I held off buying this game because of being skint and being wary of an SOE developed game and that turned out to be a good move but now its Freemium I had no barrier to give it a spin and.....
I'm very disappointed as a DC fan with the character customisation, skill sets, graphics are console quality so look rather poor on my PC, controls and movement are clunky, NPC's look and move in awkward ways, the starter missions are just click til' you win with no real skill involved or tutorial, overall my hour or so in game was such a laclustre experience I couldn't take it anymore. I can really understand why people left this game in droves and if the lack of content that was highlighted at launch is still an issue I cannot see this Freemium ship sailing anywhere other than into mediocre harbour. I'll just stick with my New 52 comics (well not all of them) to get a great Super Hero fix with Sinestro a Green Lantern again and Hal Jordan as his bitch OH! yeah baby .
But am I missing something?

It is light on content. There is more there now with a new raid and new DLC coming this year. They added Light and now lightning is coming. They will add a 3rd tanking power I guess around March. Next set of raids is the Amazon Island...I can't think of the name right now.
Now its free, so you can hop in and just have fun for a bit here and there. The initial character creator is light but just go around collecting styles and fiddle with the wardrobe. You can get a lot of variety for your character. I feel that DCUO is not as varried as Champions but your character can look more imposing than a Champions. I donno. I like it.
You don't get DLC free, btw unless you sub. But everything else is free.
from what i,ve seen so far it's quite fun,but i,m at lower lvl atm.grouped up once or twice....not sure about how much content there is cos i,m a slow leveler..but all in all my impression is that its a good fun game.i never understand peeps rushing to max lvl .especially if they know its short on content..but thats just me and the way i play mmo's i guess.i,m also still strugling a bit with the ui..although i've seen worse.another way to putr this is that i have subbed to a lot worse games than this.i have no lag issues at all..d/load was very quick.seriously thinking of subing to game..i guess i would sub nps if there was crafting or something along those lines, but there is nothing like that.thats why i,m not quite sure yet.
Experience has been pleasent for me so far, decent time waster until other games release. On top of that I can get my girl in the game with me on her PS3 that's a huge plus.

It's pretty sweet. Graphics are very nicely done. Fighting style is excellent. Leveling up has been very entertaining.
I dont really care for the graphical argument between console and PC.
So what Im asking is, does the game play better with a controller or with a mouse and keyboard? Im assuming a mouse and keyboard. Just wondering if and when I decide to try this, I should bother downloading for the PS3 or my PC.
My perception is that the only new feature I was able to experience was that new "CRASHING" feature that shuts down the client. I'll give it another go tonight.
PvP is quite fun, even if I am at the low levels where you can only spam 2-3 attacks. Acrobatics is a fun movement power (though they take many liberties with the physics, more like Wall Crawling with Super Leap), but disappointed there aren't more movement powers like teleportation.
Character creator is clunky, but adequate. Not even a tenth of the variety or customization of CoH and CO, but there is decent variety.
Graphics are amazing. I really enjoy the art style and graphics. Gotham looks dark and haunting, a grim and brooding shadow. My character looks streamlined and articulate, with great reflection off the skins. Animation was smooth and fluid.
Controls are...eh. I don't like the WASD movement, I prefer mouse-move as it frees up my hand for skill triggers. I'll play around with the key bindings and see if I can get it more to my liking.
Loved the world PvP. Seven of us all ganging up on a higher level ganker-hero and sometimes took them out. For one on one encounters I killed a few, and got beaten by a few. Unsure how to change my role (dps, tank, controller, healer) on the fly, so maybe I would have survived more of those if I switched to tank, for instance. There was one incident where six of us were slowly whittling down a high level hero. We got her down to about half a centimeter of health, and then the damage just stopped doing anything to her at all. Shortly after that the servers crashed so maybe that had something to do with it.
I do wish the items I find in the world could be set to the style I originally made for this character. First piece of gear I received altered me chest piece. It retained the colors, but not the style. I suppose the point is to track down different styles of gear and have a huge wardrobe taking up your inventory/vault space.
All in all, had lots of fun, looking forward to playing more tonight.
Seems pretty solid on the PC to me, I haven't tried on PS3 yet TOR beta was up again so I of course have played that since. I'll try and give it a go on the PS3 today at some point, if no one has responded here I'll give my impression.

My impression: It sucks
The tutorial part of the game was nicely done. The graphics are nice, and I didn't have any technical problems. The combat isn't as good as Vindictus, but it's not bad either. Medicore. What killed the game for me, was that after being treated with cinematics sequences about Brainiac trying to take over earth in tutorial, in the game I got a short explanation like "Intelligent monkeys led by prime ape are trying to take over the world. Go to beach and kill 15 monkeys, 10 monkey leaders, and destroy 10 monkey objects lying on that beach". The combat wasn't so good, that I'd want to grind hour after hour when I felt no attachment to the story and no desire to actually defeat the prime ape. I quit after a few quests.
You need to go to "style" options, where you can lock your appearance with any gear you want, including the original
Thank you! There's much about the game I'm still discovering.
I enjoy it as a light, action game to play once in a while.
I keep hoping they'll add more powers as time goes on.
The missions I enjoy the most are the Mentor specific missions.
The Joker is quite insane. I always like his dialogue.
As far as content goes: I'm not sure yet. This was only my second night, so I have
not made it very far. (Only level 6)
Over all, I think I'll like playing once or twice a week. I'm not always in the mood
for anything in depth.
It's not about fighting, it's about balance. It's not about enlightenment, it's about balance. It's not about balance.
Not much of a comics fan are you...?
There is a ton of story to get in to (altho they could have paced it out a lot better since much of it comes form green blue and gold markers that you have to click) and if you read it a bit more careful you would soon see how it connects.
Also you get nice little cut scenes about the baddies and other lore stuff after you beat the boss... But i guess you could not be botherd to do that.
This have been a good conversation
I downloaded it for PS3 yesterday while I was at work.
First impressions? It seems like it has some bugs, I had issues with my chat window moving around ever so slightly when I would go into movement mode. Almost like it was vibrating.
On screen text can be difficult to read if you don't have an HDTV with a nice picture. I have an older Sony Wega, and the game looked great, but text required me to fiddle with my picture settings to get it to a barely readable state.
The game itself seems like a good action title, with multiplayer elements and an open world. Combat flowed nicely, I chose Martial Arts as my powerset and Acrobatics as my movement power. Both mesh very well together, and running up the side of a wall and then hanging there, before you leap down in death-from-above fashion and beat the living hell out of someone, is pretty damn cool.
Character creation didn't have as many options as I had hoped, definitely not the strong point of the game. There were only a few types of body styles, and the big hulking ones look very odd. I'm not sure if Subscribers or Premium players get more options during creation, if yes then I can't really form a sound judgment on this aspect of the game until I get access to all the options available. If no, then character creation definitely seems slightly lackluster to me.
I did end up with a character that looked decent, but my concern at the moment is that there will quite possibly be other players with my identical costume. That is abit of an immersion breaker, imho.
Choosing a name took ages, most of the good ones are taken, which is usually par for the course with MMOs unless you get in on the ground floor when the game launches.
All in all, I'd give the game (what I have experienced so far) about a 6/10.
It's a fun experience, that could use some improvements to really get it to the point where it feels like a fully fleshed out heroes and villains themed MMORPG.
Well all I can say is where are all the problems I read about this game the UI, Character customization and fast lvling this plays better then most games I have played and wish more companys would do combat like this its fun unlike tab target cooldown and repeat. Between that and the UI and graphics this games good no offnce to anyone in CoH/CO I play those I know there good for making characters but if they had controls like this for combat I wouldn't be playing this I would be playing them. The Controls on this ethier with controler or keyboard and mouse are great and play out fast and make the you feel like a super hero.
I have tried most power types and weapon combos till lvl 10 or higher depending and they are cool lots of different play styles and there fun. Done most of the Hero questing from each hero like Superman, Batman, Wonderwoman and they play out the same some but the stories for each are so much different that they feel there own. The Villian side only done Joker and Lex but can't wait to try Circes. And yes I am a comic fan for most heros even Marvel ones and don't feel like I am one of them I feel like my characters are my own.
The games good have't done end game yet been playing the game out to see what I like more for me. PvP in this ethier in the PvP server or in arenas is fun what I have played of course you have the gankers but they just slow you down a bit but get a grp and take them down and they will most likely leave you alone after a bit. The rest of the game so far from finding gear to quests are fun to little on the insane side when your fighting 10 mobs at once in the citys but the instances I have done are fun even the halloween ones fun.
Final the game has an easy to learn controls, combat flows really well and the UI is no where near as bad as some of the other games out there even AoC was to have hard controls but once you learn it its not hard. I love th combos you can do tho. Well the games worth enough to me to almost sub but wont cause the sub game for me has been over for almost 5 years now I have subbed but not for more then a few months on some new games but thats my choice I like the unlimited free trials as some call it more but this is a good game. My advice to those who do like it pay $5 get premium then if you like it get the sub just dont keep it going if you quit.

What do you want from SOE, they are hacks
I really like the gameplay, and the ability to get a legendary mentor, say like batman, or lex luthor. Also, while I didn't really care for the mouse look perspective, I do like the little mini challenges in the game, most of which you actually have to have mouse look.,...lol.....
The only issue I have had so far, and I am not sure if there is a way around this or not, but I seem to have hit a brick wall in my missions in which I need at least a partner if not a group to go further. And yes I know its an MMO and such but it's kind of a pai nwhen the only thing I can find to do requires a group or grinding, and I am only level 8...
Bane is pretty tough on the hero side. Nightwing is nearly useless. On the villian side he is a bit easier because Killer Croc is much better at weathering his attacks but with some of the classes I had to get help also.
I'om on the villian side and doing the Raven mission in the police center. I strongarmed my way past the first two heroes, but Cyborg makes me his prison lover.
Nope. Thats pretty much it. They failed us. Again. What do you expect... it's a Sony!

Game is decent but very unpolished in many ways. Its got some fun actiony stuff to it.
That is the way it was at release and it still is that way. The freemium is fairly decent in that you get most of the fun parts and really only pay if you really want to power game it or something.
I love the way this feels to play. It's very fluid and responsive. I also like the graphics. On those two things (very important things to me), it beats CO hands down. So what I guess I'm saying is thumbs up on the engine, Sony.
Now, if I could just get back into game tonight, I might get to check out a bit of the content beyond the starting tutorial area and the first quest after it. It was also not fun making a second character to try the bow and then having to remake her fifteen times before I beat the surprise crash. But such is to be expected the first weekend a game goes free to play. I really should know better than to keep trying to get back in!
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.

Its the optomist in me Elikal I like to give everyone a second chance to see if they can redeem themselves more fool me eh! though at least there are some companies out there than can produce a great game out of the wonderfully rich DCU I suggest people pick up Batman Arkham Asylum and City to see how its done or better yet buy an actual comic The Flash and Green Lantern are rather good at them moment.

It's really fun. I don't understand why so many people hate it or talk shit about it. Well we all have different tastes and for me this game is lots of fun to play.
