Finding my MMO Solution is solved.

GeminiStaticGeminiStatic Member UncommonPosts: 182

So for awhile I wanted to get my MMO fix resolved and i've posted here on the forum trying to compare which games I wanted to play so bad. I've been asking about which is the best sandbox. Which is your favorite MMO and blah blah blah...

I realized that all of us are frustrated with themepark games and we just can't find that perfect sandbox and blah blah I wish Ultima online was still aweosme and blah blah blah..

I realized in order to be satisfied I had to get a game for each category of MMOs... so this is what I have decided...

for MOBA I chose League of Legends... when I just want to be competitive.

for MMORTS: Illyriad

for A Post Apocalyptic MMO: Fallen Earth..

for MMOFPS: nothing yet but don't care right now.. I might as well just stick to the conosle ones or wait for Dust 514.

and for a Sandbox MMO: Eve Online... yes EVE IS AWESOME..

this is coming from someone that wasn't too fond of being a ship all the time, but read the careers in the game and know its a long term game. Everything about this game is AWESOME.. the game mechanics are perfect and the Sandbox elements are just phenomenal. I wish I would have realized this years ago.

EVE ONline is here to stay for years to come and i"m sure they'll just continue evolving. So for you guys out there that feel bitter just take your gaming path by satisfying your genres with multiple games that might suit your current mood. For something competitive or something theme parkish or whatever. Each genre has their strengths depending on moods. Just do it.

I want to thank you all that helped out with helping me find a game.

    I agree.

With the implementation of Dust 514 and later on Ambulation EVE is on its way of becoming the first next-generation MMO.

dust 514 will have microtransactions, this could mean one of 2 things... the whole thing going f2p or a failed sub + micro system.

    lets wait and see.

For an MMOFPS try "World of Tanks"

    A strange game.

For MMOFPS, you may want to look for Planetside 2, or WWII Online.

For sandbox...well...EVE might be the only one that is almost good enough I would agree on that. But it has some elements that I dislike and it turns me down every time I activate my account, I end up just logging in changing skills and playing something else.

    - Skill System - I dislike its skill system, waiting and waiting and waiting before being able to do something new or different, improve your ship etc...is just pathetic.

    - Combat - Too much emphasis on Strategic play, no tactical play involved.

These two elements make EVE unpleasent to me.

But if you are ok with these elements then yes, I say go for it.

And Yes, I am very Bored with themepark MMO's, recently tried Age of Conan, quit at lvl 26...then tried Allods..quit at level 7.

I get bored doing the same things and followingthe same path with the same template...no matter the setting no matter the colors no matter the models and how they look no matter the story..all of them are the same game.

You're right. He should've used "Most of us".

Why else do you think WoW is declining and almost every post-WoW clone has been an absolute embarrassment.

That isn't any better, lol. Most of us? You assume too much, though I don't claim most of us love them either. I just don't assume.

That said, you're no scholar in why WoW numbers are declining either.

So.....your point is you hate themepark MMO's, I guess? Yeah, let's leave it at that.

I'm just saying? I thought it was obviously I was speaking in general, but assuming that I feel everyone feels the same way I do but I felt I was close enough considering where I'm posting this and having lots of people complain about not having enough sandbox MMOs and taunting the hell out of themeparks. Ya know?

I hear ya. To keep it nice: I apologize.

That said, I'm glad you found your "fix". Eve is one of those games that keeps you coming back, even just because the devs keep things updated. Now if only I could stick around in it longer.......

Post-WOW clones have been exactly as embarassing as their gameplay warranted.  You can't succeed by copying a feature list without copying the polish/quality that made WOW a success.

WOW is declining because it's fucking old.  It has an unprecedented number of players for as old as it is.

Personally I think CCP are taking a massive risk with Dust, there are so many obstacles in its way. Dust is trying to shove its way into one of the most competitive genres with an aesthetic direction that’s out of fashion. SciFi shooters are not as appealing as the pseudo realistic shooters for some reason.

CCP are also trying to take on heavy weights like the annual Call of Duty release and shooters like the Battlefield series. Each single Call of Duty title probably brings in as much revenue as CCP is worth. Revenue brings around the other issues like the fact that CCP decided to release Dust on the second best selling platform. Generally when there is a cross platform game sales are higher for the X box. Finally there is the micro transaction issue which on the console market is another risk. PC gamers are more acclimatised to them, begrudgingly anyway but console gamers are used to buying a game and being able to play it, even the recent map pack idea is very offensive.

So Dust will be a less than fashionable shooter on the platform with fewer overall sales trying to take on established games with a loyal player base.

    Currently playing:

EVE online (Ruining low sec one hotdrop at a time)

    Gravity Rush,
    Dishonoured: The Knife of Dunwall.

    (Waiting for) Metro: Last Light,
    Company of Heroes II.

Well Dust isn't just a scifi shooter, it's a sci fi MMOFPS linked with an MMORPG. And i think that even though most won't know or truly care about what happens in the MMORPG part the mere thought what they do has a persistent effect may be appealing. Now off course, i didn't read FPS players' mind and i could be totally wrong.

The question is whether CoD or BF can be considered as direct competitors, it's like saying an MMORPG will fail due to a SP RPG being released. The challenge will be to market/advertise Dust as what it is and make it clear to the players it's not just an other FPS like CoD or BF in a sci fi setting. If they fail to do so than yes they might be dissapointed with the sales, otherwise it could be a great success. And let's not forget that they had no choice when it comes to selling it on PS3, Xbox seems to be the worst choice for an MMO due to certain MS policies.

I will however agree that the F2P part is reaaalllyyy risky.

So Dust will be a less than fashionable shooter on the platform with fewer overall sales trying to take on established games with a loyal player base.

Ya EvE really is a great game. I'm getting to the point now where I can easily finish L4 missions for easy isk and starting to train for tech 2 guns for the ships I fly. I've been playing for months and months now and I still havent touched half of the things I want to try in EvE.

For anyone looking for an epic sandbox MMO. I'd highly recommend EvE. Theres no other game  like it .

Try join a corp that actually knows what EVE is all about. It gets lonely in space if you are flying solo.

    - Skill System - I dislike its skill system, waiting and waiting and waiting before being able to do something new or different, improve your ship etc...is just pathetic.

It rewards players for their longevity. In EVE there are no "rookies" getting all the good stuff as veteran players do eveytime theres an expansion, raised lvl cap, etc etc (wich happens in most standard mmos like WoW, etc etc). You wanna be good? You got to bring the skill to the table and spend time playing EVE instead of waiting for the next expansion to come out so you can charge in and be all shinny again.

    - Combat - Too much emphasis on Strategic play, no tactical play involved.

If there were no "tactics" in any "strategy" evolved or planned by a corp/players, there was nothing happening in EVE, because no strategy would ever come to its end, wich its not true since EVE is filled with stories of evolved tactics to achieve a planned goal=strategy.

These two elements make EVE unpleasent to me.

But if you are ok with these elements then yes, I say go for it.

I hope to god EvE never turns out anything like Archeage. At one point I was excited about it but some of the recent videos I've watched are really starting to turn me off. Seems the game too focused on fluff and fairytale like characters instead realism and attention to detail. Archeage is starting to shape up as a themepark/sandbox MMOs for the kiddies and immature men lol

Thats the problem with watching little snippet videos.  I dont bother watching them and sit patiently to judge the final result with my half full glass, life is too short to be a cynical pesamistic gamer :)

    I disagree.

I see console owners go into a frenzy with many DLC packs.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3  : they re-released the same game they did back in Feb, charged $30, and added a few more characters and people with ape-shit because they had to have it for those characters.

Activision  makes a killing of their $15 map packs. Look at black ops. 18 million map packs were sold. (source)

Nice source, I cannot argue with you about that, seems I was wrong about the console players perception towards DLC and map packs.

I don't play many different MMO's - I've played a few different ones but that's in the past and technology constraints (such as "modems" vs "broadband" and "highspeed") limited this.  As such, I'm not sure how big a trend something you'll find in EVE has become.

Multiple-accounts/multi-boxing.  This is pretty much mandatory to advance farther in the game.  It is also so common that references to "alts" that you'll find across threads, are referfing to these multipe accounts.

Most of your senior players have 2-3 accounts.  I've met folks with 12+ accounts and read posts by others planning on up to 40 accounts.  It is litereally expected that any more seasoned players will have multiple accounts in this game and will tell you they couldn't play it without all those accounts.

Is this as common in other games as EVE these days?

I am glad you enjoy it but looking at a dark screen with litle dots on it is not for me.
