Just wondering as no doubt all will be downloading the last beta weekend
I'm guessing links will be up early this week but my connection isn't that great and I'm thinking can I download 20 odd gig in such a short space of time, also how will their servers cope with 1 M+ players all doing the same, will the speed be up to it?
Comments
right now it is aprox. 20 gigs but you never know what it will be for the weekend
20 GB? It was 28 GB when I was testing back in June/July. I've seen others metnion the same figure since, so I'd be surprised if the download got smaller after there has been additional content added to the game in recent months.
edit: On second thoughts maybe 28 GB is the size of the game installation after unpacking? If so, I stand corrected.
The other day thay added another 10 gigs btw
That is a tall order, a 28-30 Gig download to be completed in what will be under 3 days for what will only be 2-3 days of play time.
the uk has average download speeds of the 6 Gig so I think a lot will be struggling, me included.
I think you are right, I'm pretty sure it was a 28 GB download. This one is actually about 22 on my disk right now.

it will be my belief that the downloading will start on monday possibly tuesday just by going by what has happened during my experience in the beta so far they usually give 3 days for download. also since so many will be downloading they may give extra time.
Say you got into one of these beta weekends and downloaded the client. Can you patch the beta client to release client for the early access or would you have to download an entirely new client come early access?
30GB??? how huge are their game world or are they just bad at making games. I swear they could make those 30GB into 12.
Exactly what i wrote on their forums.
If they dont allow preload as soon as possible - 30 gig downloaded by 1 million people will melt their servers.
And all we will get from open beta will be open beta of the downloader.
The debugger adds alot to the filesize, theres lots of things running in the background of a beta client.
Voice overs and cut scenes take up a big share of that 30gb.
from what they are saying you will have to download a new client come early access release
Now i haven't done an update since last sunday when the last beta weekend was but here are my specs for the folder i put sw:tor in.
File Folder
C:Program Files
19.8 GB (21,356,665,979 bytes)
19.8 GB (21,355,601,920 bytes)
So not sure if i'm missing something or they reduced the size. Still very large for a game, but not nearly the 28GB previously stated, unless i'm missing something new that adds about 8 gigs.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
I am surprised we are getting the full game for beta, realistically if there are only 3 days of beta, surely there will be a limit as to high you can level in that time?
Limitation might just be a server setting. All the files could still be on the hard-drive and you might have some extra file in there like data-collection and testing tools that in full release would not be installed.
realistically most normal people will get to 15-17 in 3 days people like me who play all day and night will get to 25-27 maybe some who playe dthe beta before skipping dialogs might get to 30

FAQ: That client, when you have it, should be able to be patched to the #SWTOR live client (ie, no re-download). No guarantees tho'.
Its a big ass voice file. The game is actually not that big.
Probably not. Too much sound. By definition, loads of full voice is going to tend to toward drive space hog.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
I'm worried as hell for the download as well.
I live in Costa Rica.
Here, internet speed is stupid.
My download rate is 174kbps.
Do I have any chance of getting the full client downloaded before the freaking beta weekened actually finishes?
No they could not....
I tell you why, 70% of the size of the client is the audio part... yes its full audio and every f*** npc talks to you.
Maybe you can hire at bioware and show them how to make compact audio files if you are such a smart ass !
It was a 20gig download with patches for me Last weekend.

Its about 30 gigs. However they give you a few days to download the client. In October when I was in beta, they opened the client up for download the Wed. before the friday of beta started. That should give plenty of time to download the client if your provider hasnt put those stupid caps on your account.
I had a short (under a minute download) and then 20 gigs of download when the patcher ran. The good thing about it though it that if you've already downloaded it, you don't have to do it again and if you buy the game, the beta client should patch to the release client with minimal downloading.
I've heard rumors of download caps with some of our service providers around here too...kind of worries me. They've found something else to arbitrarily limit so they can make more money.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
From what I've seen, the game looks very big.
