APB: Reloaded: Saving the Game

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

GamersFirst CEO Bjorn Book Larsson is the subject of a comprehensive new interview at GamesIndustry.biz covering APB Reloaded. In it, Larsson talks about the process the company went through to "save APB" after it went into receivership last year.

Larsson details how GamersFirst was following a Realtime Studios employee blog and discovered how dire the situation was for the ailing company and its flagship game, All Points Bulletin. From there, the interview focuses on the acquisition of the IP, fine tuning the game's balance, responding to the community, customer engagement and more. It's a terrific read!

well in my opinion, i dont care what else they do to the game, as long as the money being made from the game is being spent to, not just ban, but rather prevent the hackers from even running the game.  i mean the hackers have to run a secondary program or something in order for the hack to take place, so with that being the case, why not just put something in the game files where if something else is running other than what is suppose to, booted off immediately.  the software can decipher it, if it is in there to decipher.  i know it all takes money and time, so do nothing else and focus on this one thing.  accomplish this one thing, everything else is a piece of cake.

If it would be that simple then there wouldn't be quite a bit of cheating in (almost) all FPS games. They are working on hardware-blocking cheaters meaning that the computer of people that were caught get locked out of the game in some way. That's as good as it will get in the near future, I guess.

Personally I'm positively surprised by how G1 deals with cheaters. If you compare that with what RTW did or rather didn't do then that's a very big improvement.

As most of us suspected, the hackers ruined this game.  Despite the bans, cheating still is rampant in this game.

A game has to be written from the start to deal with hackers, it is extremely hard to add it later.

they "saved" APB  about as much as a lifeguard "saves"  a victim  by holding their head under water.
