Trying to find a new MMORPG for wife and I.

WhipkickinWhipkickin Member UncommonPosts: 8

Hello friends at www.mmorpg.com

This is my first post, and yes, the title is quite accurate..it has been awhile since we really wanted to "Get into a MMORPG"

A game we were playing was Darkfall Online, and/or RIFT and/or WoW..

Just got burnt out after awhile, is there any good mmo's out there that are worth looking into at this time? I have just been screwing around on Ultima Online right now..waiting for a game to pop out so I can take a look..

Not really into those "Korean" games, such as Perfect World, etc etc...or Runes of Magic, screw that...

Whare are you guys playing right now? I am curious to know what people are playing and what the pros and cons are of the game you are spending all your hours on?

Thanks!

You could try Lord of the Rings. Also, Star Wars the Old Republic will be out next month and that could be fun for a couple.

Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

    Original Skyrim: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/109547

Is Lord of the Rings have a lot of end-game content? Like PvP or PvE?

Well there is another Korean game coming out,but not like those f2p games ,called ArcheAge.It wil lbe a bold advancement to Korean game design.

Gw2 offers the same old but it wil lhave wha tthey call events. These will be going on all over the place and you and you wife can just pop in,they are not organized events more so exactly like RIFTS.

It all depends on how you and your wife enjoy playing a game.More important how your wife enjoys it, w/o her you will probably be bored.

Everything is pretty much the same old you will see anywhere, that is why i mentioned AA becuase it is a little more focused on pvp but still has a massive world with PVE,basically lots of action everywhere and LIVE action not instances.

If yo uare just hopping around game to game, then maybe just play EQ2,it is free, you can't beat that. You can also run two accounts each, you could run a Tank Shadowknight and a Inquisitor, while she runs maybe a monk and a mage or a umm forget the bard type class but the bard and MAge.She doesn't even need to play the bard, just use it for the buffs,so have it on auto /follow.There ya go 4 accounts all for free :D.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

At the end of this month Lineage2 is going to free2play

personally i was waiting for that few years and finally my favorite mmo of all times coming back with a punch (largest content update + f2p transition)

Plenty of MMO's out there, depends on what your looking for, Darkfall and Rift are 2 different games to give anyone any ideas on what you want from a game, If your burn out on those 2 then your going to easily burn out on other stuff.  If you want to go where the crowds go then you have some choices of WoW, SWtOR (WoW clone with lightsabers)coming in Dec, LotrO though the pvp isnt much cop, GW2 coming sometime in 2012, and EQ2 is going F2P in Jan.  Use You Tube and look at the gameplay vids to make your own mind up.

If you can look beyond the lack of PVP or the fact that Vanguard has a PVP arena in the sky which you can fly to or get transported to. Vanguard is a PVE game,it did have FFA pvp servers but it really was build on a PVE format and really excells at it.

Even with the lack of updates in the last year or so Vanguard has vast amounts of content that you would not see in 2-3 years of playing. Also the devs have just started working on the game again and the population has been going up nice and steady.

Vanguard is a group game but it also excels at duoing with the right classes.

Things you can do in Vanguard.

Vanguard has three completely different spheres of play which are whole games by themselves.

    Adventuring http://wiki.silkyvenom.com/index.php?title=Category:Adventuring_Sphere&redirect=no

    Diplomacy http://wiki.silkyvenom.com/index.php/Diplomacy

    Crafting http://wiki.silkyvenom.com/index.php/Crafting

Vanguard has 15 classes that for me are the best in any MMO to date, easily on par with EQ1 http://wiki.silkyvenom.com/index.php/Category:Adventuring_Classes

Vanguard has the points attributes system that you see in Oblivion to build your class. http://vanguard.wikia.com/wiki/Attributes#Reallocating_Attribute_Points

    Vanguard has racial bonus.http://wiki.silkyvenom.com/index.php/Racial_Attribute_Bonuses

    Vanguard has 19 races http://wiki.silkyvenom.com/index.php/Category:Races

Vanguard has 16 starting area all with own quests systems http://vanguard.wikia.com/wiki/Racial_Starter_Towns

Vanguard has a totally open world with NO INSTANCES and vast dungeon outside and inside http://Vanguard has a totally open world with NO INSTANCES and vast dungeon outside and inside more have been added since this list.

Vanguard has housing in the open world where everything down to the paint carpet/bricks are player made. http://Vanguard has housing in the open world where everything down to the paint carpet/bricks are player made.

    Vanguard has ship building http://wiki.silkyvenom.com/index.php/Ship

    Vanguard has massive guildhalls https://help.station.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/17765

Vanguard has so many mounts that you really can't count them.

    Rented http://vanguard.wikia.com/wiki/Rented_Mounts

    Diplomacy mounts http://vanguard.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Diplomacy_Mounts

    Check out these pictures http://www.kayoss.net/vgmounts.htm

Vanguard also has a VAST world that is one of if not the biggest on the market today

I could go on and on but Vanguard is open and i really don't have to follow a certain path,no hand holding here folk. As a matter of fact a noob would be totally lost logging into Vangfuard the first time.

Vanguard is without question one away from being a true Sandbox MMO,it makes the likes of WOW/RIFT/SWTOR/GW2/EQ2 look likre kiddy games.

My suggestion would be Lotro or EQ2 if you want to test the games first before having to shell out any money.  Aion and Vanguard also have free trials, but IMO, both of those games are a step below Lotro and EQ2.  Aion is too Korean for your taste in all likelihood and Vanguard has a miniscule population and gameplay that isn't exactly exciting.  Lotro has great environments, graphics, and story but falls a bit short in endgame raiding content, although it's still solid in that respect.  EQ2 has meh graphics, but tons, and I mean tons, of content.  If you like an apocolypic sandbox kind of game, Fallen Earth is pretty solid, but has not raiding content.

Those are your freebies.  If you are okay with shelling out some money, check out SWTOR when it releases.  Those are the current games I'd suggest.  Next year, you'll also have GW2 and The Secret World coming out, which won't be standard themepark MMOs.  So between those three new releases, you can probably find something to suit your tastes.

I am currently on and off playing Guildwars. Great game for duo, but have it's limitations and are getting a bit old by now.

Waiting for GW2 and might buy TOR as well when it releases.

If you want to try something nice F2P, I recommend DDO, AoC and LOTRO in that order. All fun games with good graphics.

Lol,you talk some BS,lotro is one of the most boring railroad quest fed x games you can play, it really is that boring compared to Vanguard.

EQ2 is a bit better but it really is a box. As for the Vanguard population ,well it's no secret that it's lower than the two games you mentioned but it has a healthy population on the telon server.

LOTRO has great environments but the most pathetic looking characters you will see in any MMO. It has a great apperance tab system but that's where it stops i am afraid.

This population thing is a fast really.

If you are in a great guild and duo then a low population does not matter or are you one of these people who needs to have your GC constantly moving to have fun in a MMO.

    I would wait for GW2

    if not, here some solutions:

Lord of the Rings online has a very good storyline, also has a very different atmosphere, this game mainly consists of quests.

EVE online if you want to try something different

The new starwars game is allot like WoW, but in entirely different setting, which is pretty exciting.

Also another thing: korean games are for if you don't want to burn out

    Aion, great game

Maplestory is also very good, the game consists mainly for the search for mesos, very addicting. You can buy all items in this game and because u can scroll them to make them much better, which makes some items so expensive that only the richest of the rich can buy them.

Kal online for gameplay forever, it is out since 2004 and no one has reached max level yet and with 2 players u benefit most in this game.

I would suggest EQ2 if you want to duo it. Best MMORPG i have ever played hands down. It will keep you busy for an year or two easily with huge amount of content. I know a lot of women who absolutely love EQ2 because of housing and crafting options it provides to them.

I would pretty much agree with this.

I would actually recomend Aion  with 3.0 going in very soon and the launch of fresh rookie F2P servers (up to L45 I think). I think it is finally the game it should have launched as and the new servers are a great idea to group newbs/returners together to level while feeding new blood into the existing servers. It will be a great time to start the game and you get 45 levels of play to decide whether to buy or not.

That being said... GW is a great recomendation as well.

Me and the GF will be trying the new Lineage II servers as well... GoD looks like it will be a great relaunch for the game.

(I think people recomending GW2 or Arccheage (!!) to you are a bit off the mark here though... GW2 is at least 4 months off IMO while AA could take easily 18 months to get here in the West. Both great games for the future, but not a lot of use for someone LFG for now)

I'd wait for STWOR or GW2

  • cali59cali59 Member Posts: 1,634

Other people have mentioned Guild Wars.  I like the game a lot but it might not be a great fit for what you're looking for.  First off, It's technically not an MMO.  I think duoing in it is a actually a little awkward at times if you're trying to do side quests together, but the main missions should be no problem.  It does have PVP that people seem to enjoy very much, but It doesn't really have crafting.  Though it does have plenty of vanity armors and weapons you can get materials for vendors to make for you.  It doesn't have a subscription fee and it's a lot of content and quality considering that (its servers literally never go down).

That being said, when GW2 comes out (sometime next year) definitely check that out.  It's a true MMO, it has crafting and skill based PVP.  it's got a new PVE events system for enabling people to play together very easily even if they're different levels.  It will also be easy to do dungeons without needing specific classes so you can play whatever you want.

I wish I could help you for right now, I'm really just dabbling in a bunch of F2P games while I wait, nothing I'd feel strongly enough about to recommend.

nothing beats a fresh mmorpg at launch so wait till swtor comes out.

however might i recommend you try eq2x free trial which has no download as its streaming .its very good ,very friendly, matured community ,loads of content and decent graphics.

as a duo its also a perfect game.if you go for the eq2x free version then go guardian/templar and enjoy.if you like it then just upgrade your account to paying status.in a few weeks eq2x will merge with main eq2 servers and you can even transfer.

    perfect time.

i would stir clear of those screaming GW2 as  its way off and little is known from actual gamers about it.At least swtor has had its NDA lifted to read about.

Age of Conan has made vast improvements  I would try that. I know allot of couples ingame that enjoy it.
