BF3 Battlelog

Creslin321Creslin321 Member Posts: 5,359

I got a chance to play BF3 multiplayer for a few hours last night and I wanted to see what everyone thinks of the new "Battlelog" server browser and game launch utility.

It's essentially a browser based utility that takes the place of the "Front end" of the game where you would choose Campaign or Coop or Multiplayer, and then find a server to play on.  It also keeps track of your character etc. etc.

It's getting tons of praise from reviews, but personally I find it annoying.  The Battlelog makes it so you have to quit and relaunch the game every time you want to switch servers or game modes (like from multi to campaign).  Sometimes you'll join a server that keeps playing a map you don't like or you get stuck on a terrible team and you want to switch servers.  The Battlelog adds like a minute and a half to this process because you have to completely close and relaunch the game.

To me, this outweighs any positives it has.  What are your thoughts?

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

Agreed, this is what I found most annoying from the beta. It's a neat way of going about server selection but it feels very cheap to not run off of a title screen within the game. They have already had stat tracking online, so that part isn't any improvement.

I will never know the quirks of Battlelog because I will never give up my right to privacy thru the use of the required origins client. Same reason Steam is not installed on my system.

You had better hurry and unplug your internet then ... nothing you do here is private, everything can and probably is tracked. Why on earth did you subscribe to these forums, they know where you live now!

The privacy concerned gripes about Steam and Origin are absolutely delicious....

    ----

Ontopic :  I'm not having any issues with Battlelog ,  personally I think its FAR better than the system launched with BFBC2 ingame or not. I think the increased load time isn't there though ... remember in BC2 you had to wait for your stats to update after you left a server.

Glad I'm not the only one that feels this way.

I find it very surprising that many people like the Battlelog so much.  I've always found launching a game to be annoying because you have to wait for everything to load up.  But it wasn't that big of a deal because you only did it once per play session.

Now, you have to do it anytime you switch servers or game modes...silly.

I really don't care for battlelog at all, it's frustrating enough with the game itself being buggy with crashes without the problems battlelog has adding to it.

I was debating whether to go with ps3 or pc with bf3.  The biggest problem (and really the only one) with ps3 is that there are no 64 player conquest maps, only upto the 32 player versions are available (24 players max though).  However the PC has many turn offs for me.  First is the origins thing.  I ABSOLUTELY HATE THESE PROGRAMS.  Sorry for cap craziness, but it drives me crazy.  Origins, Steam, Red Door, etc. are so stupid! Get rid of them, most people hate everything about them.  Also PC has the Battlelog, which I also hate.  I don't play Maplestory or Atlantica Online after Nexon went to the browser based launching, it's just simply annoying, and has no real point to it.  I went ahead and got the PS3 version and I haven't seen anything really to complain about.  I fly around in my helicopter and what I thought would be the biggest problem, and why I was so tenative to buying the PS3 version was the population across the maps.  BF3 has some downtime in between battles because of the distance required to travel, however once you reach the frontlines there's no lack of people to shoot.  Having only 24 players in a 32 player zone is actually a relief.  I was at a friend's house earlier today to see if the 64 player was any different, it was.  While there is some more action the problem with the 64 player maps is that there's too many players imo.  He let me play a couple of games and it seemed every corner I ran around there was someone there with a shotgun waiting to blast me in my ****s from prone position lol.  While on PS3 version you can move more freely.  I tried to play helicopter on his computer as well and it seemed like you can only get off 3/4 shots before you get shot down.  On PS3, I can go a whole game and only get shot down twice, usually by jets, but on PC there's so many players that they can spare people to shoot up at helicopters.

Out of the two, I'm actually happy that I picked the PS3 version.  My friend's computer isn't that great, so I couldn't compare graphics really, but from what I saw the PS3 actually had better graphics than his computer could support (I think he has a 295 gtx).

Edit:  I forgot another thing I love about the PS3 version vs the PC.  Vehicle controls.  On PC I hate them, I crashed my helicopter a couple of times because of the controls feel unnatural.  On the PS3, the controls (for helicopter especially) seem natural, I don't even have to look down or think about it when I want my helicopter to do something.

No such thing as too many players in BF games.  If at all possible, IMO, the more the merrier, provided the system and game can support it!  The big maps also enable a wide variety of engagements.  You have still have small groups facing off while there's a huge firefight going on elsewhere in the same map.

BF3 Battlelog - Haven't gotten as many hours in with BF3 yet.  It just doesn't feel right to me.  But I'm sure I'll get a better grasp with more time shooting (and getting plastered).

Hated origins and battlelog, and especially hated all the damn plugins it asked me to install. I loved the game, though.

If ever the day comes (it will probably never come) that they drop that as a requirement, I'll rush out and even buy three copies. But I couldn't stand them enough during beta to keep me from buying the game.

I hate the mess that pc users have to deal with. They say these apps are for protection and pirating. BS, its so they can hit you with ad pop ups and marketing scemes, way to invasive. I do love the game though on the PC (it looks better than any fps I have ever played and the engine runs smooth, even on fully populated large conquest maps). Personally I thnk it has some of the best sound design I have ever heard (if you got a card to hear all of its glory)

Well I can say that I've grown to LOVE the Battlelog.  At first I though it was going to be ghetto or something slapped on.  However, I like the social networking aspect of it where I can see all my friends on Xbox, Ps3, and the gamers I play with on PC and see all of their updates and unlocks and stuff like that.  It makes me feel still "involved" with them even though I opted to buy this for PC.

I don't understand the problems with Origin.  I used Origin 1 time....when I installed the game.  That's it.  Now I just open my browser and go to my bookmark for battlelog and login and away I go.  As for the changing game modes outside of the game:  This is not a problem at all because it actually is really fast to quit the game and load another server.  I definitely prefer having these dedicated servers over having to randomly match me up.

I don't know...I think this is a really good thing.  I think they could have done some other things better (like allow changing of options or keys outside of game)....but overall I would feel empty without the battlelog at this point.

P.S. - I've noticed using FF over Chrome you get extremely higher load speeds with Battlelog.  For anyone who may be using Chrome/Safari and having latency issues.

    Battlelog is annoying.

Just the other day I tried playing co op with a friend but I found out that my antivirus was blocking the invites so we never got to play.  While it was mostly the antivirus software's fault I had to spend a decent amount of time searching google for the answer since the bf3 tech help is useless.  It feels cheep as well like it was some sort of browser game.  And then having to relaunch the game everytime you find a new server.

The game itself is ok minus the squad setup but it's a pain in the ass to use battlelog and origin

Make games you want to play.

So long as there is battlelog I wont be playing the awesomeness that is BF3.  During beta I was almost to the point of pre-ordering after my first few matches in caspian but I was tired and decided to go to bed. The next day I realized just how much I hated battelog so as it stands right now I loved the game but that alone keeps me from playing it.

The sound design is definitely top notch.  The pops of bullets passing.  I remember seeing some other newbie nearby me and we were getting shot at.  I heard the series of pops overhead and I immediately took cover.  The newbie slowed down and then stood there wondering what the hell that sound was.  Needless to say, he eventually died in a hail of bullets to everyone's amusement.

Combine that with the shock of nearby explosions and suppression from enemy fire, with the occasional tracers, and it's a great experience for the game.

Oh, and DICE overdid the tactical lights, especially in broad daylight.  I'm in the service and taclights used on firearms will not do that to you in daylight.  It's a concern during night time, because bright lights in someone's eyes in close proximity will blind and temporarily destroy your night vision (how your eyes have adjusted to the dark / lowlight conditions).  It takes a long time for your eyes to readjust to darkness.

Edit to add:  Oh, not liking Battlelog at all.  Ping filter doesn't work.  It did once today, in several days worth of playing, but now it doesn't anymore.  Useless.  I also get stuck at the loading when I try to manually join a server using the browser.  Only way to get in is Quick Match, which I despise since I have absolutely no control.  Another wonderful "feature" in the server browser is that when you hit Join Game with one of the filtered results, nothing f*cking happens.

Battlelog SUCKS BALLS.  Period.  DICE had perfectly fine, fully functional server browsers in previous BF games, but they f*cked this one up hardcore.

What I hated with passion about Battlefield Bad Company (1/2) was that at the end of the round, You were unable to close the fucking game (ignored ALT+F4 too). You had to wait first until the next map has been loaded. Same with being dead. You couldn't just quit the game right away. You had to wait until you've respawned.

This annoyed the hell out of me. So soley based on that I've got to say: I love the battlelog. Because I can quit the game whenever the heck I want to.

Besides that I was a little irritated at first, too. Though it does make sense actually. All that UI for stats, server browsing and so on is way easier to implement in the browser. Also it's smoother than in-game UI. Plus, and is this is the most important trait: You can do other things without having to switch between a fullscreen application and your desktop while waiting in the queue for a server and also while the game is loading. Though generally the load times feel shorter somehow anyway.

I also hated having to wait until data synchronisation or whatever that was finished after leaving a server. This is gone now as well.

Wow guys, i thought everybody liked it like me. Actually you can just alt+tab the game (at least i can) and choose a different server and it really doesnt make any hinderance in terms of loading time. And i think it is nice to have battlelog as i can log on to it on my mobile computers to see if anything is new, clan stuff etc. I find it extremely useful and helpful, dont really know why you hated it so much.

About the game btw, best FPS ever made in my opinion.

Hmmm I'll have to try that.  Does it not close and reload the game when you alt+tab then choose another server?  Because that's really my biggest gripe with the Battelelog.
