E-Mail offer Rift for 1,99 bucks and 40% sub rabate.

ThorqemadaThorqemada Member UncommonPosts: 1,282

I made the fault to participate in the Beta (well not really bcs it made me know i would not like Rift) and since then i get E-Mail after E-Mail to jump into the game bcs it has never been more the right time than this time...really!
;)

Well, the game is out how many month?
Yet you need to bomb out e-mails offer rabate after rabate getting cheaper every time?
But i tell you what:
1,99 bucks and 40% rabate to the sub for something you dont like is still to much!

And where is the damned link in that e-mail to cancel them?

So... you are angry the game is so cheap and discounted?

Or angry they won't stop sending you e-mails about it?

Every e-mail program/service under the sun has a block sender /black list option. Easy fix...

Well, i chuckle about the offers from the most successfull game after WoW getting desperately cheaper every week.
But yeah, i would like to cancel their advertise mails - but maybe, if they start to give me money...noooo!

I think it's no secret to anyone not playing Rift anymore (and even a few playing) that they are losing subs. Everyone knows that because a new sale every week, a new trial every other week, vet rewards even if you've never played, CE mounts sold for cash, servers still closing weekly into husks.. Rift is losing pace. That place is like Crazy Eddie up in there, and we know how that turned out.

That is not to say the game is dead. But things aren't going well when your game is barely eight months old and you're pumping this many deals out weekly.

Rift is an okay game for sure, but it's coming up against really hard times. I'm pretty sure the people at Trion aren't as dumb as some of their troll fans (not all the fans) and they know SWTOR and GW2 among other games, are going to bite a chunk out of Rift's ass very shortly.

So wait, because a game wants to advertise vigorously, it's a bad thing? I seem to remember WAR was in the same boat, but they didn't spend nearly as much on advertisements when they were starting to slip.

I'm not saying Rift is perfect and doing 110%, but to hate a company for advertising their product trying to make more sales? I just don't understand it.

    Agreed.

Rift (or any game) should advertise as heavily as they need to advertise to keep their base up and replace those that leave.

But just think of the irony:

Rift is a game barely eight months old where everyone claims they have ALLLLLLL these subs but yet it advertises like the Trion just lost the lease on their building while...

WoW is a game eight YEARS old and everyone says they've lost ALLLLLL these subs and they rarely advertise at all.

    Ironic, right?

I dunno about the WoW thing. I see ads for WoW on almost every other site now. I'm getting pretty annoyed by the "FREE IS GOOD" ad with the goblin and gnome using /dance.

Tis the season for great deals man.

Look how many MMO's went F2P and dropping their sub rates.  Now look at the calendar.  Now look at the release dates of the two most anticipated MMO's in the last year.

    Ya gettin what I'm sayin?

This offer is a lie and has been reported... at least it proves the importance Rift really has to him =P

Hehe I saw that ad too. It's always the same one, hehe. Just that one ad though so it's kind of proves the point. Nothing really agressive just one small ad.

I guess for a eight year old game with 10 million or so subs, they have to push the same goblin out. People rotate out of that game more than anything else since it's a dated game.

Still, it's not a good sign for Rift to have as many ads and deals flying around as a game that dated imo.

Yea I knew it was BS soon as I read the header, RIFT is actually up on subs and the servers are doing awesome. We are getting more players almost every day, and even the CEO of Blizzard has publically acknowledged Trion is doing everything right and Rift is the first game ever to make Blizzard sit up and take notice.

It's mostly the same, but yeah. I get where you're going at with that. It's not huge, but it's still aggresive if I see it on at least half the sites I visit =/.

I wouldn't say Ads are a bad sign, but tons of deals more so. But, as it seems, we have all been trolled.

While I believe subs are up, I also believe it's temporary due to the newest content release.

yeah, so, I got this email as well, trashed it cause I have no interest in Rift, it's not $1.99, but maybe he's refering to another currency value? Anyways, this is what I recieved, all links direct to Trions website, of course.

Yes it was 4.99 not the 1.99, maybe different currency?

WoW is a game eight YEARS old and everyone says they've lost ALLLLLL these subs and they rarely advertise at all.

I don't know WoW has TV commercials, I get emails from them almost quarterly to come back for free for 7 days to see the changes, banner ads on virtually any gaming site, and there was a free trial that came with my G13.

But really, when did advertising become a measure of someone's success.  FF11, UO, and EQ are still running and don't advertise at all and certainly have had fewer subscriptions.  On the other hand Coca Cola, Pepsi, Doritos, Subway, and McDonalds are certainly not "doomed" but yet they advertise all over the place :D

i just went back to rift..i,m in the UK .game cost me £4.99.then i had to pay for sub after so tal was about £13..worth it imo.good game and i am having fun.my wife has an account and now i do.

  • UhwopUhwop Member UncommonPosts: 1,791

I can buy WoW, at best buy for $1.99.  Don't see what the big deal is.

Plus I get emails from just about every MMO I've played, offering me some sort of deal to come back.  Good god, the free to play ones are the most aggresive.  And I swear these companies know when I've uninstalled a game, because it seems like I get an email to come to a game 5 minutes after I uninstal it.

well i never understood the "omg they have an offer they must losing subs"

in RIFTS case what they want to do is keep subs and what better way of showing hte game and having subs?by making the game more accesible...

if you want a good add look at WoW

the game have more that 8 mill players(west and east)it makes more that $1 billion a year and they decided that they want to keep their players so the offer D3 for free if you sub with them for a year...

they are giving you a game that will cost 60 bucks free if you pay for a monthly fee which is cheaper by the month to month offer...

But if a smaller company wana do something like that...of course they are loosing subs.and the end is near for them.

I used to work for a truck rental company.  One year they unvield a new advertising campaign that would run over the spring and summer.  I asked, "why are you doing it when we're busy.  Why not advertise over the winter when we're slower and could use more business."

The response?  You don't advertise during slow periods because you don't generate enough revenue to make the advertising worthwhile.  You get more business when you're busy through advertising, which in itself pays for the advets, and generates more revenue.

WoW didn't do TV commercials when they had fewer subs, they did it when they had more subs.  There's a better chance someone who plays WoW will see the add, and they'll be sitting there with someone who doesn't play.  The person who plays may just point out that they play that game, and the person who doesn't play may be like, "oh yeah?  Is it any good?"  and they'll get a yes from the other person.

Like they say, you need money to make money.  Adverts are the same way.  You advertise when you're up to maximise it's effectiveness.

If a product isn't already making money, it's unlikely that advertising is going to make you much more.  Advertising is never the reason you don't make money, it's how you make MORE money.  If you're already losing money, it's usually because your product isn't any good.
