PVP? thinking about Sub'ing

genasisgenasis Member Posts: 3

honestly i know it sounds bad, but, i only play games with good PVP.

My question to you is.... Is there alot to do PVP wise?

I know theres like a Battleground option like "wow", But is there anyhting else?

Also dose it keep your attetion for along time if you only pvp?

Like is it hard to get gear for pvp? or can you just easily grind for it then you have it, and then your like everyone else?

Or is there harder pvp gear to get?

like for example for anyone that plays/played wow, You got your Honor Point Gear, THen you got you Conquest/Arena gear "that you can slowly grind up for", then you got your Arena Elite Gear "Need to be a the top of rankings to get the gear"

Do they have something like that?

Or did rift go away from pvp and make it more PVE wise?

Let me know your imput! Thanks Alot! :)

-Sorry for bad spelling-

PS: Yes, I was a WOW  "fag"

The pvp is pretty unbalanced, but it can be fun if you are willing to pick the fotm specs. It is mostly warzones but depending on server, it can have some decent world pvp focused on PvP Rifts. The pvp rifts arent anything special though once you max out the faction associated with them. Warzones are the way to go for gear and pvp progression.

The rank system is pretty much a huge grind. It rivals some of the most painful grinds in any mmo out there. It takes roughly 3 weeks /played time in order to achieve max rank and acquire all the gear. The difference between rank 8 (the max rank) fully geared and rank 7 even, is pretty substantial. Gear is a huge part of the pvp in the game and in order to be competitive you would need rank 6 and a good crafted weapon atleast.

If you want something different and are willing to do some PvE Rift is a solid game to kill time. It is still growing (from what the developers say anyways) and seems to have a healthy population. Who knows what will happen when the heavy hitters come out though.

PVP was very fun at the early levels, but I PVPed casually.  When I tried it at 40 and up I would get destroyed by pvp geared players.  The fights were very onesided or I could just suck at PVP ;D.

PvP is mostly done in the Warfronts (instanced battleground where each map has different objectives. There are 5 now with one recently added and there are bonuses on the weekends. As for balance, the classes are balanced enough where skill and gear decided the most of the time - usually gear. R1 doesn't really stand a chance against a R8, but within 1-2 ranks the fights are generally pretty fair as long as you counter the enemy. 3-4 ranks off it gets pretty difficult to win, but still possible I suppose.

Rift definitely has PvP that rewards team play, as focusing down players and performing objectives as a team makes the WFs inifinitely easier to win. The problem with that is that the majority of WFs are solo players queueing for the WF that get matched. If you do form a premade group and queue as a group, you are pretty much guaranteed to face a R8 premade, so that's generally a bad idea. A few specs for each class definitely are the best for PvP, but there are many viable specs that can do well with practice and intelligence.

World PvP pretty much consists of PvP rifts. These are basically events in the world, spawned by players, where one side tries to run sourcestone to beacons and the other faction tries to stop them. The rift ends when time runs out, enough sourcestone is returned, or the extractor at the rift itself is destroyed by the attacking faction. These can be fun, but are generally one-sided and are basically farmed for their rewards.

As another poster wrote, the PvP grind is a huge one. R1-R8 takes a LOT of prestige (PvP experience, if you will). Not a ton of players are R8, though, so it is something to be proud of when you get there. PvP rewards are bought with Favor (PvP currency) and even when you reach R8, it takes quite a long time to earn the favor necessary to buy all of the gear available at R8. There is also several PvP factions, most of which you earn faction with by doing certain warfronts, but there is one for each faction that you earn faction with by doing PvP rifts and their dailies, which are actually PvE dailies. This is kind of a grind, but the PvP dailies are meant to get players of opposite factions to the same place in the world for PvP and its not hard to max faction with them.

Overall, it generally takes a person who likes this kind of PvP to like it. I suggest you try it out, queues aren't bad on a populated server, and see how you like it. I really enjoy the game and maybe you'll find a nice balance between the PvP and the PvE that Rift offers, but PvE probably could last you alone, providing you like the style enough.

If you're really considering subbing this game for the PvP then I have a feeling that you won't fully enjoy the experience. The PvP in Rift is a joke, with poorly thought out mechanics (50% healing debuff procs) and the unbalanced nature of it. Trust me, you will just wind up QQ'ing most of the time, especially when you're a fresh 50 with Rank 1 gear.

The sad thing is that I'm a PvP kind of guy, who enjoys playing games like Super Street Fighter 4, Modern Warfare, Starcraft 2, etc. Yet Rift has left a bad taste in my mouth. Watch the beginning of this week's episode of The Sanctum to understand the state of Rift's PvP.

Depends want you want and/or what you are used to.

The PVP in Rift is mostly a grind....it's PVE raiding for PVPers. Just about all the PVP is in battlegrounds with timers and objectives, once a day everyone descends on a different part of the landscape to do a few quick pvp quests and then its back to BG's. There is no persistance of 'open world' PVP. If you are an ex-DAOC player you will weep tears of sadness at what has become of PVP in MMO's. If you are from WOW then from what I hear it's very similar to some of WOW's BG's. PVP can be fun in bursts it gets really boring grinding the same BG over and over to gain ranks. Then again some people enjoy grinding reputation, faction etc etc.

In summation its just what you would expect from the modern day AAA MMO paradigm.

UO beta, etc etc ---> present day.
Currently in LOTRO while waiting for another DAOC to arrive!.

The pvp in DAOC was the best in any fantasy MMO. Nothing has come close or beaten it yet.

Well there is at least one MMO that's attempting to be the spiritual successor to DAoC, with regards to its PvP.
