I just need so badly the general NDA to be lifted so I can finally through fan sites determine the class I want to play on release! Gone through all of them pretty much, but then it comes to not knowing exactly how the classes play and what abilities they have... Any complete ability lists on inthrawebz?
This will be the first mmorpg that will be a good purchase and fun to play 8 times to max level regardless if the mmorpg elements work or not, and I'm sure they'll work too! Finally something to play, and so close.
I really enjoyed the article, Isabelle hit almost everything that makes being there for a big MMO launch such a fun experience, the one part missed (maybe) is the popcorn-inhaling outbreaks of drama that seem to occur randomly around a launch. I always enjoy those too.
When it comes to SWTOR, I'll miss out on the new shiny side of things (because of testing) but I'm genuinely still excited about and curious about the launch. Reading through all the comments here right now is entertaining, but when things will really be fun is when everyone can talk freely about the game, and back up their arguments with examples from their own experiences in-game.
I don't doubt that there are people who have tested and didn't like the game, and I don't see the point in arguing with them now, or ever. It's not possible for any game to be "the" game for everyone, and good luck with trying to tell people that they "should" be having fun with something that they don't enjoy. Fun is so utterly subjective a concept that it's often impossible to understand how anyone else could have fun doing something that you find deathly boring - and vice versa.
I know how *I* feel about SWTOR, but I'm madly curious to see how others feel about it. I've loved some games that have struggled to find their audience and felt meh about others that have done really well, so I'm well aware that my opinion of a game may not be shared by others, so roll on December when the suspense will be over and everyone can play (if they want to).
SW:TOR is going to be another one of those games where you scratch your head and wonder why you bought it several weeks after release. Wait a year and try it when it goes F2P.
Gotta love statments that has no proof to it. Think ill join in:
Diablo 3 will be announced free-to-download, 2nd week in December, just after full moon. Plus they add a new class, The Knowitall - Deamons will die before they even spawn, because he knows they will!
It seems to me, trying to convince others that they will not, and should not, like the game because they don't, has in fact, become a game itself. So many threads like this, and for all games.
I did not beta SWTOR, but a very good friend did. He loves it, and we often like the same games. I will take that over some random guy/gal on the most spite filled forum one could imagine, telling me the beta'd it and hated it.
/shrug
Worst case scenario? I wasted $60, which would not be the first time, and the last time I bought a dud of a game, my life didn't end. Otherwise, just going to have some fun.
Yeah it should be a fun month or two, possibly three. I was kinda surprised Isabelle said she wouldn't fall for their pressure tactics as on one hand it's kinda her Job to be there, but on the other hand to have stuck to her guns and earned the respect amongst her readers and retain her own dignity would have gone down in history books. Heck people would have honored her and her choice so much they'd probably write songs about her.
I'm going to go waaaay back to the OP which seems to have gotten forgotten in the tug-of-war between the attackers and the defenders. I'm looking forward to the 'opening day blues'. The ups and downs of servers, watching and waiting for the 'hot patches' and even the inane questions (though I tend to record a macro or two with answers if I've seen the question 5+ times in a given time span).
Methinx it will be a glorious game of "hurry up and wait"!

You'd think the "new in thing" or smart thing to do nowadays would be to simply wait. There is nothing "special" about being there day one anymore well out side of special headaches.
It's all the same story as above, nothing but-a-pita, well with the exception of Rift, although Rift launch was seemingly smooth they were running on a extremely damaging security issue and the launch ultimately suffered from that.
Copy past any launch and (insert game name here), pretty much the same o ' same o '. So why put yourself through that, come back several months later when things have quieted way down, much of the problems are water under the bridge and enjoy yourself with a much more stable matured game.

In my case, it's because I expect that early access won't have those issues. At least, not to the extent that servers are down for hours a'la STO...
Launch day may be a different story. And if it is, then I'll have already played for days on end, and will probably be ready for a short break from it.

5 or less days to be exact :P
But I don't understand how launch is going to work, so everyone who pre-order have early access, which they are going to be let in 5 days before launch, continously expanding the amount of people in server.
So do all pre-order guarantee to be let in before launch? Thats why they limited the amount of pre-orders?
How many people haven't been able to pre-order? I heard pre-orders are in the 1-2 million orders already?
Whats the point of launch day? Early Access is the real launch day since majority of people are going in on that day instead........
unless Australians can order from Origin on Launch day ;D
How much WoW could a WoWhater hate, if a WoWhater could hate WoW? As much WoW as a WoWhater would, if a WoWhater could hate WoW.

Partly what i meant by there's nothing "special" about launch day anymore and you pointed out one of several reasons. Is the actual launch day pre-order day, when most people log in or when the day comes and it's the "real" launch day, but one problem most people have already been playing for several days?

Everyone who pre-ordered the game will get access to the game before launch. But Bioware has stated that everyone will not get access at the same time. Likely they'll give some of those who pre-ordered access on Thursday, then access to some more on Friday, and to the rest on Saturday.
I love how you kids complain about a game that isn't even out yet Or say this game is gonna fucking blow when you haven't even played the damn game ooooh i'm such a greatass because I have watched gameplay videos and trailers. So I automatically know this games gonna suck Get off your highhorse and play the damn game first before sticking your foot in your mouth.
Wow, feel the negativity surrounding a game that is not even out yet, and that most people commenting on it have not actually played it yet. Yeah, sure, some will just not like the idea of this game at all, that's fine ofc, but why bother to waste your time moaning about it then?
And as for all the talk of, hey its "obvious" it will fail, great argument, lets try and back that agument up with, oh I don't know, any fact or reason?
Oh, you can't because of the NDA? Yeah, right......
I thought this topic was about the excitement of a new MMO launch, that buzz of trying something new, finding out stuff with friends and strangers, all of the above about what is great and unique about a launch that you can never truly experience again.
But, oh no, its now about, as usual, game is gonna fail, cuz I knowe! But I cant tell y'all cause of NDA... Jeez...not quite what the spirit or topic of this post was about.
And yes, I do like Star Wars, and Bioware games. But, since I haven't played the damned thing yet, I have no idea if it will be great or fail. I do have far more positive thoughts than most of the haters here, but as I can not predict the future, or will complain without any evidence as to why, I will look forward to this regardless.
I really can't wait for the launch buzz, there's nothing quite like it, I have had the pleasure of some over the years, issues and all, but, good or bad, they will stay with me forever.
I really want to get excited for SW:TOR but I just can't. None of the classes or races interest me. If it released 6 months ago I almost certainly would have bought it due to the lack of competition then. But releasing in December means I can be patient for the two games I'm really excited about, D3 and GW2.
The only bummer is that release is when the games are the most fun, and so it just won't be nearly as enjoyable a year from now when everyone is at level cap doing end game stuff. It will be even worse if I want to go on a pvp server.

SWTOR is not likely to go F2P. Luca$ would never let his new flagship game stop paying to suck...
