Is it still a boring grind?

cumbomcumbom Member CommonPosts: 544

I loved this game up until level 25ish, after that the whole damn game was nothing but a boring grind, from RoV to RE, very unfun!

Is the game still a depressing grind?

I'm guessing that if someone visits this forum that's because they play EQ2 and if they play EQ2 they, most likely (unless they are so attached to their imaginary computer friends or masochists),  enjoy the game and do not think it's a grind so this will basically leave you with a one-sided poll...

UNLESS! A whole bunch of those weird people that jump around forums of games they don't play and try to prove the superiority of their current addiction show up and start saying 'yes!' just to be spiteful...

I can't vote since I'm not past 20 but I thought I'd share my comment since I'm at work and I need to occupy my time somehow so it seems I'm a productive employee :P

There is still the boring grind. :) But the game isnt about the grind, isnt about leveling, its about fun :) The quests, which shouldnt be considered a grind. :). And besides, if you grind to 50, your going to miss everything on the way. :) I realize i am most likely talking to a brick wall like the rest of the mmorpg communtity, but still its something i figured i needed to say.

OK just for your information so you can stop yourself from making further assumptions, let me clarify why I asked.

At the moment I am not playing any MMOs and none of the ones coming out in the next little while interest me, so I am taking a look at the MMOs I used to play.

WoW - Great Game, but I am banned :(
CoH - Long Boring Contentless Grind
SWG - Best Game tried the CU and loved it just need to address the Jedi Plague ;)
MXO - Neat Concept, but ultimately boring
GW - Not a real MMO, nice graphics generally boring.
EQ2 - My major issue was the grind.

The reason I cancelled EQ2 was because of the Grind. Well at least the grind was the main issue.

So I wanted to know with all the changes I have heard about in the game, have they addressed the one issue that would allow me to come back?

So I am not trying to prove my superiority, I just want to know if what I didn't like is better thats all. Your apology if offered will be accepted.

I agree with you, but there were a lack of good quests for my level and even after finishing the kewl quests, one of which required me to camp a spot for 6 hours waiting for a named Griffon to spawn for the these boots were made for walking quest, as well as the ridiculous time it took to collect all the wood and ore or whatever it was i can't remember...

Anyways... I liked doing many of the quests, there were some that were ridiculous, and some that took some luck, like my friend who also played did the these boots were made for walking quest and the damn named Griffon was there waiting for him and his group! I was so freaking mad that I waited 6 hours for the damn thing!

Also find groups to do the smaller quests or heritage quests was often very difficult, perhaps because of the time of day I played, but any which way, all there seemed to be for me to do was to go to RoV or RE which was the only place I could get a group.

The game just needs calm down on the amount of xp that is required to level, I was feeling like it was a job to play.

Either I was not expressing myself clearly or you did not read what I said with a whole lot of care because I have nothing to apologize for.

You know what? You are right. I misunderstood, not by means of your writing but by sloppy skim reading on my part. I apologize.

I too kinda got sick of the game a bit around your level cumbom (nice name by the way). Thankfully, at 30, or before if you do the quest, you have access to the Enchanted Lands and Zek. The zones are quite fun and are almost polar opposites in the environment they take place in. The quests in these areas are much more fun imo and the enemies are more varied and interesting.

I would say it's worth a shot to try these zones. I know they really made the game fun for me again. If you don't like em, I hope you find another game that suits your style a little better.

    Thanks saigon.

About the name tho the sad thing is its actually my last name followed by my first initial... m. cumbo. A few years back i worked at a company that set up everyones e-mail account like that.... last name followed by first initial and so thats how i have always chosen my usernames.... well if i can't get Lobo I choose Cumbom.

Well IMO, EQ2 can be an extremely grind inducing game, at about 30 or so you get the feeling it's kind of pushing you towards that. At that point you have to make an effort to get away from it, involve yourself in the community, if you don't already have one find yourself a steady group to play with, join a guild if you havn't already, get into crafting if you havn't already if your into it.

Finding things to do other then quest, kill, return quest in EQ2 isn't exactly easy but they are there, if you take the time but if you the sort that is easily swayed by level admiration then your probably find it just as much a bore as you did the first time you were there.

loli am not aquestig person you knwo that, in WoW I jsut gtrind my little orc butt off, I mean i do quests, but not many, I have been lately since i am lvl 55.

anyways yea for EQ2, I agree with shae, join a guild, start crafting, get more groups, do stuff like that and it makes the game more enjoyable.

I am new to the game only lvl 8, but one thing I noticed in the patch notes was that they fixed a problem with mobs that werent spawning back. Not sure if that helps but it sounds like that may have been the issue with the named Griffon.

Every game you play is going to be a grind if you enter it with a grind mentality.  That goes for EQ2, WoW or any other big MMORPG.  If the only fun you can get out of a game is getting a new level, you will probably be frustrated that it doesn't come fast enough.

There is alot to do in EQ2 just like there is in most of the MMOs out there, its how you choose to spend your time in those games that count.  There is alot to do in a lot of places in EQ2 that has nothing to do with sitting in one spot and killing things over and over, if you choose to do so.  The options are there.

Yeah still item farming and endless timesink by waitin on quest mobs for hours and hours.

I dont think EQ2 is so much a boring grind in the xp aspect as it is in the money aspect.  People want way too much for some of my conjurer's adept1 or higher skills (crafting bores me to tears).  Its the one aspect of the game I hate the most, having to buy improved versions of your spells and the fact that some sell for dirt and others(summoner types in particular) are way overpriced.

Yes, there is still a boring grind. However, what MMO isn't?

EQ2. I never just grind. Leveling up is usually something that happens while I'm trying to accompish something.

    The quests are boring

    The grind is boring

The game was a disappointed, no immersion clicking bells all the time and hacing to zone!

It was nothing that the devs said it would be!

Ever since they changed the zones to be more solo-friendly and downgraded a lot of the heroic mobs to regular ones, the game has been much less of a grind. You no longer need to be in a group to level above level 20. Those that complain about the grind probably quit before SOE made this change.

Well grinding in the splipaw saga i get like 2% xp every group of 4 mobs i take, that was alot faster! The game has nothing but grinding though.

Only thing i can praise it on is the voice overs, tradeskill and heroic ops
