I'm not going to be long winded about the glory days of Galaxies...but I'm wondering if there are any other MMO's that have random resources that allow items quality change based on the quality of the base resource. I could go on and on about how the rest of SWG was infinitely better than ANY MMO since...A real hero class that required a lot...truly MASSIVE Galaxy...quality PVP...but I'd just be happy with the resources.

I myself have searched for 7yrs for an mmo that offers anything close to PreCU SWG
unfortunately my search has come up with very little, i too loved the crafting aspect,
the playermade goods, the player driven economy, the player housing & so forth,
{mod edit}
DAoC & UO are other alternatives but ar both older than SWG (unsure if this helps?)
Unfortunately the genre has moved backwards & not forwards imo
*EDIT*
I hope you find a good game to sink your teeth into, if you do please send me a PM
The Deathstar destroyed planets...Lucas Arts destroyed Galaxies

I love your sig block...damn you lucas...damn you...
SWG had the best crafting system ever. It's the only game where the best and smartest crafters could be depicted from the rest.
It's a shame, as most modern MMO players have no idea of how deep and rewarding the crafting system really was. It was a game in itself.
The crafting in SWG was so good that many people played the game for years without even holding a weapon. That's how good the crafting was.
SWG's crafting system was genius.
There is no other that has even touched SWG's crafting. What really pisses me off is that no other MMO has even tried - part of the reason why many are so quick to judge and hate new games.
Not sure how random the resources are, but check out ryzomm
sounds familiar, no?
Components for crafting can come from the corpses of killed animals or from hidden resource deposits scattered throughout Atys. Different ingredients provide varying benefits to different characteristics of the finished object. For example, when crafting a mace, using a certain kind of animal bone for the head may produce a hard-hitting but slow weapon, while using a particular wood may produce a weapon that is fast and gives a large bonus to parrying enemy attacks, but causes less damage. Further complicating things is the fact that any ingredient may occur in one of five classes and with a quality from 1 to 270, all of which affect the attributes of the final product.
Harvesting is a complex and sometimes team-oriented procedure. The player must first locate the desired materials using prospecting skills, as resources give no visible sign of their presence. If he does not have teammates to aid him, he may need to balance his work between extracting the resource and treating the extraction site to prevent it from collapsing prematurely or exploding. The site's location and the harvester's own skill levels both affect the maximum possible quality of the extracted resource.
Sweet thanks for the info...I'll definitely check it out. I wonder why devs haven't figured it out. There is such a core group that would kill for another great game like galaxies...
