While the setting is nice, why does everything needs to be turned into a mmo? What's next? Seinfeld the mmo: A game about nothing?
You might be surprised at just how many such browser based "MMO" games are in development out there for IPs. They're far easier to put out than an actual MMO - and I would not be surprised if you couldn't pitch a Seinfeld MMO to NBC and have it playable on their site...
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?
I wish i could own a fail game like this then , 140k users in facebook alone and the games not yet opened
so side bar add sales by them self will generate about $1-5k a week profits ez double that for click to view offers for free cash shop then add in the 5% of the general F2P audience that make micro transactions on a weekly bases
I agree 100% a browser game bringing in $15-30k a week profits is total and utter failure

You seem to equate riding off the back of a succesful IP and garnering interest means the product will have success.
The game will be a failure simply because it will be rubbish. Sure it'll probably pull in some profits for a short while, but you can bet your bottom dollar this will be as much of a 'success' as their Battlestar Galactica attempt.
Game of thrones has a die hard following, one that won't dawdle with a weak offering of the world.
Idiot: Hey, a buch of people liked that HBO game of thrones* series lets make an MMO of it!
Idiot2: Why, what is it about?
Idiot: Well, it's mostly about political intrigue and jousting tournaments. It's also got plenty of romantic aliances and backstabbing with some really kinky stuff going on, but we could never include that stuff.
Idiot2: Nor would we want to. Remember gaming is for kids, we need to keep it PG.
Idiot: Right, I still think it will work well!
Idiot2: So what about the magic system and the monsters?
Idiot: Oh, game of thrones doesn't really have any of that. There aren't many monsters and magic is very uncommon even less than Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Idiot2: So what are the players going to do?
idiot: Make wizards and kill dragons, of course. We'll just make up some garbage exaplining the difference. Fans are stupid as long as we use the names they will cough up the dough.
idiot2: So what are we going to change or make different?
Idiot: Nothing! All we have to do is make a WoW clone and put names from the books on everything. We'll make bank, all the fans will play and all the tired WoW players will jump over!
Idiot2: Get on it!
* Yes the books go in to more detail and have more setting information, but then why didn't they start making the MMO before the mini-series? The money people are stupid, why do you think we have the economic crisis and protests such as WAT99%?
'Sandbox MMO' is a PTSD trigger word for anyone who has the experience to know that anonymous players invariably use a 'sandbox' in the same manner a housecat does.
When your head is stuck in the sand, your ass becomes the only recognizable part of you.
No game is more fun than the one you can't play, and no game is more boring than one which you've become familiar.

[/b][/quote]
I can respect this view , your speaking for your self you wont like it , ive no problem with that at all , know what i dont think the game will be that good ether . but i know for a fact it will be played and played alot but O so many players . theres a void for games of this type , so they dont have to make the best game in the world for it to be a big money maker. they just have to make the best game out there . which wont be hard at all.
check out NeverWinter browser rpg , its not even a "Real" mmo and there just shy of 350k weekly users the game sucks graphics suck and its heavy handed cash shop sucks but the player base grows weekly ,,,,,,,,,,,, Cuz theres nothing better out there.
That's one thing I hate about having a good anything. Someone always gotta make copies to suck out more money. The books are the best and that is where the story should stay.
I hate how they choose crappy companies to make games about that awesome universe. Seriousely wtf is up with that? Sell the rights to a big studio who earned its name and make it a pay to play quality game. No one is wait for a cheaply made free to play mmo that sucks more then a adult movie actress does.
The terrible rts showed already its unwise to let noobs make a game based on GoT now give it to those who can actually make real games.
If they can make it that there are real Kingdom factions like in the real movie, and also that it's all player run kindom, i would be interested
Fail

I love the tv series and the books, I hope they won't just make some mediocre title, to get a quick buck..
It is Bigpoint, that is the only games they make, mediocre for the quick buck. Why anyone in their right mind would give an IP to these turkeys is beyond me. They could not make a good game if they tried.
Ahem, now that I have got that out of my system, seriously, why? All this to me reeks of people (NOT FANS) wanting to cash in on the latest golden goose. Sort of like the dreadful Harry Potter movies which was the first in a long line of products made cashing in on something else. (Now for instance, we have vampires galore since Twilight is all the rage. )
What will they do, make Daenerys a raid boss because she "went insane"? Besmirch the series by involving some flashy swords-n-sorcery magic? Bah.
No, I can't predict the future but I have got copious amount of evidence from history as to how this will turn out. (Hint: Badly.)

That's the only way ASoIaF MMO will be true to its source material. ASoIaF isn't about slaying dragons, it's about the divine order of the land, and the vast genealogy that maintains this balance.
"Never argue with a fool; onlookers may not be able to tell the difference."
Ok Battlestar Galactica admitadly has some issues, but to call it a failure is just dumb, it has over 5million registered users and populated servers so obviosly something is right.
100% Browser MMOs making only 10-15k revenue a week? dude dont pull random figures out of your arse. the avg mildly successful browser mmo makes that amount a day, a massive success like farmville, mafia and those other "Browser Games" make excess of over a million a month.
You cannot compare browser games to box or client titles for the following reason
1, the average budget is between 500k and 3m for a browser title, MMOs are box titles range from 50million +
Browser titles develop within 12-18monts, client mmos are about 3 years
And to say bigpoint isnt doing very well, last i checked they where in the top 3 browser companys in the world in terms of customer base, something in excess of 200million last time i visited their site. and they have opened several new offices in the last couple of years, not something that is cheap i might add.
Somehow i dont think they are living off of their overdraft.
Also back to the battlestar haters, BGO had 80 negative comments before its release simply because it was browser, i dont blame them im not pro browser either, but what you must acknowlede is that the what they produced in a browser has set the new high standard in browser games especially grahpically as it isnt the typical point click wait 20min sh*t you get these days that are all clones of each other.
Loved the books before the series showed up and everyone knew its name. It is a true shame that people like bigpoint have it and are going to completely ruin it.

First off what is with the excess CR's? It is ridiculous I have to edit your post to reply!
Registered users means zip in a f2p game, a good majority of those users try it only to find it is a POS and stop playing.
Bigpoint games are just thrown together and have little content. You can experience all the content in Battlestar in less than a month. It has nothing to do with it being a browser game, it is just a very poorly written game to start with, hence the chance that the game of thrones will be any different is very slight.

Hmmm..Game of Thrones as an MMO ??? and a F2P one and even browser based ??
It has been discussed here before, game of thrones is a fantasy drama with famillys fighting for the right to the Throne..
How is that even possible to make worthy as a Browserbased FTP MMO..?
What are you suppose to be doing in this game..?
This game will FAIL..

Do not support any of GRRM's distractions or he wil never complete the next book!
This kind of stuff sure gets posted about, and not followed up on, a lot.
Like, anyone remember the random announcement... "An MMO based on The Mummy announced" and then, nothing ever came of it.
This is exactly what is wrong with MMO studios.

So What Now?
such an innapropriate setting for an MMO. I bet red priests are going to be like pyromages, skinchangers will be druids/hunters. ugh awful
Big Point? Serious fail. This game will be facebook junk.
Big point is enough reason for me to steer clear of this title
