I want to know what people think we are going to see for retention rates in one year. I'm seeing a lot of talk about this in all the posts. What kind of future do you think SWTOR has?
Yes, I realize we have no way of knowing this in advance and there will be no way to know until it happens.
*ducks* Alright! Who threw that?!

33% imo
With James Ohlen working on SWTOR.. i expect it to be above 100%
33% is my guess. And it is, after all, just a guess. The thing that keeps me from buying the game is story. I like a good story but not to the extent Bioware does them. Single player story keeps ones interest I think but that much story in an MMO would burn me out fast.
Really? This game sucks and Im not having fun? Im going to unsub right now. Thanks for the tip.
50% is my guess, but considering the huuugggeee amount of preorders, that will still be a massive success
Cluck Cluck, Gibber Gibber, My Old Mans A Mushroom
not me the amount of story tor has is the reason it will retain alot of players.
I went with 75%, but that's a conservative figure based on the timeline.
I am thinking 50% which seems to be the normal trend in MMO's. Still debating on picking this title up as I do not want Origin on my system.
"Onward to adventure".
So there ya go see ya at launch buddy

It wont keep me for more than a month. But no mmorpg will keep me.
Clearly I can't disagree more with this.
Thats a shame. The bad thing with TOR is, it isn't built on good foundations for an MMO.
No idea but 100%, some people have high expectations, If I was to guess then I'd expect it to keep around 20% I dont think it will keep non SW fans.
It doesn't appeal solely to SW fans. It will appeal even more strongly to BioWare fans, which is not a small group. It will also appeal to a very large portion of the themepark MMO audience. Sandboxers, or people who think WoW is the only MMO which deserves to exist, probably not. Just like any other game, retention will drop over time, but a substantial majority of people who have tested the game appear to have positive impressions, so if that holds true after they have to start paying, expect the retention rate to be pretty high for at least the first six months.

There's no way to know how so many former WoWers or general Star Wars fans will react to the very high use of VO/cutscenes, those of us who are fans of bioware know how to play such games, but we are dealing with well over a million players, the percentages won't be known till long after the smoke clears.
Prior to the NDA drop I would have said there was a good chance for very very high retention, due to there being far more content out the gate than most of the mmos launched in the last 4-6 yrs, but it seems there is more overlap of missions than promoted, and if ACs can be swapped over, then there will be less reason to re-roll. (for those like me that don't enjoy endgame).
Still, a new mmo era is dawning, (or at least event), I couldn't be more interested in what follows.
What do you mean by that?
James Ohlen as lead designer for Swtor or the 100% retention rate?
You don't need Origin for anything, if you buy the disk it installs by itself and does not require Origin to run. Origin isnt Steam.

Hehe
The following statement is false
The previous statement is true
No clue here. I'd like to see about 60:40 retention:churn, but that's a pretty ideal rate.
So yeah, that'd be as rampant as my speculation would get.
i voted 75%...I wanted to add that Gabe Amatangelo did a really good job on Battlegrounds and Flashpoints.
Long term I see it being larger in a few years than at launch. Honestly it depends on how well MoP does. But, I think people new to MMO's will pick SWTOR over WoW. And, I also think it will get some the none mmo players that play other bioware games.
I do think there will be a big dip about 6 months into it though.
I have no idea, but I suspect it will stay healthy for a long time to come. BioWare isn't some flash in the pan developer like many MMO development houses (Turbine, SOE, Funcom) with no proven track record outside of one or two popular titles. They are an estemed development house with a long track record of quality products. How well that translates to the MMO scene is yet to be determined as is the general publics' ability to stomach yet another MMORPG modeled after WoW even if this is, in my opinion, better than even WoW itself.
If Rift is still healthy and looking to remain so for quite some time, I think all signs point to SW:TOR being a major success given its more famous development house, IP, and hype level.
I went with 75% but that's dependent on what Bio-ware does with the game.
