Grayed out

BarakIIIBarakIII Member Posts: 800

I tried out CoH Freedom today and found that I was having difficulty with my level 50 blaster, I checked my enhancements and found that 99% of them were grayed out. I'm assuming since they're grayed out that they aren't functioning, is there an explantion as to why this is?

Enhancements must be no more than 3 (or is it 5?) levels lower than your avatars level in order to provide benefits.

While I do have a goodly number of enhancements that are that much lower than my level, most are level 50 enhancements. They worked fine when I left so clearly they made some changes, I just can't find exactly what those changes are. The task of having to go back and redo all my enhancements is daunting to say the least. I had some nice sets slotted and now my character can barely hit anything and when she does hit she does little damage. It's frustrating to say the least.

  • Are you using Invention Origin enhancements? Those can't be used by free players below a certain reward tier level.

Hmm, I suppose I am, or at least I think they're mostly invention enhancements, I mean that's what most of the enhancements sets are, right? And if that's true how is a returning level 50 supposed to function when most of their enhancements will be invention enhancements?

Coming back at level 21 it has taken me 3 levels with bonus XP to replace my non-functioning enhancements with appropriate drops.

If they are IOs you need to get the Inventory license which I heard is about 2.00 per month.

Otherwise, you can only have 3 of a type slotted in one ability.

Assuming you don't want to slot over your IOs with SOs from vendors (which I can understand entirely) you can go to a trainer and switch over to a second build and slot that one up with SOs.

If you're not opposed to buying points (I know some folks are) then I believe IO use can be rented from the store for $2 worth of points a month I believe.

Yeah I think you need the 30 day IO license, I think it's 160 PP and that's not bad considering you start with 1200 if you're premium.

Oh do you know what tier it needs to be? I'm almost at the 4th tier, something like 14 of 17 points, I need to spend 3 more points.

Not sure (I'm subbing so I haven't paid a lot of attention), but I think tier 7. I've kept up a subscription since the end of December 2005 (after SWG died), and my tier 7 is about complete, or will be whenever I get around to slotting my rewards.

I just looked, I'm halfway through tier 6, I didn't see anywhere about the IO unlocks. I can use controller/mastermind/epic AT's without having to buy access to them, so I must not be far off.

To use the IO system you need to buy an Inventions Licence (160 Points, which is about $2) every 30 days, or have completed Tier 7 of the rewards program.

Alternatively, you can buy Hamidon Origin and Synthetic Hamidon Origin Enhancements from Wentworth's or the Black Market (if you don't have access to those you can guy a license for that as well) or run/join Hami raids. No license needed to slot and use them and they can be slotted and used even by Free players. A good alternative if you don't want to spend money on licenses, and they can make a pretty powerful character.

Another alternative, though an expensive one, is to use IOs purchased from the Paragon Store. They require no license or reward tier to use. The selection is pretty limited right now, but they will most likely be fleshed out pretty well in the future.

If they are IOs and you are a Premium player you need to have Tier 7 (I think) of Paragon Rewards to use the invention system. The invention system unfortunately includes IO enhansements...

I have the exact same problem as you. My Paragon Rewards only goes up to Tier 6, so I get lots of sweet stuff that I can use that most of ther premium players can't, but my main was all tricked out in IOs that are now useless...

To remedy the problem I'm thinking of just resubbing until I get enough reward tokens to max out the Paragon Rewards, then cancel my sub and play as a tricked out premium player whenever I want.

Sadly, you won't get it until you fill out Tier 7.  Every 1200 (~$15) points purchased gives you one more reward token.

That being said, if you're at 17 tokens currently, you'd need to spend an additional $130 to permanently unlock inventions.

    ($100 for 9,600 points + $15 for 1,320 points + $15 for 1,320 points) = 12,240 points / 1,200 = 10 Reward Tokens

If inventions are important to you, you're better of subscribing for a month or more to unlock all content.  You'll unlock one reward token per month subscribed.

Actually, subscribing would be a better option atm, it will have the same 10 tokens for 15$ per month. So for only $20 more it would get the whole benefits + stipends for 10 months. I would say that almost for every situation subscribing it is a lot of better than getting paragon tokens through buying at the cash shop.

I am at the exactly same situation (17 tokens) but I am not going to get suckered into paying for it. If I can live without IOs find if not I guess I won't even play much(sadly I haven't had much motivation to play it anyway, it feels too slow now but energy blasting still is cool).
