I would honestly play if they had a fresh server. A game this old is just so blown out via economy, guilds, and twinks. It makes me zero interest in doing so.

They need to find some way to keep the servers with a fresh economy and population. Perhaps a server that works much like the Diablo 2 ladder system.

EQ2 just isn't fun in it's current state... you try to run a dungeon and higher levels are farming it :(

I even have 2 accounts with 45 days free...

EQ2 fares way better than most games its age for new people to get into.

Yes, the economy is somewhat an issue, but find a good guild and youll be set.  the mentoring system means people will be able to ehlp you even if they are level 90, and there are plenty that do.  Also there is the eq2x server, which with a gold membership plays exactly like the regular servers (with reduced race choices though, everything else is the exact same).  You really dont notice much of a difference

And as for the high levels farming dungeons, there are plenty of instances they cant farm as well.

    Agreed.

A fresh non F2P server would get me back in as well.

It's so top heavy these days though on Live that it's an extremely lonely experience, and it dosen't help that the dungeon finder doesn't allow mentoring.

A fresh server would pull me back in for the next few years though.

top heavy yep but doesnt take alot of time to get there, ofc not  sure if that is a good thing, but if just intrested in raiding there is absolutely no reason to not play it....the top aint far away

The top is what sucks in eq2... That's where its the same ol grind. So yeah its easier to get there... But its like rushing through a vacation. Problem is the vacation is a bit marred these days. Which lowbie dungeons are high level proof? Honestly thats what made me stop playing. That and the clunky feel (and i have great computer).

Splitpaw has a few scalable (lvl 20-50) private instances solo, heroic, and epic.

The Eq2 Exteneded server is only a year old and it is still very bottom heavy. You don't need a new server to come back. It took almost a year before there were a lot of high level players on the current server. Now the server is in really good shape with population at all levels. The best Eq2 experiance would be on the extended server. Avoid the live serves as they are 7 years old now and completely top heavy with no new players at all.

The instances, which unfortunately dont really kick in til around level 30 or so.

    DVinian Throne

    Nek Castle

    Deathfist Citadel

    and so on

I play on AB and really the one lower dungeon I try to avoid is RE.  For the 20s Crushbone Keep is least farmed because its more out of the way, and RoV lately seems to be fairly empty.  Havent tried FG in a while.

One thing you see a lot now, especially on AB, is progression guilds that look at a level and enjoy the content there.  There is an awful lot to enjoy, especially at level 70 (and level 80 was good too)

I did check out extended, and I was surprised that its really almost identical to Live servers.  You dont really notice the item shop, silver accounts are more than vaiable up until the endgame but many seem to have gold anyway.  The item shop is still completely unnecessary to use, and the only big difference over the live servers is the heal pots, which no one really uses anyway.

But I stayed on live because thats where my friends are.  Much like any MMORPG, the key is to find a guild you fit in.  theres plenty of em in EQ2.  Live servers arent all dead, AB has a very healthy population and CB isnt bad either.  About half the others are fairly well off too, and the rest still have plenty of guild on em.  AB is the only one youll find a semi-active low/midlevel game.   EQ2X is way more active though for those levels.
