heros!

Got bored and an idea got to my head after watching troy.

In the oldie days they did have heroes and even in real life old times there have been occasions the hero/leader got slain and the army ran off or gave up.

Now we are having massive battles in pvp in mmorpg(shadowbane,DAoC,WoW,SWG etc).

Could we not make the hardcores in the game have an objective like becoming a renowned hero for their pvp achievements rather then get some skills/loot that benefits them only.

Say when they land in a battle they can aspire(aka add buffs such as health) to a radius of so and so meters.

This will make them wanted in battles, add colour to the game and of course make them a top target for the opposite side.

Of course it be something very hard to achieve and say you get slain in battle ,stand too far in the back or refuse to pvp for a while you will lose the "hero" status

I think it's a nice idea, but this would be better with adding free pvp mode (e.g. 10 attacking 1), so that their advantages can't be exploit, and if many heroes get together, the radius don't raise much, or lots of heroes could get together and attack the other, being a for of concentrated and unfair power.

Probably have a maximum buff cap.So that if 10 heroes appear or 50 it would not matter as the cap would be reached.

Key would probably to make it pretty hard to become one and having fame (aka number of large battles he comes to) matter.

Be fun to see it in play though.

the only problem i see with it is that, contrary to real life, Heroes can't hide themselves in the melee or get aided by their companions around. So they will be target. Everybody will target and shoot them on sight. Causing a very messy Hero death every time.

    Have a nice day.

    Very intresting idea!

SWG has a form of this with the Squad Leader  profession. If players get a player who is a Squad Leader into their group, they recieve special extra group bonuses. Diablo II  also has a form of this. If players group with a Barbarian, they have a chance to get special group bonues (extra health, and other stats for everyone in the group - from the Barbarian!)

Infantry also has a form of this. I think the proffesion name is also squad leader in this game. When he is in your army, he can teleport anyone in your army. This gives a serious edge to the group of players who have one. They can instantly sneak into an enemy base, steal vehicles, sabatoge, or kill, then instantly sneak out.
