LOL. I'm one of those people that like oversized weapons like in Tera, and giant Tauren riding a tiny helicopter like in WoW and don't find Pandas immersion breaking...but this is just way too weird. A realistic, serious looking game like ArcheAge suddenly all vibrant with goofy dancing...LMAO.

I'm ok with it. They did dance in medieval times, and in a world where magic exists why wouldn't it replicate some of the lighting and such that technology allows. Looks like fun to me.
Assuming this game makes an eastern release, I'm not worried about this stuff.
Do I think it's your typically childish eastern crap? Yes. It is completely out of place, and that's actually exactly what I expected. There is no way that you can look at a game developed from an asian company and not expect them to somehow ruin it, because that's what asian people like. They like midieval raves, kitty cats, pandabear characters, incredibly bright colors, and weird sexual fantasies(this can't be far behind..lol.
The good news for the western market is that the vast majority of western players will not be interested in this. If they are, they'll only do it once or twice for novelty. Even then, they would never find enough like minded players to do it more than once or to even have enough for a full-fledged rave/party. We will literally make fun of the people who do it so much that they will likely quit the game and insult the community on the forums.
So in conclusion. While I believe this to be an incredibly poor design choice by yet another sandbox developer, it is my opinion that it will not have as great an affect on the game as you'd normally be led to believe due to culteral (dis)interest.
I showed my mom, she said it makes sense. She used to go to these asian dances, and they would be in a dreary looking area and then when you went in it would be all bright and wild.

I'm sorry but I thought it was hilarious. What's even more hilarious is all the people saying "Oh man now I won't play," really? This joke is just too much for you? Now if you had to go to 5 raves a week or not get your awesome shiny jewel of a weapon I could see complaining but if it's just some random occurence in random places in the game you can easily avoid, who cares?
Why do so many people let one trivial thing dictate their decision on whether or not they play a game especially when said thing can be completely avoided?

Because, as we all know, if you have any sense of humor or take gaming even the slightest bit less than extremely serious then you must be childish or somehow inferior as a person.
Wow, Please God tell me that's not going to be something that's actually in the game. Freakin' Eastern MMOs always have these ridiculous fluff features that take away from the overall game. This is supposed to be an mmorpg, not Second Life. Grrrrr...
Ya lets make another boring ass mmo like wow, we don't have enough of those right?
If this isn't a joke... i got a question...who gives a crap? Seriously, it's just fluff, the more the better. Or do we all want to be grinding hamster wheels until the end of eternity.
Westerners not happy with Asian feature of an Asian MMO lol. This game is for the asian market and might come to the west. Find a western dev team to make a semi sandbox MMO then you might have a say. Perhaps if you stop buying the same old linear themepark MMO you would not need Asian MMO to be your last hope.
Western mmo gamers have no one but themselves to blame for the poor crap that you dev teams serve up

Yeah, because Eastern MMOs have always been so solid in every aspect. Are you high? There is a reason Western gamers don't like Eastern MMOs, and it has nothing to do with sandbox/themepark.

1)Dont try to flatter yourself and think your opinion is the basis of The Western" gaming market.Who says it has to be a rave it could just as easily be a metal/rock/alternative/pop/country club which I am quite certain is a world wide appeal because who doesnt love music.
2)Dont assume that because you pick on people that they really care what you think of them. Also dont think you are immune to being banned for harrassment. And along with that online bullying is no better than real life bullying but I am sure you think your anonymity on the web makes it ok.
Same with bikini's and bermuda shorts in Aion's medievalish fantasy. I won't even touch a game like that with a ten foot pole. Really hoping this was somekind of joke.
So wait you had wings that you could only fly with for short duration in medieval times?!Damn I was born too late wasnt I.
We don't have those in our day and age either.
It isn't about everything having to be as realistic as possible, we couldn't have any kind of magic then, but bermuda shorts and clubbing are stuff from our time and popular culture. I really don't like seeing stuff like that in fantasy mmorpg, especially of it promisses to be a great title for rp fans. You can tune into MTV for **** like that already.
While I wouldn't necessarily participate in a rave in a game .. I also wouldn't not play a game just because it had some pop-culture reference in it.
Tolkien / the LotR books were a metaphor for WW2 (or WW1 .. idk) .. the whole genre and sub-culture of medieval fantasy is based on using story to relate the signs of the time in another way. Granted LotR didn't have swing clubs in the story .. but it did have hobbits dancing on tables.
LFD tools are great for cramming people into content, but quality > quantity. I am, usually on the sandbox .. more "hardcore" side of things, but I also do just want to have fun. So lighten up already

Well as far as stuff like bermuda shorts and other stuff that might be out of place being something that is viewable by all with no choice in the matter by anyone I do agree with you,but if this is something that is placed behind closed doors and the only way to be viewed is by going into it then I fail to see how or why it would bother anyone or why they would even care beyond the point of being nosey neighbors that feel they need to control what and how everyone else does what they do for fun.
There has already been huge talks that the N.American game wil lbe quite different. They hav been having a hard time with a n.american publisher,so don't expect to see it.
They released two videos to pre beta 4,one shows al lthe features and LORE then this one ,which apparently is just for show and supposedly not in the game.
Two pre CBT4 videos Korean narrator tons of official videos Official vids ...Suppose to be some sort of hybrid class ssytem where you mix and match to make a different type of class. Class system
Seriously man,i am not saying this game is going to rock becuase i don't yet until i play it right? However there is a heck of a lot going on in this game,i mean it blows the doors off all the other games easily.
It has airships, sea battles, tons of pvp ,huge maps, flying on realistic gliders, build your own house, some real cool looking creatures, just so much detail all over the place.
No i don't find combat to be to my liking as in it has that Korean super fast arcade action, but that is what they like over there.Sometimes it is honed down to my liking :P.
The graphics i would say are going to be like EQ2,meaning the surroundings wil luse nice but low poly textures, while the gear will look very good, sort of realsitic metal and leather look.
You can watch 100 videos on this game and always come away with something new and different, yes this game will fail in areas, but idk man it is one of the better efforts i have seen in a very long time.Sometimes iit has the sex appeal and flavor of thjat bloodd and soul game, sometimes it looks like. FF machina, then has a lineage look, they even made the Cat race soemtimes run all 4's.
Ok enough out of me,back to watching UFC 139 :P
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I kind of like the idea of being able to stream music in specific zones, could be cool to bring the guild to one of the zones and just chill. Especially if you could do it in guild houses.
I understand though that this does kill immersion a lot. But thinking about it, nowadays to keep me immersed I need good voice acting, great graphics with zero lag and a decent story. Something that hasn't been present in the MMO market for some time.

Agreed. If they keep things like this optional and instanced I have nor problems with it. I just pray they will keep their IP clean from rl references and take it seriously. The world, general concept and mechanics which we've seen are awesome, would be a damn shame if they took an immersion killing crap on that.

Until you imagine just how much musical garbage your guild will cue up...
Meanwhile, they're chatting about how awful your favorite treasured musical classics are...heh.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
This must be a joke, they would never put Something like this in a game like archage, it has nothing to do with it...or the setting the game is build uppon...
But thinking again... ITS A KOREAN GAME SO EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE LOL
Right so apperantly they have magic/technology/whatever to use lighting and music like that. They also seem to have a culture that likes to party and race. Cool, no problem at all.
But be freaking consistent. If you have lighting like that and a culture that's able to appreciate the flashy then why aren't there any neon-signs powered by that exact same magic all around? Why isn't that special magic used anywhere else?
Why have this entire world that's done in one consistent style and then have a few of these small zones done in a completely different style. That's bad design.

Horrible, really. I don't think most players in the west will use it, or use it like that, maybe some will stream medieval music and make like it's an Inn or something like that.

Yes and we have seen so much of the world, amirite?...
For all we know there are neon signs in front of shops and etc
Also let's not forget that even if the stuff IS possible magic/tech wise, it does not mean that overall mainstream culture of AA world accepts it enough. For all we know, rave parties and overall that style of music is just a VERY early starting fad to which majority of the world in AA looks like majority of the world looked to personal computers during first days of computer development.

From what I understood by asking on the official Korean ArcheAge forums there are a "handful" of locations in the world for each major city that is considered a "Party Zone" that allows players to stream music on their PC through the in-game MP3 player for others to hear. Essentially, you can have player run DJ "clubs" in ArcheAge. Kind of like the EXACT system that APB tried to implement.
Sad really, this was my last hope for a real sandbox mmo, but having non-sandboxy "hard-coded" locations like this that make you "feel" like it's a sandbox is just depressing. I mean honestly, a "Rave" party club in a Medieval MMO O_o?
Dont fear for one, AA is designed for the eastern market and I never had any ambition that an Asian game would be it for me. Secondly with the rise of Skyrim, the soon to be released Open ended world of Reckoning and the prevelance of GW2's sandbox style elements it shouldnt be to long before investors and a development studio in the west realize teh potential gold mine of a well done AAA PvE Sandbox MMO could bring to the table.
