I went from DAOC to SWG with a litle LOTRO and back to SWG in the past decade. I don't have much experience with other games. I spent the last year playing COD on PS3 and have missed playing with my gaming computer. I really miss searching for a good spawn, throwing down some harvesters and making a schematic for a factory run in SWG. Any other games out there similar to SWG in crafting and a player run economy? I created an account on this website today and wasn't able to find a good answer. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

After 12 years and countless MMOs.. I have not found a single one with the depth of SWG when it comes to crafting.
I've played lots of mmo's and can't recall any that had a similar system of collecting resources to the harvesters in SWG. The industry standard seems to be to collect resources as you find them dotted around the countryside, or as loot from killing stuff.
I've not seen anything like the SWG factories either, although Fallen Earth does at least allow you to set up a crafting run that continues while you're offline in the same way.
No. Pre-NGE economy is unique.
sadly i have searched and nada.seems no dev wants to do this again despite swg having the most unique, complex and amazing crafting and harvesting
There is nothing.
There is no dev team that has the balls or the skill to pull off such a deep crafting game. The devs of today are cowards - catering to the safe sale with a target audience of 16 years of age.
Don't expect anything of the like from a AAA developer. Any game with some actual depth will come from a group of true fan developers. However, because of their lack of financial resources, the game won't be able to compete with cutting-edge technology. Thus, the game will die and it will be yet another strike against the sandbox genre.
Vanguard has the deep crafting also KING OF KINGS 3 has deep crafting. There are youtube videos of king of king 3 crafting you can check out.
There is no other game I know of with the collecting machines, however there are several games that SWG depth of crafting to shame. Istaria for one, far far more crafting than SWG. A tale in the desert for another.
Venge
I think he means crafting + player demand (economy), not just crafting which by itself is a time sink.
Ryzom has an interesting and deep craft play
Thanks for responding everyone! I'm going to check a few of these out. If anything, it will be fun to try something new.
Lots of SWG vets play Fallen Earth, I would say they probably contribute to half the population.
Eve is the only thing that is close.
Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.
Kinda this. The SWG crafting and economic system was ridiculously deep. Players crafted the best equipment and it had decay. Players crafte enhancements for the equipment and fabricated the fluff items. Players specialized into the different crafting skillsets. Resources were dynamically moving and could be acquired manually or through the investment of equipment. Skilled crafters developed reputations resulting in players traveling to the homeworld of said crafter to get equipment.
The economy and crafting system allowed players to make a bonafide supply chain system with some specializing in resource acquisition, some specializing in crafting, and some specailizing in selling. It was truly brilliant and I hope the lead designer has earned some kind of handsome reward for it and/or gone on to better things.
Nope there was nothing like this.
Combining great crafting system , player made economy and item decay , just not happened again. Which is a damn shame as it is so much better than simplistic crafting and economy in themeparks and better than economies based on countless pvp with full loot like in Darkfall / MO.
Not to mention things like player shops which are great thing.
Now you have insta-AH working like modern electronic-trade system like ebay , that ofc is concenient but make market shallow
Sorry to say it but we will never see the SWG crafting system ever again. Istaria however has a very in-depth crafting system if you're willing to give it a try.
Google swgemu for a pre-cu fix
