EA is dumb. Last time they had me as a customer is when they sunsetted EnB. At least SoE would have kept it on maintenance mode until the power bill was more than the subs they were getting.
It is very common for console titles to be available to pirates 1 week before launch. There is more piracy on consoles than we're led to believe. It is truly a problem that plagues every form of media on nearly every platform.
But this is something the "lol only pC gamers pirates!" crowd either ignore or deflect.
I think the sad part is from what I've notice X360 games get released a lot earlier than PC games, though that's probably due to the total lack of protection that the 360 has.

Nah, that's Micro$oft throwing money to get an exclusive or to ensure an earlier release on their platform.
Another wonderful one is that developers treat the PC platform as the red-headed step-child. They release half-a$$ ports, or better yet, half-a$$ ports several months or even a year later. Remember how long it took to get Halo games on the PC?
"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." The best way to stop piracy is make your game an MMO... or at least follow the payment model.
Take SWTOR for instance. That easily could be 3 or 4 single player RPGs, but by adding some MMO components to the game they not only eliminate all piracy, they actually can charge $15 a month to their customers who already bought the game.
Eventually all top tier games, even single player games. will be subscription based and require server side data to play as it is the only real way to eliminate piracy. We saw the beginning of this with Ubisofts games like Assassins Creed 2 and it's only going to spread. And once the subscription model is established for top tier games it will become the norm.

Too true.
I don't like how I dump like $80 a game and then it seems like everyone else enjoys it for free. Call me a sucker, but I refuse to pirate games. I don't have that "i buy games" superiority, either - that shit pisses me off almost as much.
ghetteobooste did have a point, though. Game companies aren't gonna stand around and wait for the day when a game gets released and no one drops a dime on it. But hackers and pirates are no slouches, either. It's gonna be either fun or costly to watch their battle unfold.

Your idea reminds me of one of the most asanine DRM methods: Constant internet connection required, even if it's a single player game. UbiSoft likes to do this. If the company's server is having problems, tough sh*t. If you have 'net access / connection issues, tough sh*t.

It was true for the old Nintendo consoles that used special cassettes (or at least almost true) but since consoles started with CDs there have been piracy for them as well.

You can buy any console games for $2 in malaysia
When I was stationed in Korea I managed to pick up Halo 2 when it was leaked. That was a good weekend.

But it is pretty rare compared to the PC anyways.
