Star Wars: The Old Republic: Sith Marauder Preview

MikeBMikeB Community ManagerAdministrator RarePosts: 6,555

Bioware has blown the lid off of coverage of Star Wars: The Old Republic and MMORPG.com Community Manager Michael Bitton takes a look at the Sith Marauder. Read on to find out what it's like to be consumed by rage in The Old Republic.

Truth be told, I seem to fall in love with most of the classes I try in Star Wars: The Old Republic, but outside of the Imperial Agent, one class holds a special place in my heart: the Sith Marauder. Why? Because I beat Daniel Erickson with one back in April! Naturally, when I was given the opportunity to sample the Sith Empire side of things I decided to circle back around and play the Marauder once again.

Sith Marauder wasn't really on my radar, but Vette zapping and choosing the Light path as a Sith sounds oddly tempting.

I did the same exact thing at that ambush point while I was playing.  Definitely one of the funnier/more interesting choices you can make.  I was having a great time exploring every choice I could make but ultimately went evil on every decision.  I mean whats the point of being a sith if a few innocent people don't get killed along the way?

I play the Sith Maurader in Beta and love it! The sheer destruction that the class can lay down to a group of bad guys is awesome.

I hate Marauder.I did love the sin til it kept getting nerfed.

Also as far as destruction goes all Classes can have equal DPS if u pick the right skill tree

  • SoraksisSoraksis Member UncommonPosts: 294

No, all classes do not have the same dps even if you pick the right skill tree.   I have tested this false assumption quite a bit during my beta and I know absolutely with out doubt that they do not all do the same amount of damage no matter what you do.

I usually prefer melee DPS so this looks like my class of choice

Should be rules about posting stuff like this. I can't seem to do my job at work when there is stuff like this to read... stop it!

BioWare are 'blowing the lid' on this game on a daily basis - it's boring - I feel like I've played this game in my sleep for months already. And in a way, we have - it's WoW with light sabers. But Star Wars without Darth Vader is like Chrismas without Santa. Frankly, there are better games out there which don't need the hype.

Starwars will beat wow in pure fun factor.

I was very very sceptical versus Starwars, but i played wow for 7 years and if i need to choose between wow and SW i would do so without any hestitation.

Even if some aspect are not on par with wow, i will forgive bioware just that as they created a brand new mmo for the 1st time.

It beats random dungeons / random battlegrounds with OP rogues and huners anyday of the week.

    bye bye wow :)

I'm torn between this and a Juggernaut with dps tree as I love playing the heavy hitter class in other games, frankly I can't decide.

huh. I do not think you come off as you wish.

Though I did have fun reading your post.

Star wars without darth vader is like christmas without santa?

I guess because Vader was in star wars rigth away and santa came after mixing pagan and catholic teachings it just does not add up for me.

there are better games out there which don't need the hype? not really sure where this is going to be honest. Is it that you are saying a better game would not need such hype because people will come to it? Or is it not that and ToR sucks because you have been hearing about it?

Do you honestly feel that way? because that is a trip! Not sure about boring though. I find it interesting to learn about the game, whether I like it or not. Perhaps it is the reading.

And in a way, we have - it's WoW with light sabers.

See now we are close to agreeing, but I must say it is too simple to call it wow with light sabers.  It will be fun to level up in ToR where as in wow it is stupidly boring and easy  esp. now and for the last 4 years. The issues with ToR I dislike is because of the for anyone and everyone but not someone choices like we find in WoW and most every mmo.

I mean the biggest reason WoW sucks is because of the changes it makes to kill my fun. That and it's "end game" of ridiculous raidng for gear that is done almost entirely by people without jobs! Mostly? I mean come on we all know this design is for he who has the most time to kill!

I agree WoW has always failed in major areas, like crafting and housing. But what it did do well it did great. -Edit due to being buzzed-

what?  like WoW?  if you think there are better games out there, then go play them instead of making unqualified statements about a game you don't like, have never played, and probably will never play

This game'd be great if :

    1) They didn't fuck around with Star Wars Lore, it's totally wrong in every god damn way, especially anachronism (i mean the Empire ? Same clothes than under Palpatine ? 300+ years earlier ? Sith healing ??? BH Tanking ??? And so and so).

    2) It wasn't just like the most theme park / standard MMORPG that allows you absolutely 0 freedom in terms of running around / exploring, whatever. This games takes ur hand and never lets go of it. When u have experienced games like TES or even other mmos like EVE or even even Galaxies, it's quite a letdown.

    3) No innovation. Honestly guys, Tank/DPS/Heal, in Star Wars ? Couldn't you think about doing something a little bit MORE INNOVATIVE ? GW2 does it at least.

    4) Combat sucks, seriously, compared to TERA or even any single player game now (didn't try GW2 combat so i can't compare), this feels like back in the 2000s, honestly. U can sleep while fighting and it's so god damn simple that this game'll swarm with bots like 2 days from launch.

    5) Graphics are a catastrophy, not only i totally hate that retarded cartoonish, made for 5 years old, look but even the quality is poor, at 1920x1080 with everything at the fullest it still looks like crap, even Saints Row 2 was better looking than this, and we had GTA V (PC version), Battlefield 3, Rage, Skyrim... since then.

So, yeah, if u want a wow clone, with a much better story and voice acting, but the same on every other aspect, just in a Star Wars settings, then go for it. If u want an innovative game, then wait for something else.

    You're a Hardcore Survivor!

You not only survived the zombie apocalypse, but did it with style! Your mastery of zombie knowledge, survival tactics, and weaponry is nearly unmatched. Congratulations, for you are hardcore!

Lol u're just a poor fanboy putting everything of his miserable life on this game or what ? Everytime someone says anything bad about the game u jump on him like a poodle pretending to be a pitbull, all bark no bite.

Everyone's opinion counts on the same level, hate it or love it, that's how life is. I'm stating facts that, while they might seem be incredible to you, would ring a bell to others. TOR ain't a bad game, it's just nothing special now.

One thing might totally tip the balance on the awesome side : PVP. I didn't put my paws on it so i can't have any opinion on it, they seem to have fun arenas; if it's well balanced it might be quite good but i doubt that they'll let players lvl up solely on PVP (a la RIFT / EQ2 Nagafen) considering the huge amount of time they put in individual stories (that'd also be a misuse of the game, in a way).

No you're stating opinions. Also in some place you're stating downright falsity.

GW2 has the 'holy trinity' you will still need people to be tank, people to be dps, and people to be healer. All GW2 has done is homogenized it so /everyone/ is everything... yeah way to go. Don't even pretend that everyone being able to heal removes the need for a healer. All it means is you'll have a harder time finding those who actually /want/ to be a healer because there is no healer class.

The whole comment of WoW with lightsabers is laughable, it's like a little kid grasping at one little thing. Guess what? WoW was like EQ and UO. It didn't innovate anything. In fact, it dumbed shit down.

TOR is as different from WoW as WoW is from EQ2 (Guess what, EQ2 came out before WoW did).

Negative nancies are worse than rabid fanboys.
