitations of technology at the time.  The game world depicted in Daggerfall is humongous, and I think the word doesn't do it enough justice to tell exactly how big it is. ["Daggerfall" with Tamriel]

Skyrim's locations are too small for a proper TES MMORPG.  IMO, a proper TES MMORPG should have the entirety of Tamriel.  Do that with enough spice, variety, and I'll be thoroughly impressed.

The Elder Scrolls franchise deserves that if it ever goes towards an MMORPG.  Otherwise, specific sections of the world are fine in the SPRPGs of TES.

"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." Thats actually what I've been doing lately...

But a Morrowind or Oblivion MMO would satiate what I've been wanting for years.  Oblivion has one of the most immersive worlds, and there is SO much to do.

If Bethesda made an MMO, I firmly believe it would be a be all, end all MMO for many people.
