Answer is very much dependent on personal preferences. I like Saga of Ryzom most, but GW or WoW seem to appeal broad audiences.

This is stupid.. you're going to purchase and play a game just because OTHER people like it? Nearly 1.5 million people like WoW yet i didn't think it was anything special, should i rather disregard what i think and play a game simply because others are?

Look around abit, try abit more effort than "hey what i should i play?" if u wish to avoid buying a game you may regret. Read some reviews, browse some websites etc.

But i agree with mmatto, if you cant be stuffed just go with his advice.

My most favorite is There, the user built content is awsome and the community is the best. Also I like Outer Worlds once in a while. It has a small community and some of the best builds your ever gonna see.

of that list, Eve Online is the best mmorpg (by far). But it is by no means suitable for everyone, its a game you will either love or hate, so try the 14 day free trial first.

PvE in general is pretty lame, if you think long and hard about it. You are spending your time beating a severely gimped AI that would lose to a well trained monkey. Best not to think too long and hard why you are wasting time playing games in general actually...

I really get sick of seeing these.
There is no "best" MMO. It's all a matter of personal preference.

Ultima Online is the best ever.

I haven't played it now for a few years, for various reasons.

But no MMO has come close to being as good as UO.

Wish was brilliant, but it was cancelled.

Guild Wars - I rarely like grouping in games and this game shoves it down your throat i also prefer subscription based games as it keeps at least some of the "riff raff" lower end of the gaming community away.

EVE - Tried the 14 day trial, i never actually thought a game could bore me as much as this did, don't get me wrong i don't just look at the face value of games EVE did have some interesting ideas and concepts but it just didn't grab me from the beginning and that is a thing all MMO's must do.

WoW - I don't usually judge a game on graphics but dear God... the community is full of 11 year olds who come up with the usual "Your GAYZ!!?!" comments when you beat them. The lack of classes, species, graphics and community all say this is NOT a game that i would like and i have a hard time seeing that other people do, i blame hype for its current "success" if you even want to call a game like that successful.

CoH - I did the 14 day trial and i enjoyed it, not a bad game but then after about a week of the kill, kill, points , skill routine it did bore me, i did do some quests but the lack of buildings to explore i just felt it was lacking somewhat. I loved the freedom and the effects of the powers (cartoonish graphics done well... not at all like WoW's) a good game to play for say 2 hours a day but i tend to play MMO's a lot longer than that. If you are getting bored of your MMO give this a try for a month or so as a break it will keep you entertained and also yearning for the content of your old game. My rating for this is 6/10.

DAoC - I have played for about 3 months, there is a learning curve (not anything as bad as EVE's) but if you find a good guild then they will explain all. The lack of players playing did worry me but as its gone on for so long now the community is a core of dedicated players and none of these n00bs who try the game of the month and make the game and community terrible *cough WoW*. Nice ideas involved RvR is just amazing, each new realm feels like 75% a new game i have never seen a game manage this genre so well. AMAZING GAME.

SWG (not included but i will review) - A great game for about a year that i played it the mix of professions, character customization, Star Wars was all great but after a period of playing and mastering 2 professions in 3 weeks it turns into a quest to become a Jedi. To see 20 jedi openly battling in Theed infront of stormtroopers is not only inaccurate it ruins the games experience.  The CU was good but nothing significant has changed. Jedi always get content and updates other professions get little to nothing e.g. Ranger. The freedom is great but if you balance that against the negative things the game is little more than a hollow shell.

My vote goes for DAoC, i hope this has been enlightening

Ok im going to say WoW, and go ahead and flame it you flamers. But the fact is im bored of it too, but i havnt found anthing else (yet) that is better. i tried all teh good SOE games except for eq1. eq2 seems really cool but the damn game broke my computer, so now i refuse to play any SOE game any more. I think the next mmorpg im going to try is COH.

My favorite is WoW. Go ahead and flame it all you flamers. but the fact of teh matter is, there is nothing else that is that good that i have tried. i tried ffxi it was good, but just didnt have my life to devote to it. i tried all teh SOE games, didnt really like them. plus eq2 messed up my computer, and yes my computer did surpass all the system requirments. so now i refuse to play any SOE games. theres my opinion.

Out of the ones you listed, Eve best for Sci-Fi and DAoC best for fantasy. Those are 2 amazing games and you would not be dissapointed.
