I haven't played shadowbane, so I can't compare adequately, but i'll try anyway. I'm rooting for Daoc, because it made pvp pretty meaningful. Wow's pvp is pointless, and I just plain don't like SWG () oh, and guild wars is disqualified, as it is not an MMO

I liked the way AO, and DAoC do PvP as far as reasons to fight.
Planetside is more pure PvP for the FPS player in you, but there isn't a ton of reasoning behind it. You fight to fight and gain XP. But, that's fun too.
Jumpgate has always been fun for PvP, but it can be scary.
WoW PvP isn't pointless as it allows you to gain points to gain items. There is no real world consequence though.
Guild Wars PvP is fun, but Siphons is right... It isn't a MMO.
Shadowbane is great for the simple reason it is all about PvP. The game allows you to level very rapidly so you can get right to the point. It makes me wonder why there is leveling at all. ;p
Personaly from the games i have played, the most complete pvp system i have played was on EVE online, large 100+ ship fleet battles, tactical use of weapons and ECM modules, warp disruption, your ship gets blown up? thats it you loose it, you will get some money for it depending on if your insured and your level of insurance, some idiot kills you in your escape pod? your dead... permanently, usualy most ppl have clones, but sometimes you forget to make a new clonse with your updated skills, and lastly, everything in the game caters to pvp, its open anywhere, most of the best space sectors are not policed, massive corporation wars and alliances, and a dev team that always seems to have pvp first in mind when updating the game, one of the reasons i left it, i might add
Sorry for not making the list big enough i basically pulled those off the top of my head on ones i have tryed. and i usually stay away from MMO FPS/SCIFI (besides SWG i am a huge fan of starwars so i had to try it.)

Of those listed I would say DAOC has the best PVP but SWG's has been improving a lot over the past several months. It's a good system but DAoC has the best PVP I've seen in a Fantasy RPG. SWG needs to start giving more reasons for people to fight.... lately there have been a lot of PVP Dev sponsored Events which have been very cool but the game needs to work on some more incentive to PvP. Right now it's kind of a 'when you're in the mood' system. Which is fine and the PvP is great but it's not like DAOC where you have to go defend your realm or risk losing perks.
Would be interesting if they implemented a system where the more planets you control the better you craft or something.

SirVampire... Even the development team says it isn't a MMO.
Guild Wars is similar in design to Diablo. You go into a lobby (towns) and then move out into a dungeon (instanced playfields). The only common ground in the game is the lobby (town). It uses some MMO elements, but isn't defined as a MMO. It isn't a MMO based on the MMO standard as of now.
However.... Guild Wars is a fun game and definitely recommended. The PvP is fun!

God knows how you come to the conclusion that WoW beats daoc / eve / shadowbane in pvp anyway, GL.

Probably DAoC out of those ones. I still enjoyed UO's PvP the best.
UO pre-trammel had the best PvP. Of the games you mentioned in your poll DaoC for me was the best.
Guild Wars pvp is a lot of fun, but I agree with others it is not a MMO in the traditional since.
