I quit last april and I was wondering if the game has changed enough for me to come back. I was a lvl 50 warrior, had the best gear outside of greenscale, did raids for a month until i got tired of cancelling real world plans because of my scheduled weekly raids. I also remember getting extremely burned out from instanced pvp... there was no more excitement in it, it was basically just gear grind. So yeah... have they made endgame outside of raids any better? have they made pvp better? is there anything new to do? I was also wondering if i should start a new character because warriors have been completely dismembered since april. Thanks in advance.

Well, they have the "Play Rift for Free" thing so it's probably worth to try if you're curious about it. Can't hurt so jump back on your 50 warrior and give it a shot.
As far as Warriors go, I saw this funny thread on the Rift boards where this guy said "Rift Review", and then he linked to this YouTube vid here:
"Rift Review as a lvl 50 Warrior at patch 1.5"
to give his opinion of what he thinks Warriors are in the game now video-wise.
It's worth a looksie because it's pretty hilarious and the comments he makes are priceless, but I'd say if it doesn't cost you anything you don't have anything to lose.

hmmz stuff to do outside of raid to me would be like housing or mini games which are not in the game as of yet. PvP is still warfront based and a new mechanic called pvp rifts..basically last man standing type deal.
They are pushing raid gear to be earned via Rifts at a quality that you would see if you raided.
Total guess would 90% of the qq about Rift is caused by pvp, so take from that what you will. PvE they are entering god mode territory with the upcoming 1.6 patch looking more like an expansion then a content update.
Rift is an odd game. The first time I leveled a character I found the amount of character build choices that you have in the game actually creates problems at first. I found myself trying to "mimic" what I thought was a good build from other games Ive played and in the end it didnt really pan out. It takes allot of experimenting to find a build that works for any of the callings.
So your warrior is probably still fine you just have to spend some time finding a build that works now. As I know from personal experience its totally possible to build what you think is a great class on paper but in reality is useless in game.
I played Rift in beta and just could not get into it. The game just felt like I was playing WoW or EQ2 all over again and I was not looking for either of those games. Needless to say I did not buy it at launch, but 2 weeks ago they had it on sell for $5 so I figured I would give it another shot.
I have been pleasantly surprised by how much work Trion has put into the game and how much better it plays since my beta experience. It still has many similarities to WoW and you can tell Hartsman spent a long time with EQ2, but I find myself really enjoying Rift now.
I'm sure part of me liking Rift so much is due to being let down with TOR beta, but I would definitely recommend that anyone who tried Rift at launch and didnt care for it should try it again now...for free....and see how much it has changed.
If the Raid grind and Instanced PvP grind is what made you quit then I doubt the new features are enough to keep you from quickly unsubbing again. Just forget about Rift and wait for a game that doesn't focus on those things.
My view Rift is what people were hoping EQ2 could have been if Sony put any money into it. Sony was too scared to challenge Blizzard directly like Trion apparently has no issue doing., so they put out raiding content even when people are obssesed that Blizzard is the only raid developer out right now.
It worked because Blizzard is now copying Rift raids
I also left Rift in april/may and resubscribed recently, about 5 weeks ago...
There are a few new things which might entertain you temporarily but nothing truly game-changing.
1) PvP rifts - basically you can open a special type of rift and carry stones to a pad nearby. Your goal is to carry 35 of these stones before time runs out. Given distances and timer, you need about 4 people to complete the rift even if you encounter no opposition. The goal of the other faction is to kill stone carriers and to destroy the pvp rift (by killing structures at the rift).
PvP rifts can be fun because they are finally some open-world pvp objectives so you get fights in other environment than WFs. Biggest issue with pvp rifts is sometimes you will meet little to no opposition and in that case PvP rift becomes boring, zero-challenge PvE encounter. This is highly dependend on the shard you play on, ofc.
2) PvP dailies - these are PvE quests, always all of them in one of the three endgame areas (IPP, SM, SS). These quests give some prestige/favor so they attract PvPers and, obviously, they take place in the same place for both factions which results in small skirmishes over objectives. Quite fun at times.
3) Planar attunement system - this is rift's answer to character progression after level cap. In essence, it is a huge grind for marginal bonuses. It's nothing special and it's fairly slow but it still makes various activities awarding xp a bit more meaningful for people at level cap, since you actually get *something* out of it.
4) Class changes - a lot has changed since april and your warrior might not be the own-'em-all he used to be then. It may turn you off but you might as well like the challenge of coming up with new builds. Currently, rogue-resistant builds are highly recommended :-).
5) Zone events now give tokens for which you can get good planar essences. It means it's actually worth spending some time in world events.
6) More PvP change:. Max rank is now 8. And it's not only a number since there is a rather significant difference between combat effectiveness of r6 and r8 characters.
7) One new WF, weekend WF boost (more favor.prestige), sometimes alternative WF modes (same WFs with different objectives).
I think the new stuff since april is worth at least one month of subscribtion for a gamer who's about...

on the casual-hardcore scale.
Have fun.

They copy each other, and nothing wrong with that really.
If they take things the other has which work, I don't see much wrong with that. EQ2 had plenty of dungeons and raids so I'm not sure what you mean with your statement.
Do you know how much EQ2 cost to make? Seems like Sony put quite a bit into it.. again very curious comments.

Just put EQ2 up next to WoW graphics wise and it just does not compare. It seems as WoW has been somewhat upgrading throughout the yeard EQ2 has been left in the dust. Playing Rift is like play whatb EQ2 should have been with some WAR mixed in.
MMos aren't just about graphics, thank God.
WoW was made to run on a wide variety of computers whereas EQ2 was not. Sony wanted to upgrade it's look decidedly over EQ1 because they were limited back then. EQ2 intentionally wanted more "lifelike" graphics; WoW never was going for that look. That's hardly worthy of a comparision.
Besides, not really talking about "graphics", are we? If that's the case we can say "look at Rift and look at AoC" or "look at Rift and look at FFXIV". Look at Rift's armor models (graphics). bland and looks like they were designed by a mental patient. One large shoulder pad on one side and nothing. One huge empty shield. On plain looking sword as a epic drop. But the game plays better than just it's graphics.
We're talking about Rift taking things from WoW as good ideas and using them (or at least you were) and WoW later doing the same. Rift stole first from WoW so I don't see what the problem is here really... if it's good for the game, it's good for the game.

thanks for the feedback guys. i am starting to get a better picture of what rift is like nowadays.
What about about pugging? are there any new instances to pug? can you still get decent gear from pugged instances or has everything shifted to raids and rifts?

If you want to try something different, try something like Global Agenda or hold out for TOR. Most likely there will be a flood of people leaving wow soon and looking for new MMOs, due to the next expansion looking crap.
It is actually very good game. Made by very good company that really invests and listens to players.
But...
It is a game based on everything MMO is and was in this past years since 2004 WOW invasion.
And many of us (people that played MMOs) just had enough.
Its like eating exactly same meal you ate every day for years, just wrapped in new and shinier wrapper.
Only makes you want to puke.
Problem is
SWTOR will be the same.
You can actually get Tier 1 Raid loot from doing Master Mode Dungeons (only 1 available now), but they aren't really puggable. Require some actual team co-ordination and not something you'd want to do with people who don't chat. But really, Rift is a Hardcore Raiding game; Raid rifts, 10-man raids, 20-man raids. It's all about raiding, though a lot of the Hardcore raiders quit because Hammerknell was a bit too tough/buggy for them.
