TERA: Producer's Letter Talks NA Testing Schedule

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

En Masse Entertainment's Chris Hager has written the latest TERA Producer's Letter. After first apologizing for the length of time since the last letter, Hager reveals some new information about the upcoming testing schedule for North America.

The key points from the letter include:

  • Bluehole Studio execs were recently in town to work with En Masse to set up the alpha/beta/launch schedule for TERA.

  • Employees are playing TERA with Live Support in place. Next up for the alpha will be the implementation of the hotfix and client updating systems, QA and support team practice.

  • Partners and other external users will be invited into the alpha in the next several weeks. Users will be selected from an internal database.

  • A new account management system and a fully customized launcher/patcher system is being created.

You can read the entire letter on the TERA site.

They announced this game way to early in the states.  I won't be playing it, that's a given.  I've lost any and all interest in the title.  It just looks like another generic asian grinder game with pretty graphics.  Pretty much Aion 2.0.

I like to complain about games.

basically and when will these companys learn ?  The western audience doesnt play second fiddle to any game you want your game to suceed either leave it in asia or release it worldwide at the same time.

This game died miserable in Asia. Why should we even give this game anything more than a passing glance?  Just how much have their devs paid you to advertise this game on your site?

Because of the ability to think for yourself?

Having played the Asian version I understand why it didn't do well.  It is very hollow in terms of play, unless you like the generic just quest and kill.  The political system never really panned out and PVP was terrible.

No one I know of besides MMORPG.com has even heard of this game. Well except gamestop is selling preorders but that is because it makes them easy $$$. MMORPG.com must be getting easy $$$ too.

I still want to try this game for my self to see how it is but I wont buy unless I get to play it first. Sorry but ArcheAge has totally won me over so thats what I am really waiting on.

I'm an American, and even I want to slap the arrogance off your post.  Are you really saying games made in the East should release in the West before the people in the countries they're made in have a chance to play them?

I'll wait a few months after release and get it on a Steam sale like how I got Rift CE for 10 bucks. 10 bucks for digital download + free month is worth it.

one of the delay is to wait for more contents to be release in korea before they. will release here.

the other is making the contents more appropriate to the western side, by changing some of.the lore etc..

eme is trying their best to release this game over here as perfect as possible, so that it won't go down the road of what happen

this itself I believe we should appreciate what they are doing. I believe.none of us wana see another game that release too soon and crash and burn, its not doing good for the genre as a whole.

release date if nothing goes wrong will be spring 2012, so lets have a little more patient shall we?

and is good that this site brings attention to us regarding any mmo that's out in the market, instead of only wow and tor, right?

by that logic, people not in NA or parts of Europe should boycott SW:TOR because it is not released internationally to everyone at the same time. Australia plays on NA servers, yet we can't even pre-order from origin.

The difference is that anyone can play on NA servers but no one without a Korean SSN can play an MMO in Korea legally. So, yeah ... and Australia is always a toss up. Terrible place to be a gamer.

They know the game did not go down to well in Asia. And that is why its taking so long to release in the wesst, they are pretty much reinventing the entire gameplay. Aparently.

So because it didn't do well in Asia, people won't play it? Really?

I have this thing called 'a mind of my own' and I'll decide if the game is fun, not some other part of the world I've never been to.

That being said, TERA has actually gotten some praise from people playing it at game shows and such (look it up). As well, wether it's your thing or not, it is bringing some different ideas to the MMO landscape. Will they work? I don't know, but I'm definately going to decide that myself.

TERA is going to end up going Free to Play because it won't make it as a subscription game after people realize how shallow it is.  I have played TERA and the main selling point of action combat is a major let down as it slower and clunkier than Vindictus. They should save themselves the trouble and just go Free 2 Play from the start.

because gameplay is irrelevant and all that matters is visual aesthetics?  heh

well, maybe thats not such an out of line thought coming from a MMORPG fan.

somebody who thinks dice/face rolling MMORPG combat

& dragging around ingredient icons and clicking COMBINE,

& watching progress bars fill up

    is actual gameplay.

If this would have came out earlier this year I would have cared more, I had really wanted to try it but it looks like next will finally have some good MMOs. D3, GW2, PSO2, TSW (maybe), Archeage (maybe), TERA just isn't on my radar anymore.

I also agree with the person who said they should have released it around the same time in NA as they did in Korea. I never understand why Asian MMO companies release their games in the US a year or so after their Asian release dates, it cannot take a year to dub the game which is all they should be doing to it anyways. No one needs "westernization", anyone who wouldn't like Asian style games still wont like them after this process.

What's even more hilarious is that these companies expect us to believe a fully released game needs a full testing cycle (alpha/beta/open beta) for a localization patch. They use it purely to build hype when they could easily go straight to open beta and then release.
