Yeah, as the title of the thread says... Does it exist?
I started of with DAoC when I was a little kid. Was a bit complicated, but was great fun. Then my dad went off and then did I....
Eve Online... I used around 6 months on this bad boy. I dont know what I did wrong, cus I never found any PvP but when I entered a 0.5 zone and got blewed away. Did mining and missions but never tried PvP even though I wanted to.
World of Warcraft... Game is fun, but at the same time one piece of shit PvP wise. Pretty fun to do arena - Pretthy PoS to pay monthly fee to spend 10 minutes playing 10 arena games every week.
Warhammer Online - This is by far the best MMO with PvP I have ever enjoyed the most. Since Rank 1 you can jump straight into Scenarios and have fun versus other players. I really wanted to jump back into this baby, but my memoriessays something about lagspikes now and then, plus everyone says this game should be as dead as hell.
Global Agenda was no fun at all for me. Very fun to do some third person shooter into a game. However it just didnt work out for me.
Age of Conan... I only tried it like 2 hours or so. The thing you have to aim left, center, and right, and then some spells seemed strange to me. Plus I didnt experience any PvP at that time. People in here also say, that PvP is dead in this.
Pites Of the Burning Sea... Tried this one out. Pretty hard to get into imo. And also I experience stuttering in cities while seafights though are smooth. But I couldnt find any fast pvp in this so I just shut it down.
Rift was pure shit. Copying whole WoW. BGs like WoW, leveling like WoW. Everything felt like WOW. And oh, I have a AMD Phenom II X6 prcessor, so the game ran like shit on my PC thanks to GameBryo fag engine.
Help me! I am willing to maybe give Eve Online another try. But How do I find PvP in this?
I am willing to give AoC another try. I hear its growing large, but also it has most PvE content.
War Online. Is it as dead as people say? Or will it just get the knife when Wrath of Heroes arrives?
Help me out, need some fun PvP like War online.
Comments
have you given Darkfall a try, that whole game is PVP, little pve.
The game with my personal favorite pvp in it is Lineage 2. Basically the pvp is castle wars and fortress wars. You have a clan which can be in an alliance of clans (called an alliance) and that alliance can own a castle. Other clans can try to take over the castle at a scheduled time. Fortresses are owned by clans and people can take them over as well. It's a fun style of pvp that actually makes you feel like you got something when you as an alliance own a castle and try to defend it.
Yeah I did. But again, this game tells you so little about the game itself, and wants to do so much that you dont have a chance to learn. And as I tried it it was mostly just grinding mobs.
Isnt the population not around the same size as war online?
People say it is dead but it really isn't. I have no issues finding a group ever, and I recently leveled from level 1 - 75 almost always grouping. It's a bit different than most MMO's in the sense of really needing groups later on because all of the areas that will give you a lot of exp will tend to be group based areas. Also the quests are almost completely useless. But there are two servers, one US server and one EU server. Every time I got on the US server almost all of the main towns were packed. Starting zones will be a bit dead because there are so many different starting zones and a lot of people are higher levels. Learning the game can be a bit hard too, but it pays off IMO, I have always loved lineage.

Yeah Im pretty much in the same boat. Loved DaoC... was hoping WAR would be better..
Now im pretty much waiting for Guild Wars 2. There's really nothing else I know of that (hopefully) gives good RvR.
You're not going to find the deep PvP you want in 3d MMOs. The engines simply can't handle a fighting system like, say, Street Fighter, with all kinds of moves and combinations.
You need to check out something like Achaea or Imperian. Not turn-based or skill-macro based at all. Many different ways to set up your opponent to finish them. For example if you are a Dragon, you can break someones legs, then knock them to the ground. Then before they fix their broken legs with a special cure, you can bite them in half. But if they stand up when you try to bite them it only does a little bit of damage. Very small example of how deep the PvP is in those kinds of games like Achaea.
I like Warhammer Online too its got very good PvP but to many people left it for whatever reasons. EvE i tried but never got into the game either. It felt too empty and took to long to do anything and I even had a friend helping me get my ships set up. I have heard from quite a few people that it takes about a year to progress enough in EvE to be able to do the really fun PvP and stuff like that...needless to say I didnt want to wait that long to have fun in a game.
My first of three suggestions right now would be to play Aion which is a PvP focused game even though you have to level up a bit to PvP. You can eventually I belive around L30 start rifting which allows you to go to the other factions leveling areas for PvP and you can go to the Abyss which has Ariel PvP. There is a max Level PvP zone as well. Pretty much all PvP is open world which is actually kind of fun. There are battlegrounds (called dredgion, but those only come up at certain times.) I played Aion for along time. It has some Ariel combat as well which is refreshing. The downside of this game it that it is a LOT of work. Leveling is time consuming, getting the better armor in the game is time consuming, and getting the materials or in game money to upgrade your weapons and armor is time consuming. I got lost in it for a long time and had a lot of fun and became very strong on my Gladiator but eventually I had to move on.
My second suggestion is Age of Conan, I know you said you already tried it, but this is what I'm currently playing and am quite frankly the most addicted I have been in a long time. It does have a lot of PvE content, but I recommend you make a character on Tyranny a PvP server which has open world PvP in addition to Guild vs Guild Sieges(pretty laggy tbh), and a huge amount of people doing the "mini-games" which is the PvP battle grounds. The other server I recommend is the Deathwish server which is the more hardcore PvP server. Once you get out of the tutorial/starting zone "Tortage" which is at around level 20 there is open world PvP even in the cities since there is no guards. Essnentially the friends you make on the server protect you. There are also mini games and Siegeing on this server. There are no character transfers allowed to Deathwish which means everyone started out from the bottom just like yourself. Deathwish also offers a limited corpse looting feature to further humilate your opponents when you kill them. Melee combat is also very challenging however it feels very rewarding as you find your self getting better. While armor and AA's help alot in this game, your skill level at playing your character makes a huge difference in this game.
My last suggestion would be to give Warhammer a try. There is still a lot of PvP just not as many servers. I recently resubbed for a try and was plesently suprised with how many people there are still playing despite the low number of servers. I know they reduced PvP armor set costs as well to help people catch up a little quicker to the players that have been playing forever.
I dont mind button smashing PvP like in typical WoW, War etc.
I just want a Pvp Game. Not a PvE game with a PvP minigame, like WoW.
I tent to agree its not dead per say. How ever atleast to me pvp kinna died on me, part of the problem is the FOTM phenomenom, this is nothing new but in alot of games it seems to be more on a more.. extreme lvl.
Then the mentality, at the risk of starting a flame war.. some of my fondest memories of pvp are from Aoc, the earlier times before pvp gear was added. This may have been my server.. but people where friendly and mature about it. We all know the .. problems with Aoc and the effect it had on the playerbase size but atleast on my server it resulted on gentlemen agreements, we still seige'd but the keep wasnt really taken.
Even in zones like Kush we had agreements, the empty town and near res points where grace zones to us, people didnt attack people there.
Later that changed, it seems to have changed in nearly all games I bothered to pvp in, if you win , you cheated exploited and/or are playing a op class and if you lose.. it was skill that beated you , how you sucked etc etc etc.
I tried Aion. I bought it when it came out. I really hate asian MMO's. Dont know why. They just don appeal to me with the cartoony graphic and buying my attention off with girls with so little clothes on and extremely big attributes.
I really dont like korean/asian grind mmo's.
AoC. I am willing to give this boy another try. Is it possible to level up through the mini games? Last time I played this I was around level 5 or so, but never found any PvP or mini game modes... So the rumors of this game being best PvE is wrong?
I REALLY LOVED to give Warhammer Online another try. But from it feels like, Mythic already decided to backstab War Online. Wrath of Heroes are the new War thing. And more and more people are falling off the servers. 80,000 subbers were only active mid summer last year according to some stat sites.
From what I heard (and we all know interweb people can be wrong), AoC is growing each day while War Online gets less and less peeps. I dont mind paying for a game. But I think most understand, I rather want to pay to a game that is not dying.
Eve online.
but ur gonna either get with a corpthat trains younglings, or do missions and such and then goto low sec.
TBH i would suggest you join a corp, the big good ones will supply you with everything you need and will take you along when they do ops so you can learn the ropes. and it doesnt take a long time to PvP. hell you can PvP from Day 1(though you'll most likely lose) and in under a week you can be a beginner "tackler"
you see in eve it's not the tank, healer, DPS kinda aspect. it's squad warefare, stategics and the like. it's your commander plotin and sending scouts hopin to see what the enemy is bringing to the table, and then desciding to either fight or Flight.
sounds like you were in empire space.
you want pvp, MASSIVE 30+ VS. 30+ ship fights? then Null sec is where to be
To Protect The Helpless From The Heartless
Don't get me wrong there is a lot of PvE options in AoC and the PvE is actually very very well done, but there is a lot of PvP to be had you can start doing mini-games I belive at level 10 and there are brackets, 10-19, 20-29, 30-39 etc all the way up to 80, with players bolstered up to the max level of the bracket similar to WAR. I recommend the Deathwish server obviously because it has like minded PvP players who want to PvP. World PvP starts outside of Tortage at level 20. Siegeing is fun as well where you can destroy another guilds keep and take it over for your own. I enjoy both aspects of the game. I pretty much PvP all day long until my guilds set raid times then do some PvE.
Can you tell me how do I sign up for this? And is AoC growing after the F2P model has hit?
And is the PvP really good in this? Is there as many 1000 of hours here like War Online or only 10 hours a week like WoW?
Do you play both War Online and AoC mate? :P
I don't play War any more my sword master is RR 100 and i've grown kind of bored with it.
Age of Conan has indeed been growing again with the F2P model, the servers are much more active now compared to before. I personnally PvP mostly through mini-games because its even numbers. I probably play 35 hours of PvP a week (job gets in the way :P). There is a long road to get PvP armor and alternate advancement points so you wil be PvP'ing a lot. I also PvE at night probably around 8 hours a week.
The PvP is refressing to me, you may find you don't like it, but I think its challenging because your movement, and ability to execute combos fast really make a huge difference in this game. There are a lot of advanced things to do to make you better. You can dodge attacks (Double tap A, S, D to hop out of the way) or by moving out from in front of people to make people miss their attacks. In Age Of Conan the last step of the combo is what triggers the big damage so the best players are able to recognize that the combo finisher is coming and sidestep or move out of the way so that the enemy misses. Line of sight is important against casters (pretty much in every game). You can also preload combos as a melee class. This is where you do steps of the combo except for the last step while your moving towards someone so you can have the combo do max damage right away.
Here is a little guide on how to sign up for mini-games:
http://conanvault.ign.com/wiki/index.php/Basic_Minigame_Guide
There is a PvP resource zone called Cimmerians End where guilds fight over resources needed to build their guild cities.
Sieging allows your guild to attack another guilds city to try to claim a city. Having a city gives various benefits.
Oh and PS it keeps track of your wins losses kills and deaths too if you like that thing. I have 55000+ kills on my ranger and over 2000 mini game wins so yea I like the PvP in this game
real pvp doesnt exist in mmos.... real pvp actually means people versus people
get some real pvp at midnigt, maybe around the east side? lol
And what about the meditation thingy? How does that exactly work?
Real pvp? As opposed to what... fake pvp?
I've enjoyed PvP in plenty of games so I guess I'm not sure what exactly you're looking for.
UO is still around.
Player made structures and towns, that need both might and politics to keep it around and worthwhile. That's been done in a few MMOs.
I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.
Real PvP as in fistacuffs, bloody noses and removable teeth!
I'm not sure how to fit that into an MMO though.
Sarcasm is not a crime!
Savage2 has the real fighting you need. None of that gay lock-on target crap. You move freely, swing any direction.
Takes real skill to win a fight, none of this weak who gets the first shot off crap that kids are used to these days.
I will give AoC another shot
I play ut99 for me best pvp experience.Honestly MMO and pvp don't mix,i mean how many people can you fight at the same time?Well for starters you can't fight more than one with the best of skill.
The best pvp can ever offer is to have equal starts, with varied game play.
You can't fight more than 1 person at a tiem anyhow, you can try bounce between a couple but it loses it's overall skill that way.
If i took someone through a UT99 map and showed tyhem why it has so much skill,i think they would be VERY surprised.I have shown some decently good players things, they never knew existed.
I will explain why UT99 is so far above other pvp games.Ok starters the balance, yes latency is a huge factor, but that can also be agreed upon unlike gaming in a MMORPG.
Ok yo ustart pretty much no weapon,so it is yoru thinking and choice as tyo where to go for your first weapon. However being skileld with ALL weapons means you SHOULD go for the closest one. However a killful player will soon realize waht the opponent favors for weapon and play style, this is where you try to out think your opponent, this does not exist in MMORPG's.
Varied weapons are huge UT99 offers short range, mid range, long range, splash damage, prediction[shock combo],goo gun has many good aspects to it,like it can one shot kill a fuil armoured player and can be used as a lame lay down tactic.
Maps are a big reason, they offer more cover, they have a certain way to move them skillfully again dpeending on your opponent, maps NEVER play a part in MMORPG pvp.Z axis in a MMorpg where?almost non existant, but in a good UT99 map it is there almsot always somewhere.Strategical positions, this is again part of map design and moving it properly and knowing where to setup camp as many like to call it.
MMORPG's are so thin when comes to skill it is really a non factor, simple aim and shoot is about 10% of what goes into skill. Then we have level unbalance, gear unbalance, really skill shouldn't even be used in the same sentence in a mmorpg pvp .
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
