Besides the fact that both games use a different payment model which enables to play GW2 next to whatever MMO someone wants what I definitely intend to do just like I did with GW, both are nowhere near the same timeperiod when they come out.
SWTOR comes out next month and GW2 6 months later if not more.
In fact, I wouldn't be surprised at all if TERA, Firefall, ArcheAge, Blade & Soul AND The Secret World will be released before GW2, which rearranges the MMO landscape even more.
Would GW2 launch window be affected by those MMOs I wonder.
Say, ArcheAge or TSW releasing in spring/summer, forcing GW2 to launch at a different time.
Exciting times!
Gdemami - Informing people about your thoughts and impressions is not a review, it's a blog.
I'm not seeing anything in SW:TOR that makes me wanna buy it. GW2 grabs my attention with the World v World v World system. I'll keep my eye on it. No subscription fee is also quite appealing. So yeah, GW2.
Although I love Bioware, I can't stand SWTOR. My god does SWTOR look awful. Terrible graphics one thing, but combat looks boring and isn't even fluid.
Now if they made Mass Effect MMO with the same vast universe and storyline, I might reconsider a Bioware MMO. Otherwise...meh SWTOR just looks terrrible and I just can't stand how bad that thing plays, whether or not it will have massive amounts of content spanning countless star systems.
GRIND sucks? You wanna be max level in a month? Since when did society award easy-goers and lazy-fools? MAKES ME PHOBIC OF STUPIDITY!
I will be doing both. Thankfully the fact that guild wars doesn't have a fee will allow me to do so. I can't afford two mmos at the same time, but thankfully in this case I won't have to. I'll be flipping back and forth between the two, at least until Arch Age comes out. If that game is as good as it looks, both SWTOR and GW2 will be stuffed into the trunk while I play AA.
SWTOR is like WoW, but worst Instanced PvP, for trade off of OWPVP.
but the Cut Scenes will be a killer. I dont want that, like Dragon Age had. I want to skip it.
GW2 wont have Endgame content, so It likely will die during the break periods of the x-pacs.
I have to go with both.
SWTOR cut scenes can be a huge blow. also the leveling speed from it.
GW2 on the other hand, will get dull sooner than SWTOR likely, but still have interest spike points along the way
1) Both GW2s dungeon and SWTORs flash point have "end game heroric" sorts of modes, even though they name and classify them differently. Basically, even if your not into raids or pvp, you still have 15-16 flashpoints at end game to do in TOR. Though, you are of course not limited to do all of them with 1 character, as half of them is republic and other half is empire.
Additionally TOR has 1 raid. GW2 does not have raids.
Both are said to contain powerful world bosses. We have seen this for sure in GW2 many times.
2) GW2 also have instanced pvp. In fact all it's pvp is instanced. Even the WvWvW is instanced but on a larger scale. Time will tell how good and balanced these modes will be.
SWTOR does have world pvp on pvp servers and rp-pvp servers, but it remains to be seen if people will actually pvp on the contested planets.
SWTOR also has 1 planet where half of it is dedicated to RvR lakes(DAOC) sort of capture-keeps-bases-vehicles-turrents. this seems to be the promising pvp feature of TOR and can hold hundreds of players, but like WvWvW, its' kept under wraps for now.
Both WvWvW and Illum world pvp in TOR is not tested by any of us, so they are only proof of concepts. how laggy, how fun, interesting they will be, time will tell.

Because, for me, it's a question of time.
Between family, work, other interests, and single player games I don't have the time to be playing 2 MMORPGs.
Sooo....GW2 will be the one that gets bought and played.
I will be doing two things. Playing GW2 and arguing with friends that think SWTOR is better.
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.
I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.
I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.
.
I'm too excited for GW2 and D3 to care about WOW in space.

Its sad to say, even though I don't have the time, I will play both.
