I felt the same way as them in the beginning but after awhile (imo) Guildwars gets very very boring.

    Ups

Unlimited PvP (Player Versus Player) One can just start out with a PvP only char and get used to the fighting sysem or just have fun pvpin

Great storyline. Guildwars has one of the best storylines i have seen within a game.

very nice graphics! Guildwars graphics are very attractive.

No one can KS (Kill steal) Your mobs when xpin because you are in a your own world (besides the towns, outposts, and cities)

Pick your favortie Primary class and be able to unlimtedly change secondary at end of game.

    Downs

Once you ascend and your character is level 20 all there is to do is  PvP.

I dont particuarly care for the world how it is created "just for you or your party"

These are the main reasons why the game doesnt appeal to me anymore. Im more of a Raiding kind of guy!

i dont think that any mmorpg that cost's money is worth the while, i think that they should add a free section of the game. at least make it a little bit cheaper in my oppinion. right now they are chargeing fifty buck for it.

Buy it if the following are acceptable or desired by you:

Totally instanced game-world, except in cities. You will never run across anyone else in the "wilderness" since it is instanced specifically to you -- so anyone who, like me, played EQ and liked playing the roaming Shaman who heals/buffs/helps folks along the way... can't, 'cause there won't be anyone else 'along the way'.

Zero end-game except PvP in the arena. Enjoy.
A game where lower-level characters can wear higher-level armor, and thereby be buried in the cities with "Uber" and "l33t"-speak.
A PvP-arena that will auto-level you to level 20 (the max) so you can "get right into it". So if you spend time levelling your character, developing your character, the little punk who doesn't bother and goes right in -- will be auto-levelled to 20 anyway, despite having put no time in.

Lack of 3d environment -- if you're out in the wilderness, and you see let's say a cave twenty feet in front of you, but there's a 1-degree incline in the ground between you and there, chances are you will be arbitrarily unable to "climb" that oh-so-impressive 1-degree incline. I have no idea what genuis thought that folks couldn't "scale" such "steep" (yes, that's sarcasm) inclines, or step over fallen logs, etc. But in GW, that's the story. Enjoy. I hated it when solo-play RPGs had arbitrary, idiotic, counter-intuitive environments like this, and it's worse in an MMORPG.

There is no level requirement on armor, there is ArmorLevel which states how much protection it offers. You do not "auto-level" a character, the pvp character is always level 20 & confined to the arenas. Also premade pvp characters only have some skills to them (& those you have unlocked yourself), so you must play PvE & unlock skills & items for PvP play.

Yes you can pvp & have fun "despite having put no time in", but some people whine about having to "grind" PvE for skills. So the end result is people whine regardless how PvP is set-up. End-content is Tombs, thats where the "real" pvp is. PvE isnt all that great once you figure it out, its like most mmorpg:s out there but (GW) has much fewer maps.

Also level & items do not make you win without doing anything, its how you use the teams skills.
And as always the general chat is meaningless because of other people, switch it off when in PvP.
