Should i just quit playing mmorpgs?

scaramooshscaramoosh Member Posts: 3,424

i've spent my time over the years playing every mmorpg, spent more time trying them all and never settling down because i get bored!

I mean apart from Planetside and Eve online, it seems to me once you've played one mmorpg you've played them all.
I want a mmorpg less tedious, all they offer is level grind do kill quests and a boring skill system which makes PVP very linear!

The only mmorpg i havn't tried is DAOC and personally it just seems to be the same as the others, theres no point trying.

Anyone else in the same hole as me? I've tried them all for atleast a few months each back from 2000 with EQ.

The new mmorpgs don't seem to do anything new aswel! I'm disappointed in Vangaurd saga of heroes for following the same path as EQ

I don't want to play RV it will have serious Inflation problems!

I just want sumthing like a modded version of eve onlines skill system but in a fantasy mmorpg! Atm they all feature very linear classes and leveling based content!

    Exactly what I suspected.
I never believe the hype about a game anymore. Which is why I won't play any game that doesn't have a free trial. BETA isn't a valid evaluation of whether a game is worth playing at release.

Besides... any game would have to be extremely good to peel me away from SWG.... frankly it's the best MMO on the market in my opinion. And nothing coming out soon even piques my interest.

Scaramoosh, if you can stand "so and so" graphics, try Irth Online, sure it's still going thru heavy development but only thing similar to EQ-clones is hotbar.

Yup people are hyping all these new games when they don't offer anything new or they are poorly done!

Games like RV and DnL are games that wont live upto the hype!

Age of Conan the first 20 levels are offline so that might be kool

Maybe try something different? www.dragonrealms.net">www.dragonrealms.net Its a pay per month text based. Before you say "how can a text based game be any good?" The community is awesome, you feel like you a part of it. You can do whatever you want. Chase circles (thats what they call levels) Be a trader, craft, hunt, steal, kill, fletch, on and on and on. People always need help from other people so everyone is bound together in some way. I played the game for 5 years. It takes a bit of reading ot understand where you are, but they have maps, and you can highlight strings of text to appear when you move around so you can see where you are going. There is so much detail in this game it is unreal. There are always town raids of rare creatuers, tons of items, they hold festivals for new items every so often. They have monthy quests, and sometimes a huge war.

Several years ago they had a war that lasted for about 3 weeks. You had to sneak around and people would form groups at walls and gates to save cities. The whole game felt different, you could feel trouble in the air.

There really is no standing around looking at each other...mainly because you can't. You always have something to do. So you can easily be a loner, or you can be teaching someone else. The skill system is unlike graphic games.

The whole game is what I would guess RPG's are supposed to be, you put your mind into it.

    Just a suggestion.

I'm not in the RV beta, but I wouldn't say it's not living up to it's hype. It's still under development and Redbelam has been working on it for years now and the features that they have posted on their site ARE implemented and working currently. Read the Commercial test review by Ferox on this site.

People that are looking for the "I pwn you n00b" and "My sword is more r0x0r than j00r sword!" probably will not like RV. It's a completely different type of MMORPG. The combat system that they have implemented in the game BY ITSELF is enough to warrant my interest along with the green coming out of my wallet every month. There are a TON of features that HAVE been implemented and are being tested. None of this "well we plan to do this and its posted on our site, but we just couldn't at time of beta and/or release" speel that alot of MMORPG companies do.

This game will have more of a historical fact into it along with great gameplay including a superb crafting system, a diverse and intuitive combat system, and also the skill based leveling system that they have implemented really stretches this game apart from the others that are out currently or even coming out.

As far as "inflation", I don't think that it will be a problem because while you pay RL money for IN-GAME currency each month if you wish, it won't last and once your character gets going you will make more currency in the game each month than it will be worth paying RL money for.

    Thats what I think.

It is my understanding that the 180 people that won the Roma Victor contest haven't even received their beta account information yet so, and the select few others that are beta testing the game are either employees of Redbelam or GoCAT select testers. Ferox being one of them with a few of his friends.

So one quick question for you chief, how is your friend in the beta already? ::::05::

Icompletely know what the first poster mean, I haven't tried near all MMORPGs, most has no PvP element & the only one with true real pvp is SB, ya it might be old. It has no equal, or nothing close to equal. Ya DnL will have PvP, but more towars WoW's system you just have building cities in the mix. I want lootable corpses. Darkfall sounds good, but when will we see that I waited 5 years, not waiting another 5, & Mourning sounded like it might be the game, but well they did a bait & switch, a huge letdown!!! I am thinkine of going back to SB, but there is the pop. issue, I mean why play a game with real PvP if you have to spend 30+ mins looking for someone to PK? I just wish some company beside WP had the balls to make a MMORPG with PvP like SB.

    Sorry
    I call BS
If it's not even in Beta I don't buy any of the Hype. Until someone can confirm/deny that it lives up to the hype who doesn't have a vested interest in the game I am unwilling to even consider comments made about it. RV makes a lot of bold claims and the folks who are restricted BY NDA from going into detail about the game are unrelaible. Ferox may very well be a select beta tester but he's got a vested interest in not pissing off the Devs at this point.

    Sorry, not buying it.

Not being a jerk but I just don't buy ANY reviews by anyone who has vested interest in the game they're reviewing. Selected beta testers are selected for a reason. Until this sucker is in open beta and people say it's worth looking at I won't believe the hype.

Not saying it's impossible but I've been around the block a few dozen times with MMO's. Not a single one has lived up to it's hype in Development. Though EVE came the closest.

dude... your problem is that you DO play all the mmorpgs... .and they ARE all the same.

you need to look for more unique mmorpgs like Darkfall and Roma Victor, Wheel of time mmo and Trials of Ascension.

If you love the concept of an online world with thousands of players... dont give up on the genre, look at me ive been waiting over 8 years for the next good unique mmo, and I finally found it in RV.

Ultima Online :) Absolutely the best Fantasy MMORPG to date.
Sad isn't it? A game that's almost 10 years old is still the best. It had its issues but no other game has had the quality.

SWG is a good successor but it's not Fantasy, it's Star Wars :)

What I would do if I wasnt sure I wanted to play MMORPG's anymore is play all the betas untill I find one that I absolutly fall in love with and stick with it. I think the more you play MMORPG's the more you realize alot of them are the same in many ways.

    Very true

SWG is like UO but has more content and more variety.

Just about everything else is like EverQuest

EVE is an animal unto itself.

Beyond that it just boils down to which one appeals to you most.

Shall we start a new thread discussing what's wrong with SWG?? ::::12:: Or should we just leave THAT one alone? ;) I think it's best we just probably talk about something else before you get a wake up call on how screwed up SWG is currently. ::::28::

If you would actually READ the RV site and the FAQ's and also all the threads and reviews on the game not to mention looking at the COMPANY history that is creating the game, maybe you would lighten up a bit? You are basing your "I don't believe the hype" routine based on the history of past MMORPG's and how companies have promised certain content and have failed to produce results. You are basing all that history and coming up with a "every MMORPG from now on will fail based on the hype it gets" attitude. I don't blame you for thinking that but sometimes you have to do a little reading and open your mind some.

Another question I have is: Why would Ferox tell us incorrect details about a game just to "not piss off the devs"???? If I was a Redbelam developer, if RV sucked or had flaws in the game I would WANT ferox to TELL ME about it so I could fix it. I wouldn't want Ferox to lie about it saying it's a great game when it's not.

    Cmon now...get real.

But it is unlike UO because the  PvP is shit and I hate running those gay missions over and over again.

    You may just be SOL.

The current games scheduled to release don't offer much hope, only two are different from the crowd IMO.  That's Auto Assault and Roma Victor (the latter of which I don't like the concept, but that's just me).

Auto Assault sounds good, but as has been said...it's yet to prove anything besides what devs has said (and I don't trust anyones word, I must try something myself to know if I will truly like it).  But from reading the latest articles, it sounds a bit like EVE on wheels (without the real-time skill system).  This is the only game coming out that looks decent.

I'm gonna try and help beta Irth Online once I get internet hooked up at my house.

  • anarchyartanarchyart Member Posts: 5,378

I agree pyros and although not much is known, I predict (and I never predict things) Auto Assault will be the biggest suprise of the new onslaught of next generation MMO's. People love BF2 and vehicle games, I think Auto Assault will cash in on that and take it to the next level. NCsoft is nothing if not timely and dedicated.

Irth Online holds much promise too with its ideas, and I have heard a lot about people dissing the graphics yet I have seen them and I think they are just fine, if not very kewl and appropriate with an old school look to them.

I'm in Auto Assault beta, it's just like anyother mmorpg

level grind, do quests, skill bar etc etc
