PVP mmo...

ShazaaShazaa Member UncommonPosts: 5

Hi there :)

I speak for a small group of players (4/5) who have been playing together for years. We tried almost every p2p mmo when it came out,but nothing caught us for too long.

We're now playing skyrim/battlefield,and we wanted to get back on the MMO scene. We've always been pvp players,so that's what we want.

What i'm asking you  is : is there any important mmo (not including f2p) worth coming back mainly for a pvp focus ? The only one we're not considering is mortal,as we found it too boring :)

Thanks in advance -

Shazaa

If you playing BF3, you should be watching Planetside 2, its likely going to be FP2 though, I don't see the downside of that though.

    SKYeXile
    TRF - GM - GW2, PS2, WAR, AION, Rift, WoW, WOT....etc...
    Future Crew - High Council. Planetside 1 & 2.

Darkfall might be of interest to you, as it's a game in a similar vein as Mortal that is mainly focused on full-loot PVP. From what I hear, the grind required to become pvp viable isn't really long compared to what it once was, and you have the ability to progress skills while offline. A current DF player might be able to tell you more about it.

These next two are not MMOs by any stretch of the imagination (and they are both free to play), but MOBA games like League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth deserve a mention. They're pretty much pure PVP games that have relatively high skill caps, and are competitive on upper levels. The best thing is that it works perfeclty for your small group - the main matchups are 5v5. Teamplay is essential in both games and with a trusted group of friends, it can be quite enjoyable. I highly recommend you check them out, even if the 'f2p' tag might scare you a little - they're not as 'pay to win' as you might think.

First you need a time machine.

then go back to around 1999-2000 and try UO or AC for great pvp.

other than that, try Darkfall i heard its decent for pvp personally i didnt like it.

We were in DF beta and we played it for some months after the release... What we didn't like was the infinite afk macro/grind needed to be really competitive. Now i've heard of the meditation system, and of the somewhat faster skill gains. . . Any of you know about DF population? I mean,is there still someone else other than the uber strong veteran who will oneshott us?

Lineage 2 is free now.  Try that.  Probably one of the best pvp games out there.

Lots have changed since beta. They now have housing, villages, seatowers, dungeons revamped, much better mob AI, and the XP gains are six times more than when you played and thats not including meditation.

It seems like a good portion of people resubbed about a week ago. It was like a reunion in many ways. Its slow enough that you can PVE safely which would help out starting characters and there will always be places to find PVP as long as you know where to go but sometimes its suicide. Basically a new player can compete right away but they have to spend more time between fights because they are wayyy more gear dependent. Mage vets dont have to worry about gearbags as much because they can kill armored while wearing only robes. Thats basically how the game feels now it seems like. Its pretty fair but noobs have to spend more time grinding for gear (which is probably a good thing because if you just focus on that it doesn't seem like there is as much of a grind since skills go up as you put together gear bags). If you want to reach I am a vet who can kick arss while wearing a robe status its a grind to get there but if you are lazy like me you never have to grind and can just spend more time making ready bags instead.

The game is much harder for me now because of the less grind and many other changes that favors group PVP. If you play with five friends than unlike before you guys will be taking down solo vets as soon as you learn how to fight. Remember when one person would roll a dozen people easily in beta? Well that doesn't happen at all anymore.

Do a daily quest everyday at a random dungeon with your friends and in 1 month you guys may have close to 400 hp. Thats on average one hour a day and really not much of a grind compared to before. Pick your favorite spells or whatever and raise those to 75 (which probably takes 6 hours?) then stop grinding and just make ready bags for having fun. They have a free-trial now but NPC cities are pretty dead as most people live in clan alliance cities so finding PVP might be tough as first.

I think Darkfall (even with the current pop) is overall currently the best MMORPG game and would probably say that Guildwars has the best instant-action MMORPG PVP. Warhammer would have the best free-trial (but not worth subbing to imo). AoC has the coolest graphics and animations but the PVP is imbalanced and the open-world PVP is more like gank squads camping the only entrance/exit so its pretty lame. The best F2P PVP would probably be LoL. Best sci-fi sandbox PVP would be EVE. The rest of the MMORPGs are just too old or not worth mentioning imo as a PVPer.
