Call me old fashioned but i refuse to rate a game before it comes out.

I don't think we need the negative visualization that is being put out here. We need to 'see' these games doing well. You get back what you 'put out there', so if you expect bad things from these games, that's what you will get.

Personally, I 'see' these games each attracting their core audience, and everybody getting to be in a game that is right just for them. If you don't like one, try one of the others, and you will eventually find a home.

Sounds like someone's first beta test.......::::15:: Don't expect a free game to play in a beta, especially on a early beta as Roma Victor is. Take the time to learn and break the game mechanics, make friends, and help push the game into a good direction. Don't just sign up for betas expecting to play a game for free. That's the open public beta stage, not early development stage.

I agree as well. THis poll is not very mmporg friendly. It is begging for a flame war and every game has potential for someone. No one game will ever satisfy everyone. Just not possible.

ThePhoenix : First beta test, hardly. Ive beta'd more then I can remember and I know the game hasnt been released, but this is just am imo type of thread and thats what I was giving. I cant go into detail for obvious reasons, but I will say I think this will be my biggest let down this year.

It's perfectly reasonable to judge a game's core mechanics, while in beta, as being of poor quality.

It's rare when core mechanics are revamped for retail release.

1 - Beta is not going well is total bull....People said that because they expected to find a game that was completed when in actual fact its still in heavy development...hence the reason for an open beta not demo or trial...People misunderstand the point of a beta these days.

2 - World is too large, it might be but think about it, you need a lot of space to seperate 4 factions from each other. Anyway with 4 factions everyone will cover the land that way...maybe a bit thinly but will cover it still the same.

3 - How do you know the devs are running out of time....They haven't even mentioned a release date (and yes MMORPG.com got that release date wrong)....The release date is set to be "When its Ready!"

And thats why you have to admire the developers of this game, because they are a small game developing company just starting out with this game which is still in heavy development but is playable. The game is comming along very nicely, and many of the community including myself really enjoy playing it. These guys deserve a chance since they are not promising a lot (like DnL), dont have unlimited funds and they met what they intended the game to be....for the people who love Ultima! It is all comming together nicely and you should check it out Sir Boris.

I haven't said much of anything regarding DnL ...only pointing out the similarities in the argument. Yeah sure ..if it makes you happy DnL has been rather quiet, too quiet. Feel free to grin now. image Hurray for Mikey! And I am glad that the devs talking and listening to you gives you such validation.

    1) Most do not understand what BETA means, a few do ...frankly you are among the majority. But I am not blaming you or others, the industry (mostly MMO devs) have really muddied the clear cut definition of ALPHA and BETA in regards to commercial software development and volunteer testers.  Professional QA folks understand these issues. Let's face it, the games biz is a great and screwed up industry that has yet to fully mature into an efficient and more balanced business. What I have read here and elsewhere (WarCry) indicate that the devs unleashed their "beta" prematurely and got severely burned.

    2) Your defense of the world being too large sounded well ...like you were not quite convinced yourself. Though I applaud you for trying. I found a link today stating that the "game will occupy approximately 1,000,000 of square kilometers,"

    http://www.mmoginfo.com/articulosjuegos.php?id=495&codi=29

Even Kishe was stunned as he commented after the article - he heard it was 40,000. This from someone who has the inside scoop no less.

    http://www.mmoginfo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=898

And it is already understood that this is a small team ...but perhaps they are ubermen and uberwomen.

    3) Actually there are a number of sources that have indicated a July release. I even found one that listed it was going to be released this past May. But hey things get delayed, it happens. But back to July. I would say that MMORPG got the date right as it was told to them as did several other websites. Either they interviewed the devs directly or received a press release seems the most plausible explanation. Even if every website that listed July as a release date was incorrect ...the developer did not seem to mind as there was never any correction and there has been ample time to request one. However, today when I found the previously mentioned article it did indicate a change in the release date. This game is now scheduled (will be ready that is) for autumn 2005 which is a good thing really ...as they will need all the time they can to fill that 1 million sq. km world.

So it would seem Mikey that my facts are not horribly wrong. You might think about spending some more time doing research on your own and getting some confirmation elsewhere. Just because someone tells you there are WMDs someplace, does not necessarily make it so. And this goes for me as well, ...check out the links, use Google. Stop living the lemming life.

I am not exactly clear on what I should be admiring. I like cheering for the underdog usually, despite what popular opinion is. Should I admire the 1 million square kilometers to be filled and tested in the next 2 or 3 months? Is it that I should be impressed with a group that has never produced a single commercial game (single or multiplayer) before ...and decides to tackle a sizeable MMORPG project without prior experience?

As for checking it out, no thanks. Like most on this site, I will wait until the game is released. But I will keep an eye on how things progress.

I'm currently researching where they got that 1million square KM (not from beta or official FAQ anyways).

I corrected myself that it seems it was ment for July originally but for unforeseen issues they are planning on announcing new date soon...could be autumn but the devs basically refuse to comment before they get the announcement out...anyways, release dates get pushed back in gaming industry...thats nothing new.

and true about that every dev company seems to have their own vision about what alpha and beta means...

Okay, I wasnt going to post anymore on here but there does seem to be some confusion even with Kishe.

At release the map size will be 39K not 1 million. 1 million is the potential. They are making lots and lots of room for expanding the game. But intially there will be only the main continent which is 39K.

DND online ,imo will not live up too the name. I mean , no pvp? c-mon d&d is all about good and evil, being able to make choices however you wish, having good or bad consequences. It seems to be too straight forwards for the name.

I agree Turbine are morons for not putting in PvP in DDO and LotRO. I love how convienent it is that PvP "doesn't fit" into both of those settings according to them. I get the feeling they just don't want to add content for PvP and work on balance. They just want to focus on a great PvE experience, which is nice and all, but I'd rather have a slightly reduced PvE experience for some PvP.

No, D&D is about a few friends sitting down and working toward a common goal, ie recovering relics lost deep within a dungeon or destroying a band of brigands terrorizing a town.  Even when player characters are of opposite alignment (Lawful Good, Chaotic Evil) they still work toward that common goal even though they may want to kill each other.
