EVE Online, simply put, is whatever you make it.

It is difficult to shed some light on a game that is as complex as EVE Online. Maybe if you ask some specific questions, people would be more obliged to respond to your thread.

Eve is the mmorpg to end all mmorpgs. Its one of those mmorpgs wich people keep comming back to.

Truly a mmorg for adults. It has a build in kiddie-filter, namely a steep learning curve. All the kids that try eve log out after 10 minutes when they realize there are no goblins to kill. Its deeper, richer and more complex then all mmorpgs put together and at the same time one of the most beautiful games out there. This doesnt come for free though, you need patience and lots of it to truly enjoy eve to its full potential.

Playing EVE doesn't make you mature or even patient. EVE doesn't have levels like other games, but it carries every bit of repetitive behavior with it by making PvP the goal of the game, and a fun goal. The bad part being you have to mine or kill NPCs, exremely boring tasks, over and over in order to gain enough money to do PvP. I loved the skill system, found making money easy, I just thought I could have more fun with other games rather than spend my time going from one system to the next trading or shooting lifeless bots or circling an asteroid with many other asteroid circling people. heh

Pizzaboy , get the 14 day trial and check for your self :) , the new tutorials will get you to learn the game as fast as possible (as long as you are not an EQ kid) , plus you wont suffer the need to adapt after the recent major patch (NewWorldOrder)

I have no idea if thats correct or not (I haven't played it) but I found that very amusing ::::39:: .
And for the person that said they liked MU Online, I recently tried it. What the hell? I got dropped into the game, in a town with tons of people all selling stuff. I walked outside the city. No map, no skills, it seems although I believe there was a 3-slotted action bar. I walked around, found a spider, killed it. It dropped some form of currency which I picked up. Walked around more, find skeleton, skeleton more powerful than me, run away. Thats weird, I thought. The skeleton isn't chasing me. I thought it was a bug, so I went back to it. WHACK! ::::02::.

And I think some monsters do chase you, but they do it at a very slow place, and some just don't chase at all.

Very true. The players control the minerals, the minerals control the universe. It's about as free form a game as you are likely to find, the npc involvement is very minimal, apart from rat hunting and missions everything is player versus player (in terms of manufacturing, mining, trading etc.), making for quite possibly the most dynamic economy of any mmo.

    ---sig---

PvE in general is pretty lame, if you think long and hard about it. You are spending your time beating a severely gimped AI that would lose to a well trained monkey. Best not to think too long and hard why you are wasting time playing games in general actually...

Well, Eve is way better than MU. The thing with mu, is that there are 2 things ::::06:: . It depends on the server you are playing on. If you play on the original server, or if you'd try it, better dont, or do only if you are looking for a server that will eat your free time. You can also play on smaller servers. Servers that have at least +50% xp, because it is easier, and sometimes you can have better fun. I saw a post with somebody that claimed that you cant find your party . just press P and see their coordinates :D . Anyway, mu is boring, and everybody is desperate or addicted to making lvl's. There are better games than mu. Even mario

EVE-online is an online game world where thousands of players can interact together in the same game world.

So far the most online users has been up to almost 15,000 online at one time.

In EVE you are basically a person inside a pod, you can buy all kinds of spaceships and equipment for them and do a number of things in any of the 5000+ solarsystems, ive played the game for over 2 years myself and it just keeps getting better and better. New content is added reguarly.

I think EVE-Online is a phenomenal game, seemingless depth, so many goals, wonderfull community, including the forums; however, in my opinion you need a secondary game to fall back on in order to play EVE. I had Deus-Ex 1 (Great game btw storyline keeps you going) for a while, but once I had beaten that I had to find another secondary game. Most other mmorpg's do not need a game to fall back on, because they aren't slow-paced like EVE.

EVE is like a virtual life. The corp structures, the politics, the warfare, the roleplaying, the friendships made with corp mates and enemies alike, the continuity and persistent world, and the fact we all play on one server ... it's just a tremendous game, I've honestly never played anything else that resembles it on all of these levels. Yes it is slow from the "game" perspective, but if you look at it from the virtual life perspective, the game is amazing. Highly, highly recommended.

ROFL, absolutely true. And since even my girlfriend (who usually doesn't like technical oriented games) understood the game mechanics (and is in a PVP corp), it must be an age thing - you need patience for EVE, and plan a bit more long term than, lets say, 2 hours.
@ weeicols: lol, "good" argumentation, why the game "sux".

A great game I have been playing it for a year and 3 months and still can't stop playing.

Truely unique and not full of all this boring lvling up crap.

There always something to train. I don't think a single play even the 1's who've played from beta are even near having all the skills possable.

and even if you start now after a short time you'll beable to compete with the more experienced players.

This alot of ppl thing the game is slow at first due to them not full understanding the game mechanics.

Such as insta jumps and microwarp drives that make travel significantly faster.

Ive been playing eve online for 2 years now, How to describe it well to start with consider it based on the classic space simulation game Elite. Ok it places you in space ammong 5,000 systems with multiple planets moons asteroid/ice fields per system all in real 3d, Your avitar is your ship and you fly it in 3rd person view moving it by using the mouse.

One thing to remember this is not a standard gring MMO unlike some other games you dont have to spend hours level grinding as there are no levels at all.  Insted what you have is a skill level system, Heres how it works you start with some basic skills based on your charecter creation decitions, For example SPACESHIP COMMAND LEVEL 1 if you want to fly better ships it needs to be of a higher level to do this right click on it and select train skill it imediatlly sjows you how long this will take after this time has passed it will be at level 2.

Good thing is this is in real time and the skill continues to train while you are offline so training a skill while sleeping or working is easily done. Also killing things does nothing to change this time so skilling is not based on any actions you take. Customer support in this ghame is top notched most replies are done within the hour and they are very helpful.

So if you are tired of level grinding and want to play a game with Many opertunities for fun Then eve is for you.image

The 14 day trial doesnt even scrape the tip of the iceberg. Your goal as a player is to make it to 0.0 space. Your goal is to get to Pvp, becuase that IS EVE. The thing that makes eve is the Huge alliance wars. Its one of the best Pvp systems becuase the players decide everything. Its not NPCs or Devs commanding the allainces or declaring wars. Its players. Everything else is just filler lol.

The market system is awsome, and the mining is creative (although boring). Trading is easy if you know what to do. I just wish there was better PvE. Its the one thing i feel is missing. Although it gives it a much better feel then say EQ where you walk out of town and theres 30 goblins for you to kill. There are no paths that you can stop at and kill any NPC you pass by. The fact that they are only at belts makes it feel sort of limited. Deep Space Complexes make that a bit better though. But who needs PVE??? PVP is all the combat you can ever want.

The graphics are the best out there at the moment. Theres a ton of music tracks that add tot he ambient feel of it all.

Most people complain that money making is the boring part, and most people are force to do it becuase the burn 300 million on a raven thats only insured to 100 million. They think that a 300 million isk raven fitted with all tech 2 items mean it wont die, but things happen and they do die pretty damn easy. I got the easy way out. Due to loosing a mega to drones on the early days of exodus i bought another at half price form my corp and got paid full insurance from the other. A week later CCP gave me my mega back and i was sitting on about 200-250 million all of a sudden. Instead of buying a tech 2 raven i trained cover ops and just run scouting with them. I enjoy the hell out of it and the money keeps building up when i feel like making money.

If you play this game smart and avoid grinding its the best game on the market by far. If you do grind it can still be a hell of alot of fun. However, BY ALL MEANS when you get a chance to join a big Pvp corp DO IT!! If you dont get into pvp and you just mine you'll get bored.

Eve is great in so many ways, the way the skilltraining system is setup is so newer people can quickly catch up (though still be slightly less effective) to older players. Anyone can help in PVP, grabbing a small ship to catch and prevent others from warping away is a great help for veterans in battleships.

The thing with this game is too, you can never max out, they are always adding new skills and moduals. Personally I am a few days away from a dreadnaught, but there is so much MORE i want to do, like like all officer mods for it that cost more than the 4 billion isk ship, train jumpdrive skills to lv 5, the capital skills up to at least 4, itll take months, maybe even a year for me to have the ship the way i want it, and by then, they will have tech 2 dreads image.   So there is always something new to go for!

EVE Online is life in space. It focuses on professional elite starship pilots and how they forge their corner of the galaxy into whatn they wish it to be along with other like-minded pilots. It's about business and corporations, economics and the Regional markets, alliances and wars, building starbases and fleets of ships for the corporation, bounty-hunting the pirates, pirating the bounty hunters, honouring your corporation, seeking out excitement, crushing the evil oppressors or bringing enlightenment to the heathens. All of it depends on where you want to go and what you want to do.

The game is very much focused on player interactions, either cooperatively as a team in a fight gang or a corporate venture, or else antagonistically in the form of PvP through wars or pirating. The truly solo EVE player will get bored. You can specialise and excel in a few areas or else you can generalise and do a little of everything. There is no levelling grind - it is about time for skill trianing and careful consideration into wheere your character is going.

It is not an instant gratification game.

I've been playing this game since the server went up (well, and some beta ;)).

EVE can't be described in a 20 page review, let alone a single post. To say the least, if you are patient person willing to give the game a week so you can get past the learning curve, you will find a game you never want to stop playing. This game is, in my opinion, the perfect game, and I urge everyone to try it!

  • ThoemseThoemse Member UncommonPosts: 457

I play eve since beta and i tried all the other new MMORPGs when they came out.
EVE is the only game play for 2 years now. For me it'S the perfect game making every other game utterly unimporant.
Is EVE for you? Try it out and give it the full 14 days the trial offers you. The game is the most complex game that i know off and it takes a while to understand. You cvan't play that game for an afternoon and say if you like it or not.

  • flamingmarmoflamingmarmo Member Posts: 2

Eve is different to many mmo's that are out there at the moment firstly because you train up skills real time. ie a skill might take 6hours to learn rather than the usual kill 100rats. It is also the only game i've ever played which truly sets your heart racing and coming away from pirate attack can leave your hands litterally to shakey to hold the mouse, maybe this is just me who gets this though.

That said because it trains real time a 2month old newb will never have the skills a 2 year old vet. Don't expect it to give you goals you have to make them your self wether its to dominate a regions market, become a feared pirate, lead an alliance or simply have a laugh with mates whilst mining.
1server (we just broke another record for most numbers of players on at once hitting 14k) means true player politics.

The main part of the game really is the pvp out in lawless territory where anyone can kill anyone this doesn't mean that it is simply the realm of griefers but of where those who have the dedication and teamwork to make a powerful fighting force rule.
This is especially true since dies does hurt you for example if you lose a battle ship worth 120million the insurance will pay back 80-100million after the cost of getting the insurance, add in anything from 10million to 200million in modules and it means losing it will hurt since you make money at a rate of around 2-4million perhour in safe space mining or trading and 30-40million in lawless space mining or npcing (natuarlly a good player can make more both from character abilities and the players acumen, but the flip side is a poor noob can't make much).

There is also a thriving rp community although i'm not into that really so can't give much help there. oh and if on your first day someone steals your or or some other silly activity remember its equally likely someone will come along and give you the money for some skill books, a frigate and some fittings.

ps the chat system is one of the best i've seen.
