Anyone ever play this old RPG? Of course, me being such a huge fan of Raymond Feist I am a little biased, but out of all the games I've played I still remember this one with fondness (this one and Bloodstone). It had some really interesting features as far as camping, the word-trap lockboxes, improving your bard skill so you can earn silver at an Inn, etc.
Would love to see this revived or made into an MMO, without the turn-based combat.
Anyone? Would love to hear from you if you ever played it.

Haven't played but I'm also a HUGE fan of Feist's work, and agree that yes, an MMO in the Midkemia setting would be AWESOME. Especially the possibilities if it was during the rift war. There's so much there. In fact, I seem to remember that there was a company developing both a browser game and a 3d MMO, but they canned the MMO.
But yeah, Feist is awesome, and an MMO would have tons of potential.
I loved that game. . that and the Realms of Arcania games. Great stuff. There was just something to the feel of those games. They really pulled you into the world.
Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
Well there is THIS:

but it's text-based (sad face). I didn't even know this existed until 5 minutes ago. Will have to check it out.
"Midkemia as an online gaming world ? It has been talked about for years, there was even a RiftMUSH, which was given Rays blessings many years ago, but eventually, it came to an end. Then back in August 2003 it was announced that Iron Realms had acquired the rights to develop an MMORPG, based on the Riftwar series of books, though for almost a year nothing major had been heard, until it was announced in September 2004 that the graphic game was cancelled in favour of a text based game, the developement of which had progressed slowly until recently. You can find out the latest in our section on Midkemia Online."
Ah that must be what you were talking about.
But "the graphic game was cancelled in favour of a text based game" ... I want to know who thought that was a good idea.
Probably whoever was financing that. Even so would have loved to see something set in Midkemia. Big fan of the boy Ray myself. Beeing a black robe would have been sweet.
I've only played Betrayal in Antara, which I picked up on a whim at a Quakecon back in like 96-98 or so. Was ok, but I keep hearing Krondor was the good one.

DIdn't play it, but it had some very loyal fans. Would probably be a good IP for an MMO.
Wow. A Betrayal at Krondor reference... I am in awe. That is a name I never thought I'd hear again.
Well, that takes me back... Between BaK and the old SSI games (most notably for me was Veil of Darkness, which was more an adventure/puzzle game, but same concept), that's how I cut my PC RPG/adventure teeth. Yup, those were the days.
Bravo, my friend, bravo.
Don't get me started on the D&D SSI games from way back when. I have no idea how many hours I dumped into Shattered Lands. Had the entire collection of em, but SL was the only one my comp could handle at the time, well, it and Al Qadim. I really wanted to get into Wake of the Ravager and the Ravenloft ones, but couldn't really hang with em. The former had like 5 minute loadtimes between zones.

I loved all those old CRPGs. I still have BaK on a shelf in my closet, wedged between Wizardry VI: Bane of the Cosmic Forge, and Darklands, and next to the SSI gold box D&D games. Good times.
Easily one of the best RPG's made.
I would buy the remake or an MMO without question.
And let's not forget the original Betrayal at Krondor is now freeware and available to every body. If you never played it hang up your "I give a crap about graphics and tings" Hat and get in some proper old school computer rpg action. Happy christmas everybody!
Yup , played it , what a great game and actually still have it in the basement , in a box with many other old school games..
I loved those old games.
this is a great place to find them for anyone who has never played or would like to play again.

Betrayal at Krondor was definately an awesome RPG, won quite a few rewards from recolection.
I think it would do well as an MMO becasue the books have developed the world so well. It would take very little to develop the story becasue the whole world (plus another world) has been well developed. In fact, you have have easy access to expansions for a new world, a southern country, islands, a new continent. If done well, you could also base the expansions like WoW did and change the world as the books flow through, each timeline event being a new expansion (original game can take place during 'Magician').
If you want a good example of converting a developed world into a game, look at AoC which was based on a written world, well the world by Raymond Feist is much more detailed.
Ooh, really? I did not know that! Will have to grab a copy since I lost my original many years ago. Thanks. Merry Christmas to you too.
I know, right? I had the same thought just last night when talking about it. The way his books are arranged already lend themselves to an MMO layout with multiple expansions. It's too bad a bigger studio with more money hasn't pursued this. I think his world is so rich and diverse it would be an easy translation to game and alot of people would enjoy it. But, as I said, I am biased ;>
I would love a mmorpg set in Midkemia
Egad, that was a while ago.
About all I remember of Betrayal at Krondor is that I played it through to the end. Unlike other popular rpg's - for example say, KOTOR - which was so linear and predictable that I didn't. So I guess that merits a thumbs up from me.
Was it Krondor that had food rations in little string tied boxes which you had to find or buy, or risk stavation? And maybe some rations were better quality than others, or had buffs etc? In any case, I actually kind of like that feature. It can add an element of realism and immersion to a virtual world.
I believe in BAK you HAD to eat, and rest, it wasn't really optional. And if I remember correctly you could get "bad" rations which poisoned you. I think food that you got from an Inn was generally better quality.
Never read the books.
But played, and loved it
