The real free to play love is not where you are looking, but since its forbidden to talk about them here, i'll say no more. The clue should be enough though.

As mentioned before, World of Tanks is pretty good and addictive, with a non-intrusive cash shop.

Well, if you dont have LOTS of time in front of the PC, you can Try Sword 2 The USA Server of Granado Espada, its F2P, and if you take your time, you won't need to spend a Penny.

P.S.: I play that game for 3 years already, never had to actually buy anything to go on with my gaming(Many CS Items, you can find for sale on the Market)

No reason to sneer at Runescape, it's a solid game and I'd probably be playing it myself if the combination of UI and graphics didn't make me rage.

I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.

Perfect World really isnt' free at all. As Zoyita typed, they will try to sink your pocket....Really as soon as you hit level 30-40, and it is a major grind fest, and with everyone basically power-leveling to 100 in a week, maybe less, it isn't that fun at all.  DDO is pretty fun, Although you really don't have a choice but to buy an Adventure pack at level 9 or 10...You can't level at all past that without them. Alot of the adventure packs are fun though, so it's worth(to me at least) $20.00.

Back to PWE, really any of their games are grind fests, and if you want to continue to play any of their games, you will have to pay them, it's really just a sub...without calling it that. I beta'd PWI and FW and they are basically the same. AoC from what I experianced is pretty fun as a froob, so is CoH. If anything...play Guild Wars until TSW or something comes out...

Atlantica Online would be oh so amazing if not for the "head bashing" it started doing after Nexon busted in, though it was already on a bad road. But I'm still on the game despite the cash shop not done right.

Well, I don't like most F2P models but my suggestion (and I didn't actually read the article, LOL) is Dungeon and Dragons Online. It's a solid game with a F2P model that doesn't suck too badly.
