Territorial Control Blog and Video

RohnRohn Member UncommonPosts: 3,730

Discord has posted the blog by Aphilas talking a bit about the upcoming Territorial Control patch.  In it, he talks about the overall process, and the status of the system as it currently stands:

"After testing TC for 2-3 weeks total we still have quite a few minor bugs to go through as well as few more tasty aditions to make, but overall we can finally see the light at the other end of the tunel. The core systems seem to work fine, so we just have to fix existing small bugs before Sebastian can add the final features and we procede to final testing phases. Within next week (if everything goes as planned and no, this is not an eta) website should get and update where you'll be able to track Focus Teams progress on live political map of the test server. Next stage of testing should be extreemly interesting since we'll get our hands on controlled territory rules and towns control."

They've also published a short video as a sneak peak to TC.

The entire blog and link to the video can be found here: http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/68540-focus-team-tc-blog-video.html

cool, i especially like the part with the npc guard shooting from the top of the guard tower. it should take at least 3 or 4 guys to take down a guard tower imo. even then if no siege equipment is required to destroy them it will be a heck of a job to keep guard towers up 24/7. either way it will spur a lot of pvp.

also, i hope those towers can take more then 1 sword hit....i'm sure that was just to keep the video short.

  • RohnRohn Member UncommonPosts: 3,730

Oh yeah, I also hope a tower will take more than one sword hit to go down.  Still, as you said, I also think towers will be going up and down faster than a ten dollar hooker, no matter how tough they are, which will hopefully lead to some fun times in-game.

I also liked the NPC, as well as the map in the keep, which I thought looked nicely done.  Oh, and the ladder climbing was pretty cool too.

Should be interesting to see the map tracking on the web site in the near future.

Overall, I think it looks pretty good so far, though it sounds like they've still got a lot more work to do.

When SV says "next week"  that translates to probably sometime next month.

But besides from that it looks very promising. I'm really looking forward to the territory control expansion.  It will completely revolutionize this game.  This should give PVPers countless hours more pvp and crafters more business due to wear and tear.

Never trust a screenshot or a youtube video without a version stamp!

looked rather good, i kinda knew about all the features shown in the vid already though but gigamo and the rest of the aq testers are so tight lipped its impossible getting anything outa them didnt even know gig was making a video i feel left out :(

I liked the guard im guessing he is the arbalest but im hoping the scorpio is infact a turret that has to be used by a palyer. Ncie to see some form of npc guard that will also be hireable inside the keep even if they are stationary.

The highlight of the video for me was seeing how smooth the free placement of towers is, this really does look like free housing placement is a very distinct possibility.

im certainly more excited for this than either the epic patch or dawn.

Not too impressed by the video myself.

The guard should pull out a sword and go hand to hand if someone climbs the tower (same way sators switch between darts and spears) and maybe be able to do a knockdown as people are climbing up.  They should be much less easy to kill and do some reasonable damage, otherwise they will be a waste of resources to purchase.

The video didn't show any of the keep npc functionality at all which seems like vapor at this point.

Small things but there is an obvious typo in the treasurer window and the grass popping through the keep looks aweful.

I was really hoping to see something about tester methodology, but seems there is not much to test yet.

    (mod edit)

The video looks ok but until the TC is working in game with all the players I will not have much to say on the matter.  I was very hyped about Dawn.  When it came I felt like I got kicked in the testicles.  And I am still feeling like that.  Hopefully the testers make a difference.

i think the damage levels and build times are jsut for testing purposes. I agree that it would be cool but unrealistic to expect that for the guard in any sort of recent time frame

stonestink- you was hyped about dawn? seriously what feature exactly excited you cause i was shouting it was a terrible exapansion to release at such a crucial stage of development and they wre focusing on stuff almost all the population wouldnt even experience.

Agree thoguh there doesnt look like much to test yet and alot of it is still not in there. I liked the construction of the towers and the fact we actually get a placable guard but theres no real overall feel of the actual TC aspect of the update yet. Its more like constructing random towers which in the test build dont seem to have any real affect.

@Deathshroud ; I am a tamer I was hoping to get the new breeding system soon after Dawn but it looks like that could take another year.

Well, we "trusted" Henrik and co. when they said they could get TC out "fast" (the reason they ignored pets, ai, ui and all "basic" systems) and if this is "fast" I would hate to see how many years it will take for UI and AI and pathfinding to be put in game- Hell, I am still waiting on that revolutionary breeding/genetic system which was supposed to be in with the DAWN "expansion".

-Trust Henrik though... Its going to "epic", when it does make it in game (and when its horrible and buggyit will not be talked about since focus will switch to the next shiny thing SV "plans" for the game)

-However, I dont think we will get that far as I feel the end is near.

SV provided some information regarding the status of the territorial control update today, which can be found here:

    http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/68704-update-2011-11-15-a.html#post1231903

Additionally, they've constructed a page for the beta version of the Political Map, which is located on a leaderboard page called the Chronicle of Nave.

    Certainly... =D

ON TOPIC: So, where is any new information??? This was supposed to be the "fastest thing SV could implement", there was hype that it would be tested, a testing group chosen, we were told to expect a "write up" or some more info soon, the fanboys were rallying a couple weeks ago about TC and now....Nothing.

So I guess we are just getting tired of folks showing up here to hype something like TC and then going silent. This pattern of certain...People... To come here with loads of hype and then dissapear for weeks only to return to hype something "new" and never revisditing the old "hype" threads to discuss, converse, debate or answer questions is rather tiresome.

So could the OP fill us in on any recent developments with the EPIC TC stuff? Perhaps tell us what happened between a few weeks back (when TC was being hyped) until now whewn its totally silent (and has been)

Could the OP (or any "hype" machine) please explain that if (as we have been told) TC would be the quickest and easiest implmentation- How long until we see AI, UI, Pathfinding, Breeding system or one of the many features currently "turned off"- Honestly, the question is- If TC was the quickest thing SV could do (and was hyped and now pretty much silent) how long till the resat of the game is fixed???

And where is all the info, coming soon (tm).

In other words, friends dont let friends "hype and run"

    -Just a friendly reminder....

EDIT/ADD- Rohn, thanks bud- you beat me to the post =D

So in other words (based on the link provided) Henrik is giving lip service about nothing new... Again...

    Nothing?  LOL

SV released information about the progress on Territorial Control, which is what people had been asking for, in the blog being referred to:

    http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/68540-focus-team-tc-blog-video.html

This information was released 6 days ago, not weeks.  It's hard to miss, since the link is in the original post of this thread.

They released the link to the TC video that same day:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wloOF-oDb18

Additionally, dev comments about TC have been made in the forums: here, and here.

Then they have provided the update today, which again is what many players have been asking for:

    "Dear Community,

We are still in the process of testing TC and ironing out the bugs that the test team is finding with significant progress is being made and we are getting close to patching the content onto the live server.

One of the main features in the upcoming patch is the ability to fight for control over areas and cities offering a real reason to fight for control, something that has been lacking for some time now. We believe this patch will not only give something for the PVP Focused but allow all players to relate to the system we implement.

At this time we would like to show you a live Beta political map and something we call the Chronicles, which is a new form of "Ladder" progression displayed on our website. Right now we will be displaying the core of this new system and over time we will add more features and information.

The current system displays stats of players with the ability to turn on or off when implemented on live as a lot of players chose to keep their build a secret.

On the new Political Map you can follow the fight for Nave in real time (updated every 5 minutes) which will display various information on the progression of area and city control and which of these areas is currently under attack.

This section represents the progress of our testing ground right now, the testing is continual and it may be necessary of the period to wipe/reset or change the test Political map."

    http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/68704-update-2011-11-15-a.html

The availability of the beta version of the Chronicles of Nave is new: http://www.mortalonline.com/db

So is the ability to see the beta version of the Political Map: http://www.mortalonline.com/map

All of this within the last week.

Regarding updates, no matter how much info is provided, it never seems like enough.  As far as I'm concerned, though more updates would be fine, this appears to be a good amount of information being provided about territorial control.

    Yes, seriously.

They release a blog and a video last week.

They give an update on progress, and release the beta versions of the Chronicle and Political Map yesterday.

    These are certainly adequate updates.

The "blog" is essentially one dude saying that "FINALLY after forever, SV is deciding to have a focus group and test stuff"

The "video" is essentially one dude running around and building(?) a platform and then destroying(?) it.... I cannot wait to see how you guys make the game trailer/powerpoint for this. I bet it "looks" totally epic once its put into trailer form.

The "Chronical" is a leaderboard- I think you should focus on Xbox achivments next..That would be neat.

The "political map" .... Hmmmmmm.... I must say that the political map is pretty cool and much needed- But will it work?

I suppose "adequate" is a subjective term... To me it looks like more of the same.
