how will you play Skyrim?

eyceleycel Member Posts: 1,334

It seems my gamestlye leans towards the completionists, I like to do every single quest/side quest I can find as well as any other objectives there are to do, only if its a good game though.

How about you, do you rush through the game and just finish the bare minimum of the main story and move to the next game, or are you somewhere in between where you do a little bit of the main story as well as secondary objectives?

I always play 2 characters at least. One for doing the main quests and another for doing side quests and exploration.

Im the same as you , i like to see as much of the world and story as i can and dont consider beating only the main quest line or story of the game to be actualy compleeting the game, imo the rest of the world is just as important .

I usually ignore the main quest chain and just explore the world, do alot of side quests, try to roleplay a little by focusing on some guilds missions.

I do the main quest chain eventually though. ^^

It depends on the character I play.

For instance, I just finished the main quest in Oblivion (at lvl 39) with my "Ayleid" Character. Essentially a High elf with a lot of modded armor and weapons.

This character doesn't take small quests but only exists to battle larger threats.

In an interesting twist, I had her finish the Umbacano quest and aid him in getting the crown so he could bring back the power of the Ayleids. However, she then saw how corrupt he was and what that power did and slowly came to realize that her ancient people might have been wrong.

Now, having said that, I have a "High Elf Character" who is a palladin who will help anyone in need. Better attitude than My Ayleid princess and he is there to solely fight evil in all its forms.

Cue my Dark elf warrior who is using an altered "Blade of the Haunted" (mod) which works more like "Stormbringer" from the Elric novels.

this is my "Nerevarine" and he left Morrowind but stopped in Tamriel on his Joureny to Akavir (as is indicated in Oblvion). At this point he is jaded and will sometimes use methods to get the job done. Sort of a "means justifies the end" sort of thing. Still, deep down he is good and will slowly remember that the end sometimes doesn't justify the means. He also won't do every quest but will only do the quests that further his ends.

I have a Dremora princess who escaped and is using a powerful magic artifact to cloud her true race so she can thwart Mehrunes Dagon.

So, I don't actually "role play" and talk to myself while playing but i adopt these backstories and motivations to help move my character through the game. Essentially adopting a canvas of ideas that help inform what quests I take and how the character will act.

I'll play skyrim in a similiar way depending on the character I use. Though at this point I don't know if I will use a dark elf and continue my Nerevarine hero or perhaps give in to the setting and actually make a nord warrior.

When it comes to games like these I also make certain to complete as much of the game as possible. I was really bummed that I missed out on an entire Companion in Dragon Age 2(The Male Elf), but with these types of games I can't stand to play through a second time. Especially with a lot of these being Trilogies with transferable saves I like to consider my first play through to be Canon, no matter how it ends. That's not to say I don't restart a lot of content to try and avoid certain outcomes, but I usually go with the flow unless I screw up something major.

I do the same thing, my first play through is canon.

I can play through the games several times because, if allowed, I don't do everything the same way because of the character I play.

I have to admit that in dragon age 2 I never once got the female gypsy character. I also never played with the male elf except for his story bits.

That's sort of what I hate about the bioware games lately. You have so many choices and can't bring all the characters they introduce so you ende up leaving many behind.

Sometimes it's weird. For instnace, in the original Dragon Age, you are joined by that dwarf so you can look for his paragon wife (god I'm getting old I can't remember the names) but you have to leave someone behind.

I find it hard to justify the whole "you know what, we only need 4 people to go into the dark roads so one of you just stay here at the dwarf city and enjoy a good meal".

Yeah Bioware games can be tough like that, but I'd rather have to make that hard choice than not even get a chance to. Especially great when the choice has consequences. The Deep Roads expedition in DA2 is a great example. Depending on who you brought, one of your companions could have lived or died, and even if they had lived their future depended on who you chose to bring.

Count me in also with this way of playing, I mostly enjoy just exploring the world and finding things that are off the beaten path. Most of the time when it comes to RPGs I hardly ever stick to the main storyline until Im out of side quests or places to explore.

lol, yeah, when in DAO 2 we were about to go into the deep roads expedition and they were like "what could happen", I immediately did a save just in case I didn't like what happened.

    Which I didn't. image

Your post makes me feel like I've been playing Oblivion the wrong way. Once I got out of the sewers. I pretty much ignored the Main Quest for about close to a month before even doing 1 part of it. I was doing Side Quest and Guild related things, for the fun. Oddly enough how you describe your playing sounds so much better.

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

yeah i ignored the main quest too for 2 weeks , was doing quests here and ther , joined the undergroup group (the name escapes me atm) , got a full of black suit + black horse , doing missions and missions , enjoying the game........

after 2 weeks of playing........ i remembered omg i gotta check where the "emperor son" is............lol

thats why elder scrolls win !

    cant wait for skyrim!!!!!!!

We will all beat the game.... But the joy of such a world is to explore every knook and cranny.

When you rush through the  story you will end the game 2 hours later.

You better save the money and get a good movie, will keep you entertained same time and its much cheaper.

With my pants on the floor.. oh you meant in-game.

Definetly will try to avoid the main story, but with how dragons are dynamic and seem to be an intricate part of the story that might be difficult, hope that won't be a problem though. Other than that, get lost, explore and find everything, talk to everyone and do everything, basically immerse myself and try to become part of the world.

..and of course join the thieves guild and dark brotherhood.

       Also..

      To: Skyrim's NPC/AI.

All your stuff are belong to me! Got a problem with that? Oh? Not anymore you don't.

Pretty much how I played oblivion.  Ignore the main quest as much as possible and build up my power on my character, mostly using magic, mastering potions and magic use.  When I gotten to the point that nothing left is challenging around 47th level is when I quit, mostly out of boredom.  This will probably happen after I kill all the dragons, got all the power words, done all the major quests, gotten most of the loot, and reached most good skills to max.  When no-one can fight you and its a assured victory, boredom sets in for that character.  Its not challenging anymore....

The game is dead not, this game is good we make it and Romania Tv give it 5 goat heads, this is good rating for game.

Hey Sovrath, Your replys are making me want to fire up Oblivion again and see if I can stick with it till the end (never did beat it) Can't hang with single player games anymore since i was intriduced to MMO's back when there was real MMO's (Yes I was a basement dweller).

Skyrim indeed does have me hyped a bit prob will buy it at some point and play it for a day or two and add it to the shelf with all the other DvD's I have with cobwebs and continue my journey to 80 in Age of Conan. Loving AoC right now (Can't believe I never tried it until about a month ago)

AoC could very well be the best MMO I have played!

Truly don't understand all the negativity on game forums towards it. Havent had an MMO call to me like AoC has in a very long time, I wake up at 2 AM several times a week to get some grit on before work @ 8. Havent done this in a very long time as well!

I'll probably play a heavy melee character with heavy armor, weapon+shield and some restorative/enhancement magic. So a paladin basically. Tackle things head on and go straight to the nearest cave or sewer looking ripe for looring and exploring. After that ill probably go for a heavy on magic character focusing on summoning and protection spells or a thief/rogue/ranger stle setup. But definitely a sort of paladin setup on first play.  On my first playthrough I'll want to do and experience everything.

What I'm really looking forward to is what mods the playerbase will cook up over time. Adding all sorts of overhauls, improvements, tweaks and new content to the game. This is what i feel gives elder scrolls games their longevity. The talented legion of modders which shape the game to their will.

  • Mister_ReMister_Re Member Posts: 142

I like playing as melee, archer, theif, I like the spells but try not to rely to much on them. As for exploration... 100% all quest, but some quest may close others, and with Radiant Story, I'll have to play at least 3x to get a full helping of dragon killing/shoutin.

  • KelthiusKelthius Member UncommonPosts: 298

A Death Knight of sorts. In Oblivion I used heavy armor, sword and board, frost and life steal magic, and summons.

I suppose I'll play through the main quest with heavy concentration on several side quest lines, and then begin looking for more side stuff to complete.

Above all though, I'll just be happy to be the most brutal son of a Barbarian ever on Skyrim.  Pure, chaotic melee.

  • Mister_ReMister_Re Member Posts: 142

Oh and I forgot summoning. I'm going to bring back every creature/person i kill to fight for my good/evil zombie mini army/ party.

    Zombie children anyone?

To play through the main quest I will play a Nord warrior, probably dual wield, seems fitting for the setting of the game. After which I will play whatever I am in the mood for. However, I do plan on making an assassin of some type and doing a bunch of nefarious deeds at some point. I want to see how infamous I can become.
