Unique MMORPGS

RazeeksterRazeekster Member UncommonPosts: 2,591

I'm currently searching for my new MMORPG to play as Rift totally failed to please me.

I've been searching for quite a while and just can't seem to find that MMORPG yet, and I've almost lost complete hope.

I recently discovered a M.U.D. and as much fun as it is my need to see things visually is not being sated.

I've searched mmorpg.com's game list and nothing has really grabbed my attention.

I finally decided to stop being self dependent and ask for some help!

I'm interested in any unique MMORPGS people have played that they have actually enjoyed playing.

Suggestions anyone?

Like you, I left Rift (I dunno know about you, but I ran away screaming) and decided I was gonna go with single player games for awhile.

I picked up Minecraft just to see what the fuss was about. After a few days of single player, I tried a Minecraft online server and have been hooked in a way that I haven't experienced since I started playing MMORPG's!

Edit: I'd tell you the name of the server, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to or not. The whole advertising thing or whatever. Send me a message if you want. ^^

Might help if you told us what exactly about Rift failed to please you, what other games you've tried and didn't like, and what genres you're open to trying (if I remember right, you're not big on sci-fi MMOs?).

SWG but it is closing down soon so...

UO but it is 14 years old and small player base.

Vanguard - small playerbase + legitimate RMT there. Very small and rare updates.

DaOC - old and on-life support.

Darkfall & MO - small indie, bugged games without half of promised features and almost solvely about PVP.

EVE Online - unique for sure, but very specific (you practically play a spaceship :/ ) and has legitimate gold buy option (throu plex).

Almost all of rest of mmorpg's are similarly made like :

    - "very quick and easy levelling till you hit max level and then grind instances".

    That's all.

When it comes to uniqueness. There's only a couple of games that come to mind.  Minecraft, Atlantica Online, and World of Tanks.  All other MMOs are pretty much the same old same old.

I also agree Minecraft is amazing if you are looking for something unique. For MMORPGs you will have to look into Indie games and smaller scaled games in general. Xsyon is probably dead by now, but it was one of the most unique MMOs I've played in a while, Mortal Online, EVE is always a unique MMO experience. There was some flash one that was pretty fast-paced and addicting, think it was Realm of the Mad Gods, especially if you like the MUD/Rogue-like feel.

Rift failed because it had no unique features to it at all besides the rifts which got extremely annoying after a while as they got in the way of questing or even simply exploring.

Also the raids in Rift (raids meaning monsters would come in and raid towns or NPC bases) got to be super annoying too, as you couldn't even travel without meeting a raid and getting killed by storms of mobs.

Basically all of its "unique" features proved to be more annoying than unique.

I'm looking for a fantasy type setting, and yeah, I'm not too big on sci-fi MMOs.

Also to those who suggested Mine Craft I'll give a try.

Just curious do you have to buy to play it first (doesn't matter either way, I can still get it).

Not to be rude, but your suggestions all have negative things attached to them so it doesn't make me want to play any of the games you just suggested.

I tried that game, but my problem is the community is way too small for my liking.

If you want an "actiony" theme park game, AoC isn't terrible.

Guild Wars isn't bad as well.  You can't jump which is annoying, but the story isn't bad and the skill system is fun.

But really...if you want an awesome innovative game on par quality with WoW, then you're stuck waiting with the rest of us.  SWTOR looks promising as does GW2.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

Looking into some of the Asian games might provide some variety.  Aion or Lineage 2 come to mind as polished and well populated.

Guess I'll be waiting for Guild Wars 2, as I refuse to ever touch SWTOR.

I have nothing against Star Wars (in fact I love it) but I don't like the mechanics of sci-fi MMORPGs whatsoever.

I might give AoC a try until Guild Wars 2 comes out (already played Guild Wars to death).

plenty of games to keep you bussy, not many long term games tho..well not for me, bin jumping from game to game for years now, currently the f2p tittle dragon nest (mmorpg.com link, If from EU check these boards for the EU version)  funny little anime action game.

Not much dept to be found but its highly adictive due to its fast  action style combat and its not cashshop dependent.

handy to buy a storage extension if you play long term but bin playing it for a week now and dint feel I needed the cashshop stuff at all sofar, still low level so might change in the later game.

No to derail but Mechanics of sci-fi mmo's ?? Story/setting/art is diferent but thats it..

the only diference between a sci-fi and a fantasie game is the visual jacked around the mechanics as that works the same in every game.

    tried Vanguard?

i was just like you around last 2 weeks until i finally decided to play VG, and i instantly loved it

VG is pretty unique, with 3 kinds of sphere gameplay in the game, you dont have to really level up if you dont want to , because the level is seperated into Diplomacy, Crafting and Adventure

and each sphere is very diverse! i spent the whole week doing just diplomat on the beginner's area and still have so much fun, let alone in the real world of the game

i know you're looking for a bigger player base, but it's not dead either, you will see people chat in the region chat and it's not the most alive MMO, but it's there, you can still ask questions and still get answers, and grouping can be a bit hard at 1 point, but if you can find a guild ( which i think is mandatory for new players ) then you dont need to worry so much,

all in all, just try the 2 weeks trial, see how you like it

also, i can see you do care about the graphics, some people might say VG's graphic is outdated ( well if compared to games in 2010, obviously VG will lose ), but i'd say it's not that ugly either

all in all, i think VG is one of the not so many MMO out there that is actually a gem in the today's MMO genre

take a look at a couple of SS i just took in the beginner's area:

There's absolutely no MMORPG with a big community.

Neither "unique mmo" with negative downside.

    Sorry :<

Guess I have to look into WoT one day.

I also liked Uncharted Waters, Puzzle Pirates (I like playing Poker, when I drank too much).
Leaving the MMO-tag maybe you do like Stellar Impact, a new DOTA version in space, or Path of Exile as a Diablo 3 alternative. It is in closed beta currently and f2p.

Darkfall is my main game and it is very unique. By far the funnest MMORPG that I have played because unlike other games this one can startle me and make me feel like I am going to have a heart attack!

lol seriously be careful if you have high blood pressure . ... lol

Most immersive feel once you get used to the controls and your own setup (dont use the default setup!). Theres a 14-day free trial.

Warning: game is not easy and will piss you off more than any other (but worth it which you find out if you stick around long enough)

NEWS FLASH! "A bank was robbed the other day and a man opened fire on the customers being held hostage. One customer zig-zag sprinted until he found cover. When questioned later he explained that he was a hardcore gamer and knew just what to do!" Download my music for free! I release several albums per month as part of project "Thee Untitled" . .. some video game music remixes and cover songs done with instruments in there as well! http://theeuntitled.bandcamp.com/ Check out my roleplaying blog, collection of fictional short stories, and fantasy series... updated on a blog for now until I am finished! https://childrenfromtheheavensbelow.blogspot.com/ Watch me game on occasion or make music... https://www.twitch.tv/spoontheeuntitled and subscribe! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUvqULn678VrF3OasgnbsyA

I had to change my underwear while i was trying to run from him.. the worse part after that is the knowing hes behind u and not wanting to try look incase u frack up and end up in a even more bad position.. you leg it and pray if you are outmatched.......

ACE Online is a unique MMO space shooter RPG.

If I could describe it like anything, it would be that it's like Starfox 64, but deeper gameplay, and MASSIVE PvP (dogfights in the hundreds of players at times).

    You can't be serious.

Nexon's games are honestly some of the less cash shop dependent F2P's. I got to max level in Vindictus with no penalties playing for free. Maplestory can be played for free with no penalty, and Mabinogi only needs $15 for a mount and your set.

Well, if you want uniqueness in a game why not try the ff:

    1. World of Warcraft  -> the one and only

    2. World of  Tanks -> Shooter game

    3. Atlantica Online -> One of  a kind strategy game

    4. Dragon Nest -> Just like playing console

    5. Dragona -> Untimate PVP/PK experience

    6. Rusty Hearts -> Best Side Scrolling Game

    7. Minecraft -> Strategy Game

Thats all for now i think if your looking for uniqueness then thats the choices
