I'm in beta. I'm not worried about spoilers because people lie and it never plays out the way you think it does. My current problem is "do I want to continue to beta and spoil more things for myself or do I want to end the beta for myself and wait for release".

That was the exact reason I never tried to get into beta.
The only game recently that I can think of that someone ruined for me was Red Dead Redemption. The title had only been out a week or two, and someone posted the ending in a general thread. Got so pizzed about it I dropped playing the game for about 8 months. When I went back to play, I realized how great a game I missed out on....even took in some MP where I met some good folks.
I bet MP would of been even better the first 6 months.
I dont know what sick fascination it is that makes some folks wanna ruin anothers good times. Once TOR launches, I intend to do by best not to read any spoiler info.
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.
As the free roaming "worlds" gradually vanish from MMO's and become ancient relics, to be replaced by the new breed of guided story telling MMO's, this is what you get. Online single player/co-op games will always have this issue. Why is this a shocking revelation to anyone?

Heh, yeah, I'm debating dropping beta and releasing the key so someone else can use it. I don't want to spoil more of it for myself. Its just been really hard to actually do it.
I am not concerned about spoilers. 22 years of extensive PC gaming developed some sort of plot premonition in me, so I usually see how this plot is similar to another one and not over-impressed with quite predictable endings, while still being interested in experiencing the plot. E.g. I am totally unimpressed by the new Deus Ex endings since they are so much like in previous series. And I can't think of anything really unexpected after the first 2 SWTOR games... probably you would turn out to be someone else in the past :-) Your closest ally would bertray you... so what? The story, the decisions and my character personality is what I am after untill I hit level cap and you can't take that from me by putting some extra info on the net.
You should always automatically assume that players will figure out, and post how all game systems work, and that includes the story. Post-launch, there will be dozens of sights up I am sure that will have storyline walkthroughs. All you can really do is avoid them.
Well...all I care about is the pvp and can't stand the idea of being forced to do the quests to level. I respect that there are people who want to quest, and thats fine...but I can't stand the idea of the story line...I would rather grind my toon to max and then pvp. That said, i'll keep my chat on, and I'll be googling information for the fastest way to breeze through the stories to get max...you others speedsters PLEASE post as you find quick ways to level.

You remember the partial lift of the NDA for the Press?
You remember your article of Trooper Beta Impresions?
I didn't read it. ^_^
I'm on the same boat. I know it's going to be impossible to block out every single story arc, but at least, i will keep the trooper (my first toon) away from as many spoilers as I can. I'll be on my brother's old WoW guild that is moving to SWTOR. Decent bunch of guys. So i take that the NO SPOILERS policy will be enforced there. I HOPE.

Puzzling thing about this article is it is written by an online gaming journalist. MMORPG might as well just stick to game reviewing by the logic of this topic. Most sensible people know how to dodge information on the web they don't want to encounter.
I don't see a problem with TOR being prone to spoilers. Why? Because unlike a movie or book, the story only plays out with input from the player. But with both movies and books the story are already predetermined. There is no changing things up.
Who are your companions? Which way does your moral compass point? These are all determing factors when faced with choosing which path you take when the dialect wheel.
So unless you want to know how things would have panned out if you had chosen A or C instead of B, I think your personalized outcome will still be safe. Besides, it's safe to assume that BW has thought this thing through and put in choices that pertain to morality rather than "who dunnit".
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
Well... It all depends on how serious you are. You could take two months off of work, isolate your self socially (no friends who are playing, no game site internet etc.). Close down all chat options that its possible to close, and do as much solo as you can. Other than that, you are simply going to have to deal with some spoilers. Its simply the nature of the beast as it were.
I realize that it will be impossible to stay spoiler free, and that's the attitude I'll dive in with. Also, I'm bound to hear other classes stories at some point, I'm not going to turn off all the chats and be guild-free for 3 years just to experience all the classes without spoilers.
Nah, there will be so much spoilers everywhere that I wont even remember 5 minutes later what class they involved or what was even talked about It's great that this game has actual story, but it certainly is not everything to me, and I dont mind if I know pieces about the story of my own class.
I love to watch good movies even if I got spoiled on the story before I begun to watch it. I think TOR will be much like that.
I myself, never thought of this as a problem because me, it's the gameplay that gets you their that makes the experience of seeing the cutscene so much great. For example: I watched all of command and couquer cutscenes online. Never played the game in my life. After seeing them, it made me want to play it.
Spoilers don't ruin a game. They make you wonder if they are true or not. You can turn off your chat, block and mute. Why? Because your scare of being disappointed? You can only be disappointed if you had expectations in the first place.
Here, I can 100% agree with everything from the article! I too am very concerned about being spoiled, and I already heard two story things I REALLY did not want to know. It is good this forum will go strong on spoilers, and I wish Bioware would enforce such a strong policy in public chat as well.
I guess for the first time ever, I too gonna shut down public chat in the first weeks.
People don't ask questions to get answers - they ask questions to show how smart they are. - Dogbert
Shutting down general chat is going to be my way of avoiding spoilers as well. Since I am playing with a few friends, we can do the flashpoints together.
In our guild Ventrillo server we have a 'quiet' room where no talking is allowed. It is only there to have a place to be without being bothered, but quick access to group chat. That way, members that are enjoing the story can enjoy the story. There is nothing worse than babbling when a cut-scene starts up
Michael, I understand how you feel and I will be careful not to test your resolve to use that "banhammer". =P The simple fact is, however, that there will be lots of people doing just what you've described. I was planning on turning off chat in-game the moment I fully got my first character logged in. And I intend to avoid the Official forums.
At least now I know that I can come here and not expect to be bombarded with it. For that I am most grateful.
Damn some of you guys take this game way too seriously for my tastes. I mean, this is a video game we are talking about here. It's probably not going to have some crazy twist. Maybe I could care less about spoilers because I am not that excited about this game, or maybe it's because I prefer to make my own story instead of being thrusted into one made by someone else (blah blah Bioware lets you choose your story blah blah....no).
Yeah and all this "I am not interacting with anyone until I get to end game!" PEOPLE, it's an online multiplayer game, I think you want the single player rpgs.
Eh whatever, play the game how you want, don't care either way. Some of these comments just sound silly to me
I think this guy needs some sleep since he is over thinking the issue that you can't control which is true if someone is gonna spoil something there is always a way but up to the people to listen or ignore which is up to them. So take a chill pill and relax a bit i know you're working hard on the game but jeez don't go crazy on us now.

I don't know why so many people find that it matters.
Even in watching sports people are obsessed with not knowing the result before the watch it.
IMO it really makes no difference. Knowing and actually doing are two different things.
